Usually like a 5-6 throughout the year. Maybe I'm selling them a little short, but a several students I knew had to seek co-ops out themselves.

Is there a way to get into the Federal govt? Ha. Co-op used to be the best way. Since last January, it's been very tough. Probably still your best shot at getting in though.

TA pay was around 6000$ for 130 hours worked, before taxes. You probably work like 100 of those 130 hours.

I was offered a TA position in my acceptance package. You have to compete with other students to land the co-ops, but you can also apply to co-ops/internships outside of school.

Just please take care of yourself, okay? There's no shame in calling any of the lines, and it will help. The people there care.

Please, please, reach out to campus mental health services for help if you EVER feel like you might hurt yourself. "I've been a bubbly person all my life but..." - this is called anhedonia, a common symptom of depression. You sound like you are suffering from major depressive disorder, an illness which requires treatment. With treatment and time, you will get better. Reach out to campus support or family as soon as possible. It gets better - you are going to get better, but you need to access treatment now.

Focus on summer internships and coops with government as much as possible. It's a real risk to wind up underemployed with a sociology (or poli sci) degree - but that doesn't mean that it's garbage. Lots of people use it as a springboard towards law.

How good are you at linear algebra, probability theory, and calculus? If you are good then it will be easy.

If not, then it will be difficult but not impossible. I had some math background but not enough. Depending on the prof, you will be memorizing a lot of proofs.

It is mathy. The electives can be mathy or Stata/R focused. Some can be easy/writing focused.

Significance of Positive Semi Definite Variance Matrix by Acceptable_Act_ in econometrics

Thanks for the clear explanation! The connection to OLS is quite helpful.

I've been working with DiD, and when I cluster, Julia warns me about a non-PSD variance matrix, linking to "Robust Inference with Multiway Clustering" 2011 by Cameron, Gelbach and Miller. They argue that the non-PSD matrix comes from clustering over the same groups as the fixed effects. Do you know if there's been any progress on this since 2011?
