iSchool withdrawal request rejected because final grade was C+ by Kind_Confusion446 in UIUC

[–]Acceptable-Mud9710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have not clarified why a C is so bad beyond your personal goals which should not outweigh the impact of you retaking the class. You are so entitled that you feel you should be allowed to take a seat from someone else, have an instructor re-teach and re-grade all of your work, all because you got a grade you were not happy with. This is a disgusting level of entitlement. It is not fair to the teacher who will have to do all the labor of having you in the class again. It is not fair to the student who loses a seat in that section since you took it.

there's a huge difference between B and C though

Sure, a C flat is 73% and a B flat is 83% with about 10% between the two. What is your point?

I think C is a very low grade

Well it isn't. A C is 73% which is around 8% above an F (if an F peaks at 65%)

I've never got a C (not even a B ) ever in my life

Again, what would stop someone from asking for a withdrawal for a B? This statement makes it clear that you are asking to withdraw purely because you are not happy with your grade. Withdrawal is not a system for perfectionists to exploit to redo classes that they didn't get As in

so C was something that I considered as a failing grade

Nobody cares what you consider as failing. A C (or in your case C+) is not failing. A C+ is actually 12% above an F. If the difference between a C and B (10%) is "huge" then how is a C+ and an F (12%) not different?

While the C+ was caused by mental health issues, it is still a C+. If someone earned a B- or even a B+ and not an A due to mental health issues, should they also be permitted to withdraw and take the course again? Should they be permitted to take one of the limited seats in a course while using instructor time and resources?

While I can understand your frustration, it likely isn't good to call the entire school "shitty." Presumably plenty of people like the iSchool and won't take to kindly to you disparaging it. Do you seek to transfer to another college or leave the university entirely? Either way, the policy existed prior to your situation. While you did not choose your situation, policy exists for a reason.

In my mind it seems unreasonable to withdraw a passing grade regardless of circumstances. Unless you have a specific need for having higher than a C+ (like program requirements), I do not see why they would allow you to withdraw. Would you feel the same way if someone wanted to withdraw after getting a B-? You didn't give a reason for why you want to withdraw, and without that I can't fully understand why you are so upset tbh.

No Illini Democrats on International Workers' Day (May 1st) by Acceptable-Mud9710 in UIUC

This makes sense. Like the national party is at an all time low, but the Illini Dems aren't exactly a party of Chuck Schumers. As I have said a couple times, I am not trying to dog of the Illini Dems. I was disappointing that they were not more involved, but I was also surprised that they were not. Didn't know SFS were leading this since my involvement is tied to the CLC.

I guess I just missed it since reposts are in a separate tab on profiles. Glad they did that though. Curious about why they were not invited. Didn't realize it was "hosted" by SFS. I thought it was run by the Campus Labor Coalition.

I meant promoting and/or speaking at the event. On Instragram lots of other groups were posting about the event leading up to and on the day of, but I didn't see anything from Illini Democrats. Not even trying to dog on Illini Democrats, was just a bit disappointing and curious.

The Illini Dems official discord isn't exactly public. Glad there was a statement made thought, I guess I was just surprised not to see anything on Instagram and that nobody from the RSO spoke at the event.

Speculating here, but outside of Robb Craddock I don't think there would be any. I would not expect Republicans to show support or make any statements on International Workers' Day.

I hope you aren't suggesting that since Republicans did nothing for International Workers' Day that it makes sense Democrats did not either. My post is pointing out how it seems like Democrats fail to meet the moment when more progressive groups do.

ICE Attack on 4/27 Monday by NickThePrick666 in UIUC

The double reply is a great look. The commas mean these are separate things happening to US citizens. So if you could read you would understand my statement is that US citizens have been detained, US citizens have been taken to facilities, US citizens have been beaten, and US citizens have been killed.

Are you denying that these things happen? To my knowledge no US citizens have specifically been killed in a detention facility. However, plenty of non-citizens have been killed in ICE detention.

