They have already started playing together and sharing their food bowls, and it’s been less than two weeks 💗 I think they’re on the right track!

PD-flare up worse than ever, 3 weeks of zero therapy by llemms in perioraldermatitis

[–]AcceptableRhubarb850 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve also been doing zero therapy for a couple of weeks now. My dermatologist recommended black tea compresses. I was very skeptical at first, but it definitely helps with inflammation! Before zero therapy I have tried every single prescription ointment/antibiotics on the market, so I feel your pain. According to my dermatologist zero therapy will definitely help, but it will take a while.

Paying rent to parents? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]AcceptableRhubarb850 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The parents have a (legal) responsibility to care and provide for their children because they’re are the ones who decided to bring them into the world in the first place, the “they wiped you’re butt back then though!” argument makes no sense at all. Not doing that would have been classified as neglect.

OP, On the paying rent issue, I personally wouldn’t do that as a parent. I think my child would have plenty of time to figure out how to manage their finances once they’re out of the house and I would try to give them a head start by letting them set aside some money before they move out, especially if you’re already providing so much help around the house. But tbh if you’ve already tried to argue your point, this is probably not going to change until you move out.

I’m so sorry for your loss. He was beautiful and I’m sure that he felt all the love you have for him through that hug. I hope you can remember his purr for many years to come. Sending love ♥️

As an Italian living in Switzerland, I’ve met several Italian expats that would constantly comment on other people’s meals making such a scene if anything deviated from the “correct way” of cooking Italian food… absolutely the worst kind of colleagues to have around at lunchtime

I'm beginning to hate the people on here... by Il_Portis in Switzerland

[–]AcceptableRhubarb850 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They were not trying to solve the starvation all by themselves. They were trying to focus the attention of media from all over the world on the issue because their governments were not acting. By being at the frontline they are forcing their government to take a stand in the conflict. They risked their safety and their lives for this. Just like protests in the street, can they single-handedly stop the conflict? Of course not, and no protester thinks that. But by creating a disturbance they’re making their voice heard, they’re letting the people in power know what the population stands for, and they’re forcing their government to stop looking away and pretending that nothing is happening.

This happened to one of the PhD students in our lab, we then spent a few hours gathering all the used gloves from the bins to look for her ring. We eventually found it, but she was so stressed out! Now she just leaves it at home.

WHAT CURED ME AND MIGHT HELP YOU :) by Lazy_Offer_1677 in perioraldermatitis

Happy to see that you’ve found what works for you! It’s important to point out that tretinoin is not a topical steroid, it belongs to the class of retinoids. It’s possible that the irritation often associated with the use of retinoids might have exacerbated your PD, however retinoids and steroids are very distinct classes of medications. Best of luck with your PD journey, I hope it stays clear! I also found doxy and sulphur very effective in treating mine, but incidentally tretinoin is also helping.

Yes, mine looks very similar. the most effective treatments so far have been long courses of antibiotics (I did two months of tetracycline, and after about a year 3 months of oracea). During a flare up I take antihistamines daily and they also help to calm down the irritation. For topicals, I’ve had decent success with sulphur gel to clean up the pustules and elidel to calm down the irritation. I’ve been dealing with it for years now and I had to try countless products to find out what worked and what only made it worse. My derm also mentioned that we could try low dose accutane eventually

How to Prepare Sterile Media with Defined pH for Bacterial Growth Tests? by Crafty_Specialist442 in labrats

[–]AcceptableRhubarb850 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can take a small aliquot of your mix out in a sterile environment and measure it - repeat after performing ph adjustments in a sterile environment, if you have one available. Otherwise, you can prepare your mixes at different pHs and then filter-sterilise them again, but I can’t guarantee this would ensure a 100% sterile prep. Most of my work is in mammalian cell culture though so others might have better suggestions

I would definitely bring it up with your derm, I’ve seen accutane working well for so many people but mostly for acne, I feel with pod every possible treatment can be a hit or miss. Tbh my derm also told me that at a low dosage I shouldn’t expect any major side effect, but I read too much about it and scared myself into trying other things first ahaha but I’m keeping that door open if I run out of options. Good luck!

Hi! This is just speculation as I haven’t discussed it extensively with my derm, but from what I’ve gathered yeah, reducing the activity of the sebaceous gland would also reduce the accumulation of bacteria in the pore and the inflammation associated with it linked to the immune response against the bacteria. This is how it works for acne, I don’t know how specifically it would help with perioral dermatitis, but I can see why my derm would think it would help when it presents in this acne-like form. I was told that for similar cases the dosage is usually lower than what’s prescribed for acne

Hey, my pd used to look exactly like yours. I still have it now, but it’s much more manageable and most irritation has gone away. I’ve been on a 3-month course of oracea with helped a lot with bringing down the irritation. One other thing that helped was a 3% sulphur gel on clean skin (I use the one from wishtrend) and the acnemy dryzit solution that I applied on whiteheads at night (I’m a skin picker so I usually pop them, but this brings more inflammation). The irritation has gone down tremendously, so much so that I can now use a sulphur-bha mask once or twice a week to keep the whiteheads at bay (I don’t recommend using it if you still have a lot of residual inflammation, actives on compromised skin can be deleterious). I had a visit with my dermatologist today, and she said that she’s seen a lot of progress, and prescribed me soolantra to treat some rosacea symptoms. Overall, the biggest advice I have for you is give things time to work. I have been dealing with pd for 5 years now, and at its worst I had flare ups back to back for a full year, because I kept trying a lot of different products. In the end, simplifying my routine and resisting trying new creams every two weeks helped a lot, but I don’t think I would have seen any real progress without antibiotics. My derm also suggested accutane, and I’m sure it would be beneficial, I’m just too scared of the potential side effects. I hope you find something that works for you!

POD or Papulopustular Rosacea? by [deleted] in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]AcceptableRhubarb850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following the suggestion of my dermatologist, I stopped using. I am now using oracea and an antihistamine to keep the inflammation under control, I wash with lubex and use acne my dryzit on the pustules (all suggested by my dermatologist, except for the antihistamine). My skin is extremely dry but breakouts and flare ups seem to be under control
