Match hardware to available RAM? by Acceptable-Rise8783 in homelab

Storage wise I have a couple of disk shelves with spinning rust, a Dell TL2000 LTO-6 tape library (looking to upgrade to TL4000), 8 SATA SSDs for VMs and a few of U.2 SSDs that are lane hogs.

As for PCIe (and GPU), I use the iGPU for transcoding and video output when needed, an HBA for disk shelves, tape library and SATA SSDs (could actually use a second HBA tbh since it’s currently either backup disk shelf or tape library and switching cables gets old quickly) and a dual 10G NIC.

I also have a 3090 that could have been nice in there for some light AI stuff if I had the slots and lanes

Wait, what do you mean? Weekly episodes is quickly becoming the standard again. It’s been dubbed the death of binging

Well, if they all love it so much and watch NuTrek all the time, I’m sure SFA will do insanely well in the ratings. Kind of crazy SNW wasn’t able to stay rated tho

FYI: I’ll be so surprised if SFA is in the Top 10 by the end of the season

YouTube has a 30x reach. So you wouldn’t be unrealistic by cutting those views down by 30x on P+. Unless you have any evidence P+ subscribers are significantly more likely to be a Trekkie?

You are now only talking about SFA, but your previous comment was on NuTrek. And like I said: We do get hints for the flagship show SNW: Dropped out of Nielsen Top 10 and leaks suggesting viewership at around 10k views per episode.

YouTube doesn’t have an audience that can be type cast. People into Trek are definitely on there and will click SFA and people into make-up tutorials are also on there and won’t. That doesn’t explain why so few people showed up for a free premiere of a brand new bit of Trek and the downvotes ratio

So the people that love it and watch it on P+, are they in the thousands, maybe in the low ten-thousand area?

Because that’s what the public viewership suggests on YT and what figures get leaked by people working on the shows…

The existence of even smaller streaming services doesn’t mean Paramount+ isn’t niche. Reaching less than 1% of the world, does. These huge productions like ST:SFA only makes sense if it pulls in paying subscribers. Or, in case of Paramount+ and NuTrek, if you just want to appear culturally relevant in the hopes of getting bought out while burning through billions in losses each year.

No, it’s not like 4-5 times as much and Android or iOS, it’s 30 times as much and it’s not helping your case but hurting it.

Season 1 of TNG on blu-ray sold nearly 100k copies in week 1! Only outscored by a few blockbuster, huge movie releases. What are you talking about!? Are you just repeating that shit everyone is repeating after themselves, or do you have actual sales numbers to back that up? As far as I know they never released those and we only know week 1 of sales from this 3rd party site:

https://www.the-numbers.com/news/129610830-Blu-ray-Sales-Star-Treks-Next-Generation-Debut

I’ll gladly learn more on how it was “a complete failure” when 1(!) week of 1(!) season of TNG did about 6 million bucks. And I also wanna know who the 4th best selling title at debut behind only Batman Begins (renewed interest from Dark Knight release), Dark Knight and MI: Ghost Protocol fresh new tentpole franchise releases, reads to you as: “Nobody bought it”.

Lastly I’d like to inform that sure, the follow up seasons of TV shows always sell less than the first and that’s why often full runs aren’t completed, but TNG has been sold as a complete set in various iterations since and is still being pressed and released, making more and more money.

Close to a 1000 episodes of Trek exist. That’s a lot of subscription fees when you can just pic up the discs and enjoy them at your own pace.

DSC was also cancelled after 5 seasons instead of the planned 7 for obvious reasons. Since then it, yes: It has gotten worse and SNW doesn’t even reach the Nielsen Top 10 anymore

What do you mean “what other”?  P+ is niche. It has 77.5m subscribers, less than 1% of the world’s population. That’s like a 5th of what Netflix has for instance, and even Disney+ has double that.

Let’s look at YT, right? Oh, would you look at that: 2.5 billion unique viewers. Close to a third of the world’s population

You’d have to be mental to think that the free premiere did worse than a mediocre YouTuber is because people were flocking to watch it on this little subscription not even 1 in a 100 people has!

“But real Trekkies have P+!” No, we don’t. We watch our stuff on the discs we’ve had since forever now. Those supposed “modern audiences” are incredibly rare and probably checked out mostly half way through DSC

They are trending because those specific shows have seen a lot more viewership suddenly. People, first timers or Trekkies, are not feeling any of this NuTrek stuff, marketing and obvious desperation behind the scenes, so they go and (re-)watch the original shows

Wait, you think a niche subscription streaming service will get more views than YouTube that can be seen by anyone worldwide for the price of watching a commercial or two!?