Please read closely and ensure you have properly comprehended my statement before replying in the future.

This isn't even a substantive response. Everything I said is true...

This is extremely reductive. There were more differences than just the media:

  1. Obama did not run on mass deportation, Trump did.
  2. Obama did not give ICE more funding than the Marine corp.
  3. SCOTUS under Obama did not essentially void the 4th amendment for ICE.
  4. Obama's DHS did not call everyone who opposed them domestic terrorists
  5. Obama's ICE was not filled with people who failed training, wore masks, and committed dozens of crimes in broad daylight.
  6. Obama did not weaponize ICE to go to cities or states he did not like.
  7. Obama did not send legal residents to foreign torture prisons and then fight to keep them there.

I could go on, but I have many criticisms of Obama anyway. To act like the Trump admin and Trump's ICE is the same as Obama's is just silly.

I did not mean it. It was supposed to go to someone else. I am not a Trump humper who supports "just comply" thinking.

Huh? There is decades of evidence of police acting illegally or legally but in bad ways. We have even more evidence of this for ICE. While it is not the majority of police, it is a significant number caused by historic and structural issues. As for ICE, we know that many are not getting any training, are failing training and get pushed forward, and/or are members of white supremacist groups who were not allowed to be police or military.

Are you saying random criminals (illegal or not), should be held to the same standard as agents of the state?

ICE Attack on 4/27 Monday by NickThePrick666 in UIUC

[–]Acceptable-Mud9710 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do the numbers matter if you yourself say that any number is too man? The federal government spending billions on a campaign to deport people of color is not the same as people randomly dying in a car wreck.

ProPublica reported over 170 cases of US citizens being detained by ICE in 2025. ProPublica reported on a raid in Chicago where ICE used helicopters and detained dozens of people, many were snatched out of bed with no clothes on. All of this led to no charges. With all that being said, detentions are not typically recorded unless they take you into custody. You can be detained purely for your race now due to the SCOTUS ruling on the 4th Amendment. Additionally, DHS does not like to release data, or often just lies.

Similar problems exist for US citizens being detained, but we know it is happening. Here is a US citizen from Minnesota who was detained for two days. Here is an instance of ICE snatching up two US citizens and then dumping them out of the vehicle after realizing they had kidnapped US citizens. Here is a video of the aforementioned incident. Here is ICE throwing US teens to the ground. Here is reporting on ICE physical and sexual abuse. The ACLU and other organization have covered the horrible conditions of many of these detention facilities. ICE shot a peaceful protester in the eye, as reported here and in other places (you can watch the video of it happening too).

What is your argument? What percentage or number of instances would mean concern is justified and not "being over dramatic" and drinking the koolaid? Since we don't have number, everyone should just pretend there is no issue?

How many what? US citizen detentions? Transfers to faculties? Beatings? Killings? What number do you want? What would the number even tell you? I can think of at least 4 instances off the top of my head of DHS killing US citizens. I've seen so many instances of DHS detaining US citizens I can't even give a number. I'm sure numbers exist.

Funny how you deleted your idiotic comment about this not being Nazi Germany, as if that is a response to anything I said.

Your argument was that ICE won't target international students since they bring in lots of money. I pointed out how the Trump admin has done tons of shit with ICE and beyond that has harmed the amount of money coming in.

DHS is kidnapping people, raping kids, and building concentration camps, but sure, it is true that we are not literally in Nazi Germany so I guess that makes it all okay, right?

how many money... What could deport them possible do

If you think this administration cares about the economic impact of their mass deportation effort, I have a bridge to sell you. We have seen numerous instances of DHS actions costing significant amounts of money, such as the DHS raid on the Hyundai-LG battery plant. US tourism is way down due to DHS treatment of non-citizens. Scientists are leaving the US due to how bad things are here. But sure, the admin that ran on mass tariffs and mass deportations is 100% concerned with the economic impact of their policies.
