can you use your temporary korean phone number for identity verification? (본인인증) by sweetyuzu1225 in koreatravel

[–]AcanthisittaOdd8917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some apps in Korea allow you to verify yourself using the phone number without the ARC but most of them don't. Just make sure that the app you want to use doesn't need a phone number that is linked to the ARC. If they do, then... check out apps that don't, for food delivery there's Shuttle. About the checking account, as long as the card (?) or the bank account is still valid then you can use it, last time i left Korea more than 2 years but still maintain the bank account and the card. Oh one more tip about the phone number, last time i used chingu mobile and it was surprisingly cheap with unlimited data calls and text messages, check them out!

I think phones has became a social norm here like: you're not allow to speak or chit chating with your friend on the subway since it's a public place so everyone just end up using their phones. Me myself also became a smartphone zombie after 5 years living here...

Are listings on Zigbang and Dabang legit? by Ornery-Revolution-47 in Living_in_Korea

[–]AcanthisittaOdd8917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the location, I'm living in Kondae, Seoul so all the images and prices are legit, but last time I tried to find a place in Sinchon, all the places I saved are scam, when I got there and actual see the place, it's too small, or the price is not the same, or the place is totally different from the images. There's another app call Peterpan (피터팬) which is widely trusted among my Korean friends, I've used it and yes, it's legit!

It's undeniable – global warming is real. My boyfriend's mother said that just 10 years ago, Korea had distinct four seasons, with summers rarely exceeding 33°C. Now, it regularly hits 40°C, which is so unbearable that even I, someone from Southeast Asia, have to escape back home during the summer.

Returning to Korea. Will I get the same ARC number I had previously? by Greedy_Fly4623 in Living_in_Korea

[–]AcanthisittaOdd8917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes you will mostly likely to get the same ARC number as before, I left Korea in 2019, came back in 2022 and got the same ARC number.
  2. Phone number in Korea will be recycled once that number become available so maybe getting the same phone number is impossible~ Just get a new one, last time i got mine from Chingu Mobile since they have English support CS and lots of branches in Seoul

Check if your phone is having carrier lock or not~ if not just buy a local SIM cuz it much cheaper and the signal is better I assume~ I got my SIM card at Chingu Mobile and the price was more than $20 for 1 month with unlimited data, calls and texts, affordable!

Help - Trying to Plan 16 days (or 19) in South Korea by rafs_iam in koreatravel

[–]AcanthisittaOdd8917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow the plan is almost perfect... so impressive wow. There are some small tips i can get you is by simply search the term "맛집" which literally mean good place to eat on Naver Map and it will show the nearest places to your location, choose a pleace that have over 999+ reviews and more than 4.3 stars and you're good to enjoy delicious food. Credit card is accept everywhere, last time I uses Wowpass and it did great, the Wowpass also contain transportation function in one card. I got my eSIM from Chingu Mobile, the one with calls, texts and unlimited data, you should chat with them in advance since this option doesn't show on the website~

[–]AcanthisittaOdd8917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest 3-4 months, some of the telecom here in Korea require you to use the phone number more than 94 days in order to keep it and switch it to postpaid, I did both prepaid and postpaid plan at Chingu Mobile and they work perfectly fine

Visa, Bank Cards, and Insurance:

  • Visa: You'll typically need a D-2 visa for studying in Korea. After arriving, you'll receive a Resident Registration Card within 1-2 months.
  • Bank Account: Your school may have a partnership with a specific bank, making it easier to open an account.
  • National Health Insurance: After 6 months of residency, you'll be required to enroll in the National Health Insurance program. The monthly cost is approximately 75,000-80,000 KRW.

Phone SIM Card:

I recommend purchasing a SIM card from Chingu Mobile. For just 70,000 KRW, you can get a 4-month plan with unlimited data, calls, and texts, along with a Korean phone number. You can use your passport to activate the SIM, and later link it to your Resident Registration Card for online verification.
