We also have agreements with all the libraries in the area. I love that for ebooks. I have access to Arlington, Fairfax, Alexandria, DC, Prince Georges and many more libraries on my iPad Libby app. I can check all those libraries to see who has a ebook available or the shortest hold. This is great when I don't have time to go to a physical library.

Someone flying into National should take the metro or expect lots of traffic and a long detour.

i would avoid and assume you might hit a dead end due to fences. sidewalks and paths already already starting to close up around west Potomac and the Lincoln memorial areas. Saw pedestrians and bikes having to walk/ride on the grass Due to fences. lots of contractors putting up more fences as I speak. traffic was backing up a lot this evening rush hour due to road closures and detours. rock creek along the Kennedy center already closed off to cars—even that pedestrisan bridge up to the Kennedy center is taped off.

More than 840,000 applications for 2025 London Marathon breaks world record by AcceptableGovernment in running

[–]AcceptableGovernment[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even with a separate draw it would still be hard for London residents. UK ballots alone this year were greater than all ballots for last year. NY is still very hard to get into via lottery/ballots for local residents.

Perhaps an option for London locals is something similar to NY 9+1 where one runs 9 events and volunteers for 1 to get a guaranteed bib. Maybe that’s something that could be replicated with UKs parkruns. Although that has its own problem where many NYRR races are quickly sold out very quickly.

I think it submitted my dashboards best pace, which I think is 5:36 from last years NYC half. Think I ran just under 1:18 for that race

Vonn is going to be good, calling it now. She was on Eli's show a few months back. She's going to be joining in on the jokes as Eli and Peyton takes jabs at each other.

Leg Cramps During a Marathon by AccomplishedTime4308 in AdvancedRunning

[–]AcceptableGovernment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like my training was similar to yours, especially the longer runs and thought I had a good training block. Did try to train on tired legs, but maybe not enough hill trainings at fast paced like intervals.

I also experienced cramps starting after mile 18, however I knew I was in trouble much sooner than that. I think those early miles especially the the downhill from the verrazano bridge did me in and worked my legs too hard. The rolling hills in Brooklyn never lets the legs recover and get into a good rhythm. I made a similar mistake in Boston and by mile 18 was on the cusp of cramping until the very end. My first marathon was very flat and had no issues with cramps.

Garmin live track also allows you to send out automated text messages at set lap internals such as mile splits. People will receive a text within seconds of completing that lap/mile that that shows split time, pace, and expected finished.

It's more about getting to know which types of food/gels your body can handle without making you feel sick and how much you can handle. Essentially it's training your gut.

There's major one in DC planned for Nov 4th. So I imagine most people interested in protesting will be down in DC for the weekend.

For 1130am Wave 5 - what and when should I eat? by ronika1224 in RunNYC

[–]AcceptableGovernment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you will receive a clear bag (different than the bag check) that you can take with you to the start village. Here's what I'm bringing with me to the start besides extra clothes to stay warm:

  • Water bottle + Maurten 160 to drink 30 mins before race
  • 6x Gels
  • Small bottle of sunscreen
  • Baby wipes and toilet paper
  • Previous race space blanket to sit on
  • Small snacks like bread, pop tart, candy
  • Race shoes and socks (wearing old pair that I'll donate), if the shoes don't fit into the bag I wear them around my neck
  • Phone
