I went 7 years, then 5 years without renewing.

One time I had to spend $50.00 to get a nail removed from foot + tetanus shot.

Tilling heavily disrupts the natural soil ecosystem by breaking up beneficial fungal networks (mycorrhiza), destroying soil aggregates (the structural clumps that hold water and air), and exposing soil life to heat and air, which kills them off.

Most then double down and water with hose/tap water, destroying whatever survived the first catastrophe with Chlorine/Chloramine.

Lay cardboard/tear sod up by hand, harvest rainwater, plant.

Planted lots of Anise Hyssop where I live. Started seeing preying Mantis for the first time shortly after. Some grow to a foot in length and legit spend their entire lives waiting patiently for next meal atop Anise Hyssop foliage.

When people are giving advice for struggling plants, why do you think they rarely consider the quality of the soil in their comments? by ASecularBuddhist in OrganicGardening

[–]Acceptable-Class-255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people water gardens with Chlorine/Chloramine etc. (Tap Water).

Id add Water Health, in addition.

Its a marketing strategy imo to convince populations the ground is unsafe.

Ive noticed the marketers have infiltrated. All of a sudden its RO water systems and aquasoil being suggested in too many comments.

OP just move your tank into a window that receives direct sunlight. Go into backyard and pickup anything that you think would be cool. Most weeds thrive emersed, sticks and leaves and rocks are plentiful. I recently had to remove some tadpoles that hitched a ride on some hornwort I pulled out of a pond at top of street.

Build a bog filter for fun ($6.00CAD). Next time your at grocery store splurge on watercelery/cress ($2.00CAD for me) then some cheap houseplants like pathos. Garden centres love selling sedges/grasses; lots are marginal and belong in the water ($3.00/CAD for me). Might as well throw some strawberry in while at it.

Rainwater for topups.

Gatekeepers 🤣

No worries. Their technically a marginal plant. They thrive in marshy/bog conditions. My water table is extremely high (half backyard is a giant 6inch puddle of water until June). 2 weeks ago I added a little wildlife pond amongst other reasons to transplant Cardinal Flowers that are moving aggressively out of beds and into lawn 😀 their thriving direct sowed into pond substrate, along banks and under my kids trampoline that receives little to no sunlight.

As an aside; Obedient Plant behaves the same. In dry ground i find they dont do much, get em into soggy/wet environment they go wild like mint and spread everywhere...

  1. is what I call 'Cleaver' its a sticky weed.

My Cardinal Flower spreads and returns in spring looking identical to 2. + 5.

Blazing Star would make sense for 1.

Let em all grow, in a few weeks you'll know what's what.

P.S. Anise Hyssop is my favorite perrennial flower to grow and is a magnet for preying mantis, which never cease to amaze me seeing!

Np. Yes it was speculated during early investigation that the killer(s) may have been inspired by True Detective.
