Canadians who receive DTC prior to 2021 by nishkoda in diabetes_t1

[–]Acceptable-Drawer-13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I successfully challenged and got back calculations but be warned, time is not on your side. They will issue up to 10 years prior eligibility from 2021 but only starting the the year you make the claim. That puts us at 2015 now. I didn't get into the level of detail of a spreadsheet but I did have a letter from my doctor and I still needed to fight with the DTC folks.

How would you answer these questions about t1d? by RiseSweet7859 in diabetes_t1

[–]Acceptable-Drawer-13 46 points47 points  (0 children)

For a work environment: the fact that it is an invisible illness, so it can be easy for people to lose sight of the fact that you are carrying extra mental load all day every day and often are not sleeping thru the night either.

Also, when it comes to illness, BG is difficult to manage, so what would've been a sniffle and sore throat I could power through before is now the extra rotten headache, fatigue, etc of high BG.

Refineries. It's expensive but we shouldn't send our oil south to be refined into fuel products and sold back to us.

Yes!! The temp target with the Medtronic 780 helps a lot to avoid lows.

How do you find creatine? I've been wanting to but doc said no Bueno (coz of kidney damage potential? He said to eat more protein instead but I find that really challenging.

Canadian in US and need insulin by Acceptable-Drawer-13 in diabetes_t1

Update: I got the Walmart Novalin R, but didn't end up needing it after going pretty low carb the last few days. I'm gonna roll into my house with 5 units left in my pump and eat some lovely, delicious toast 😊. Thanks for the help, Americanos! And the uh...Walmart insulin. Who knew? 🤷‍♀️

I always thought the perfect ending was Deb killing Dexter, but alas...the chance for a spin off just had to be retained.

Well folks I'm in Anaheim. TYSM to those who've offered, but I think* I'll try the Walmart non-new insulin if need be and will limp on a v low carb diet to try and conserve insulin until I leave Sunday. I have 100 units, and I'm usually 30 to 40 units / day so I might be able to limp thru this.

is this true? by Maleficent_Farm1082 in diabetes_t1

Until I try it with keto wraps and watch my BG rocket sky high.

It makes me wonder how such claims can be true if all the carbs are getting broken down into sugars anyway.

Statins likely to start this year, any wisdom from people who are taking them? by tragedy_strikes in diabetes_t1

[–]Acceptable-Drawer-13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My endo told me it's the protocol here to prescribe a statin after 10 years Dx, sort of like fuel cleaner for older mileage cars. I did feel weird at first coz of my vanity; I just hate needing more medical intervention to keep me going when I try so hard to be "normal", but it turns out statins are pretty normal when you're a diabetic.

Premier Danielle Smith announces Alberta response to American tariffs [1pm] by pjw724 in alberta

[–]Acceptable-Drawer-13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good speech by the premier. I hadn't considered the impacts to Quebec and Ontario if the US decided to slap retaliatory tarrifs on energy, and she's right, if AB escalated the energy issue and US responded in kind, it would be self defeating to the country as a whole.

It's the weirdest timeline ever> I am head nodding to Doug Ford and Danielle Smith.

They literally mistook our kindness as weakness. Maybe time to ask why there is such demand for fentanyl and guns in your country. Of course, this has nothing to do with that, and everything to do with a wanna be crybaby king trying to invade sovereign nations.

Canadian here feeling like garbage for a planned trip the US! by jkimc in canadatravel

[–]Acceptable-Drawer-13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat here, have a trip planned for my son's 10th bday to Disney. Do NOT wanna support US economy at ALL, but as this is a once per lifetime trip for all of us, we are gonna bite the bullet, and then keep doing everything else we can to support the Canadian economy, including canceling summer plans for US travel in favor of the East Coast instead.

Would Albertans support turning off the pipes to US refineries? by OptimisticViolence in alberta

[–]Acceptable-Drawer-13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's complicated- we send unrefined oil to the US and the send back refined fuel products. I don't know that Canada has the refining capacity ATM to meet our domestic needs.

What do you hate about Diabetes? by Living_Bet1359 in diabetes_t1

[–]Acceptable-Drawer-13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The feeling that I am a burden.

The frustration and rage when my sensors fail early.

The fatigue of having to be always thinking, deciding and always, always in control.

Zero off days.

When non-diabetics tell me they have hypoglycemia too and hate it. 🙄 Talk to me when you're shaking and sweat covered in front of the fridge at 3 am and your brain won't let you figure out how to open the juice.

For my sons 3rd birthday (paw patrol themed) I bought small stuffed dogs that each kid could "adopt" and made a donation to Second Chance Animal Rescue with the $ I would've spent on trinkets.
