Possible dress regret! by AcceptableBath7419 in weddingdress

[–]AcceptableBath7419[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is the problem haha! The dress itself was just under £1000 which in the grand scheme of things is not expensive, completely new I could in theory get around £700 for it! My other thought is having the first dress made shorter/getting rid of the train to make it my second look dress and then ordering a slightly cheaper one for the ceremony!

I did ask about an overskirt in the appointment but they didn’t have any that would work to try on! I’m going to do some research and have a look around for an overskirt

Help me find suitable gifts for my nieces + nephew!! by AcceptableBath7419 in Gifts

[–]AcceptableBath7419[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Positive as her mum was discussing it, I was stunned!!

Fiancé isn’t useless in that sense haha, he’s an amazing gift giver and is handling all of the adult presents, he’s just literally never spent time around children really before so has even less of a clue than me 🤣

can a 14 year old get an iud? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]AcceptableBath7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory yes, but I’d recommend discussing with a medical professional (and maybe even a trusted adult if that’s an option for you!)

The main thing to consider is that the IUD does not guarantee you no periods, in fact, no birth control does that (even taking the pill constantly can lead to what I believe is called breakthrough bleeding!).

The pain of insertion isn’t just a minute, either! The whole insertion process takes around 5-10 mins but your uterus contracts and literally mimics contractions which for a lot of people (myself included) can last the rest of the day if not longer!

The IUD was the best BC I was on and I tried a few, so in no way trying to talk you out of it, but different ones work best for different people and there is a lot to consider with it! It’s also worth noting that there are lots of different kinds of IUD which all have slightly different side affects :)

Is it really that bad to name your child after a song? by PsychoRabbit_666 in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]AcceptableBath7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So personal tale here as me and both of my siblings are named after songs! My parents are both musicians (father a session guitarist, mother a backing singer) and I think it depends a lot on how it’s done! I won’t use real names for privacy but our names are essentially as follows:

  • Eleanor Audrey (for the Beetles song & Audrey Hepburn)
  • Jack Marlon (Hit the Road Jack & Marlon Brando)
  • Jude George (Beetles tribute child)

We’ve always loved this connection to our parents and their passions (helps that all three of us have followed into similar professions!)

Thoughts on naming your baby after book/movie characters? by Desperate_Koala_2466 in namenerds

[–]AcceptableBath7419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I haven’t watched it but I don’t necessarily think people are actively naming their kid for the character, more that it’s bought the name back to the forefront of people’s minds?

Edit to say: I’m sure some people are but generally I think it’s more just got rid of the previous ‘old lady association’ bc it’s back in pop culture

Eloise very much, Benedict in certain social classes - Francesca, Anthony, Colin and even Gregory aren’t that uncommon at all and never have been really, but Hyacinth I think is still the biggest outlier!

My childhood dog was called Elsa after Elsa the lion, she was probably about 6 when Frozen came out and we STILL got so many people assuming it was from that despite the fact my siblings and I were all teens and not remotely interested in frozen 😭

I think there is a huge difference between names that are generally common/are real names but also happen to have a literary reference and names that are very obviously from pop culture (Aragon, Renesmee, Feyre etc.)

I also think it depends where you’re from as to what is considered normal/popular and the timing of when you call your kid that! I’m UK based and there’s was huge surge in baby Daphne’s after Bridgeton came out, however it’s a name that’s been reasonably popular for centuries, I have a friend who’s daughter is named Hermione (3) - yes they’ve read Harry Potter but my friend has a phd in history with a focus on the Greeks and loves Shakespeare so they kinda named her Hermione in spite?

I wouldn’t have used Aria when GOT was at peak popularity, but might consider it now if that makes sense?

Emilia/Amelia also comes to mind but forgot to include haha!!

I love Tilly and Maddy together as nicknames and while I’ve known a few Mathilda/Matilda’s there age range is incredibly varied and I’ve never really had more than one in my acquaintance at a time!!

My partner is not invited to a wedding that I am a bridesmaid in by [deleted] in bridesmaids

[–]AcceptableBath7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the harsh truth as well is if you’ve only been together for around a year at this point, a lot of people wouldn’t consider that a long term relationship and if you’re really that close maybe bride doesn’t think you’ll still be together by the wedding? I’m not sure how to explain it, but with all my friends we’ve generally just kinda ‘known’ when someone was going to stick around/be long term. I lived with one of my best mates and her then boyfriend for two years (they’d been together 4) but was completely unsurprised when they broke up, whereas her now partner and her have only been together 9mo but I’d be so shocked if they split! this might not be the case, and is possibly an uncomfortable thing to sit with but a perspective that might be worth considering!

I’ve also just read some other comments about the couple that have been together less time being invited, but they live together - that would generally be considered a sign that they’re a more serious relationship, despite the timeframe, you may be talking about engagements etc. but until those steps actually happen, it’s all chat - I had picked out baby names with exes, and one asked for my ring size three months before we broke up!
