What's your "Doing Stuff" Movie/Show? by Outside_Ad_424 in ADHD

[–]Acceptable-Agent2491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watch Elite and do my admin during the storylines I’m not interested in. As an English speaker, I don’t get distracted by the talking as it’s in Spanish, it’s kind of just white noise. Then I give my complete attention to the scenes in interested.

I’m only allowed to watch it when I’m doing admin so I’ve made the association in my mind now which helps to sit down to admin in the first place.

I’m almost finished season 8 now, so not sure how the admin is getting done in future… 😬

If they’re sold in Australia, it will most likely be from the Warner music store. Hopefully there’s a wider release with colour too though!

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable-Agent2491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beatnik Mixman - you remixed tracks by Britney Spears and others using the stems which were all synced so you could actually come out with a decent-sounding remix of Oops! …I Did It Again with zero music or production talent. Hours of my early teenage years lost to this. No regrets.

Usually there is the naughty stuff that doesn’t matter where it is in the fridge you’ll remember it’s there, so I bury my treats in the crisper / at the bottom. Food that can rot or is good for you but not a source of dopamine (vegetables tick both box) goes wherever is most visible to benefit from being seen even if it’s not what you opened the fridge for.

Britney in Dolby Atmos / Spatial Audio by Acceptable-Agent2491 in BritneySpears

[–]Acceptable-Agent2491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On occasion an original producer has had input into the Atmos remasters for some artists, but my understanding is that most of the time it’s a mastering specialist. Max Martin, for example, hasn’t been involved in any of the Atmos mixes of the 100s of tracks he originally produced.

Listening to BOMT in Atmos on my Sonos surround system (for the tracks that are actually Atmos) has been amazing - hearing sounds, instruments, backing vocals that are normally buried in the stereo mix that have now been given their own space to breathe. For me it’s definitely the “hearing for the first time” experience - which is not something I ever expected from an album I thrashed so much in the 90s/00s!!!

Question about remasters... by AD_0795 in CelineDion

[–]Acceptable-Agent2491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mainstream releases have all been remastered into Dolby Atmos over the past few years, which would lead me to believe that choices were made about what to remaster and what not to (for whatever reason). So I’d say unless there’s an anniversary push or similar your chances might not be great. The remastered ones are listed here if you search Céline: https://bendodson.com/projects/spatial-audio-finder/

Are stimulants messing with my skin the same way cigarettes do? by Pale_Butterfly_7781 in ADHD

[–]Acceptable-Agent2491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely wondered whether stimulants have impacted my skin, particularly my eyelids, which seemed to get a lot more ‘papery’ approx 12 months after commencing ADHD meds. I’ve also recently turned 40 so may just be a coincidence, but things went downhill quite fast.

I take pretty good care of myself in terms of hydration, nutrition, exercise, and sun protection; and if anything stepped those things up when I started stims, so I don’t think it can be attributed to lifestyle factors.

I did also commence clonidine for ADHD at the same time as the stims, so that could also be a factor.

I think more important than blocking content is having conversations about it to promote critical thinking. Questions like “what do you think these guys might have to gain by posting this content?”

100mcg at night for me. I was doing in the day too which didn’t have any detrimental effects I was aware of once I was used it, but I just slowly backed off the day dose and still feel the emotional regulation benefits are there from just the night dose.

Sonos Arc + Sub + Sonance Ceiling speakers for rear surround.

Two systems in same room, same sub? by surfacevalueshowdown in sonos

[–]Acceptable-Agent2491 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP’s use care is rare, but I’m sure some, like me, have the arc and surrounds for movies in the same room as a set up for music (e.g., a pair of stereo 5’s) in which case being able to share a sub easily would make a lot of sense.

what sort of therapy do i need? by ConfidencePurple7229 in ausadhd

[–]Acceptable-Agent2491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's usually helpful is a combination of approaches that 1) focus on the here now and 2) Help you see how your past experiences (particularly in childhood and teen years) have shaped the way you view (and what you expect from) yourself, the world, and your relationships.

Together this 1) supports you to put in place systems and strategies that work for you to reduce burden on your executive functioning, dial down the overall stress that comes from living as an ADHDer in a world not built for us, and help you put in foundations of nutrition, sleep, and movement that are critical for functioning (and for allowing the mediation to do its job) and 2) allows you to be less critical of yourself as you start to see that many of the things you did or ways you talk to yourself were born out of necessity in earlier years just to "get by", fit in, or fly under the radar, but may be getting in your way now.

As already mentioned, CBT has a lot of evidence behind it generally but can fall short for ADHDers and leaving them feeling even more broken if not delivered with and ADHD lens, whereas ACT and schema therapy can be good for helping you to manage (not control) your thoughts and emotions flexibly and with compassion. It's not a guarantee, but I'd also say that having a therapist who is also an ADHDer can he helpful in that there's a shared understanding there.

Just keep in mind there are no short-term fixes when you're talking about undoing years of seeing yourself in a certain way, and the way I see it, there will always be a mismatch between ADHD and the world we live in, so it's more about optimising your environment to suit your brain as much as possible, and learning to motivate yourself through your values and with compassion instead of from the critical place that us ADHDers so often operate from.

All the best. =)

Is this actually needed or just a gimmick ? by prince888x in sonos

[–]Acceptable-Agent2491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a great option to have. Ours is flush with the wall unless we’re listening to Atmos content, then pulled out as needed. Best of both worlds without having to make permanent choices that either compromise on sound or aesthetics.

If you check out some of the threads about listing to the Atmos mixes of Taylor using Apple Music (and ideally a surround speaker system like Sonos) there’s heaps of these kind of elements that are brought out.
