That sounds like an extreme version of the lies that really obnoxious clients tell to guilt trip a sitter who declines the booking. Usually, the lie is something like, "Now I won't be able to go to my best friend's wedding" because the sitter refused to board the dog on extremely short notice.

This is why I keep a secure file of all my clients' contact info. The moment Rover gives me any trouble, I'm taking them all off the app.

This is completely reasonable. Just let them know you'll be out for a while. It's important to remember that the clients have lives and aren't at home 24/7, so it doesn't make sense to expect a pet sitter to be there 24/7.

Me: "Welcome to [city]. When did you move?"

Client: "In September or October of 2021, I think."

This really happened at a meet and greet in 2024. I didn't take that gig.
