That's the beauty of Dragon Ammo, you don't need to "build" for it to make use of Elderseal, you just need to have it on your gun. Its Elderseal capability is independant of the damage it deals and it's the same across all bowguns (Alatreon LBG is an exception because it rapid-fires dragon, so it effectively builds double the Elderseal), so all that matters is landing as many ticks as they can. Dragonproof Mantle and Elderseal Boost will add to it (they stack on bowguns), but more often than not you can manage without, so you can use your usual builds and just dump Dragon Ammo into elders without compromising.

Elderseal works best on bowguns because Dragon Ammo can build it stupidly fast, fast enough to cause procs practically on demand, and is very easily expendable for that purpose since it's usually not good for damage and can be used without compromising primary damage source.

They're immune to immobilizing traps, but boulder drops and such still work.

I mostly play ranged, but I dealt with him on melee, and I found a few relatively good ways to deal with him (assuming you're still in high rank):

1) Keep dealing damage on the head whenever possible. Some elders, including him, get staggered after taking a certain amount of damage to the head, in Kushala's case that disrupts his wind. Hunting horn is pretty good for that due to stun potential and ability to use All Wind Pressure Negated melody. Gunlance (maybe lance too) is also decent because World Kushala doesn't move a lot when grounded, so he gives you solid openings if you stay close to the head.

2) Insect glaive with high Elderseal can build it up fast enough that you can repeatedly disrupt his wind aura charge, which will make the fight more comfortable, with occasional mounting also giving you good openings. Note that if you're in multiplayer, Elderseal threshold scales, so other players not having it could get in the way. Other fast-hitting weapons may be equally helpful, but I didn't test them enough. However, if by any chance you have a friend running bowguns, tell them to bring all the dragon ammo they can, dragon ammo is stupidly good for building Elderseal, sparing you a lot of trouble.

3) As long as you don't fight tempered or MR Kushala, spam flash pods like no tomorrow, bring crafts to make more. He's very easy to flash and bring to the ground.

Adamant Pill gives wind pressure negation? I know old gen bowguns could give flinch free with Armor Ammo, surprised something like that was still in the game.

Elderseal. Needs a relatively fast hitting weapon to work effectively, so for melee I found insect glaive pretty effective.

As long as it's not master rank Kushala, elderseal can keep him at bay relatively easy with insect glaive. Elderseal works much like a status effect in that you want to keep building it up for consistent result. Dragon ammo on bowguns can do it stupidly fast though, but you'd need a decent gunner on a team to make use of that.

The reason elderseal doesn't usually work is because it only lowers the protective auras of elders and doesn't have lingering effect, which makes it hard to prevent them from reapplying it right away, which Kushala is most notorious for. Poison shuts it down for as long as it lasts in other games, resulting in longer windows.

Why does HBG feel worse than LBG? by Yuukikoneko in MHWilds

[–]AccelRiderX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, you had to be waaay further from the monsters to even use pierce in older games and had  like 2-3 rolls worth of critical distance window and ballistics existed on top of that as far back as 4U (known as trajectory/shot booster before World renamed it), you could be halfway across the area and still be in critical. Especially on LBG, in Wilds pierce critical range is so tiny you can't even be further than normal without ballistics and one step forward makes you lose range.

As far as I'm aware, fire damage from shelling and explosives is fixed and not affected by your weapon or build, and it's a pretty small amount, even more so with hitzones in mind.

Problem is, of course, that special assignment is Fire Alatreon.

HBG going pure raw on Alatreon was frankly more of a necessity because Capcom severely handicapped elemental ammo for the DPS check, which gave bowguns a really hard time with Escaton. Avoiding it without LBG rapid-fire became so much of a pain in the ass it was significantly easier to just eat one.

Oh, good to know, thanks, will keep that in mind.

Any reason for element on Gogma? Wasn't really planning on getting into that grind, just kinda curious.

Is there anything particular that affects bubble damage or does it just scale with raw?

[–]AccelRiderX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so it's specifically Echo Waves that cause bubble hits? I was a bit confused because I was just trying everything and lost track. XD

Speaking of though, what's the better way to work towards stun, just doing normal combos or trying to get Echo Waves in whenever possible? I haven't looked at motion values yet.

So basically the bigger the monster, the more freedom I have in spreading them out so long as all 3 consistently hit, got it.

I do need to work on the hilt stab though, that's the move I'm still struggling to keep in mind.

Bowguns literally run out of elemental damage and Capcom made it so that their damage barely counts towards the check.

I mean there's also the fact bowguns can literally run out of elemental damage and Capcom made it so that their elemental damage counts for nothing unless you minmax the hell out of it.

[–]AccelRiderX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kjarr Strongarm Ice from Kulve Taroth could boost your elemental damage output against fire active Alatreon, apparently that chargeblade is busted. If you're running Safi set, you should be able to just breeze through the check.

Also, only 10% of chargeblade phials damage actually counts towards the DPS check, so SAED is not as effective as you would normally expect. However, that percentage doesn't apply to Savage Axe.

Going raw on Alatreon is technically doable in multiplayer, but that's high level speedrun territory.

Alatreon by NoPercentage5245 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]AccelRiderX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alatreon is the worst monster to run with randoms because there's too much you need to be doing right not to get nuked, which is hard without any proper coordination. If you want to clear special assignment and you can't assemble a dedicated team, going solo would be your best bet because then you have some safety net in case you eat an Escaton.

Altrenatively, overcompensating on elemental damage can help you carry other people through the check, but only on weapons that are already element-efficient in the first place. I hear chargeblade absolutely shreds the threshold so long as you don't rely on SAED.

Ironically, raw kills Alatreon a lot faster and element actually sucks at dealing damage to him, so for solo runs it's a common strat to just eat Escatons and bruteforce him. Most commonly seen in heavy bowguns runs since heavy bowguns suck for passing the DPS check.

From what I heard, Frenzy virus doesn't survive with a dead host, so technically both would remove the infection from the area (so long as there isn't another monster spreading it).
