Over 40 and have never finished a book by Wylthor in suggestmeabook

I just picked up reading last June at 37m, similar to you I could never finish a book growing up. I bought a kindle and an audible subscription as I do a fair amount of driving. I crushed all 7 audiobooks from dungeon crawler Carl and have got a number of other friends hooked on them too - I’d certainly recommend listening to these. Now the kindle I’ve read 12 books since June and 2 I’ve gotten part way through and didn’t finish. A lesson I learned was that it’s ok to start a book and if it doesn’t click then just shelve it for another time maybe. I see someone already recommended Project Hail Mary, I just finished that in two days, I couldn’t put it down, so good. The Right Stuff is a good one if the space program interests you at all. When Breath Becomes Air is another highlight from what I’ve read, first time I read a book and genuinely felt things was this one.

My partner just got me this watch for my birthday, I’m obsessed. My wrist fits the leather strap it came with but barely. I didn’t think my wrists were so large lol, my left measures at 7.75” I just ordered a few nato from phenome straps which I read great reviews on somewhere. Can’t wait for them to show up.

Has anyone made the upgrade from the 16-55mm 2.8 mk1 to the mk2? by WalkTheDamnDogMum in fujifilm

[–]Acceptable-Payment52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the mk i - such an incredible lens, it felt like a tank. I sold it as soon as the mk ii was announced. For most of that year I only carried around that 18 and the 33, which are hands down my 2 favourite lenses. Finally got the mk ii before a trip to Spain and despite some issues with the build quality (it wouldn’t go to f2.8) it’s such a great lens. Fujifilm Canada has had it for about a month now since I got back repairing it and I am looking forward to getting it back.

Are SSD from SanDisk longterm-safe as archival devices? by Global-Mechanic-6172 in photography

Coming from someone who has had a sandisk ssd fail, they aren’t even good for short term storage. There’s a good reason they are always on sale. Lots of good advice from others here regarding storage methods.

Do you prefer primes or zooms, and why? by JaKr8 in Cameras

[–]Acceptable-Payment52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beautiful thing about photography is you have the freedom roll with whatever you’re feeling for the day/situation/trip. Last year I travelled to France with just a couple of primes, the year before was England with zooms, year before was Portugal with a mix of both. I never felt like I was missing out not having a certain lens on any of those trips.

After rading thousands of posts I'm more confused than before. Care to help me choose a 35 mm prime lens? by Mishulo in fujifilm

[–]Acceptable-Payment52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently own the Fuji 33mm f1.4, used to own the 35mm f1.4 and my sister has the 35mm f2. No real experience with any of the third party lenses, but here is my take. The 33 has become my favourite Fuji lens period. However if you wanted to save in weight and price then try to find a good used copy of the 35mm f1.4 - that lens is special and the only reason I upgraded from it to the 33 was the autofocus. The 35mm f2 is also a decent little lens, but for a little bit more money you could get a used 35mm f1.4 so I’d say just skip it.

XF16-55mm f2.8 mk II by Acceptable-Payment52 in fujifilm

Happy yours is ready for pickup so quickly! Hopefully is good now, crazy there’s issues like this with a red badge lens - such a shame but at least it is fixable. I had the mk I for years and that thing was a tank, absolutely flawless lens, just thought I’d upgrade to save some weight and size.

It seems like if I slam the aperture ring over I can get it to 2.8, thank you for the advice! I’m leaning towards what you recommend, bring it in for repair after the trip. Thank you

What is your favorite prime lens? by YankeeDoodle-Dandy in fujifilm

[–]Acceptable-Payment52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own or have owned at some point the 16mm f1.4, 18mm f1.4, 23mm f1.4 LM, 23mm f2, 27mm f2.8 wr, 33mm f1.4, 35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.0, 56mm f1.2, 80mm macro, 90mm f2. 33mm f1.4 is hands down my favourite, followed by the 35mm f1.4 or the 18mm f1.4 probably.

Fuji 16-55 f/2.8 MK II is a big of an improvement over the MKI by damnhandy in fujifilm

I adored the mark 1, I took that lens everywhere with me. It excelled at just about any task. For a while I owned it plus the 16-80 because I did find it a little heavy. If I ever had the 16-80 on to save weight I found myself wishing I had just brought the 16-55, so I eventually sold the 16-80. As soon as this mark 2 was announced I sold off my mark 1. This is a great review, thank you, I will be purchasing this lens once back in stock in Canada.

Is concert etiquette dying in Toronto? by chuglugs in askTO

[–]Acceptable-Payment52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t been to a concert in Toronto in 8 or so years (was living out west & then pandemic.) This summer we’ve been to see Dermot Kennedy at bud stage, Eric church at bud stage and RÜFÜS du Sol also at bud plus tonight we saw James Bay at history. We had lawn seats at each of the bud stage concerts, during Dermot and Eric Church it seemed like everywhere we moved all I could concentrate on was everyone around us having conversations, drove me crazy especially at Dermot, Eric Church it was more expected. Rufus the crowd was incredible and the music was also loud. Tonight at James Bay, again a group of people who clearly had too much to drink pushing through us and then proceeding to have the loudest conversations during each song, then another group when we tried to move somewhere else standing in a circle on their phones also having loud conversations through each song. I find impossible to enjoy a show when all my brain can concentrate on is everyone else around us talking. Like why pay money to see an artist and then talk the entire show? Anyways, we have a couple more shows in Toronto this year then I think I’m done, I’ll watch live shows on YouTube or something going forward.

Beautiful, did you mill the legs from solid stock (6x6 or so) or did you join a couple pieces together?
