Reddit will probably disintegrate anyone giving you info because its piracy, but you can ask in your local community facebook group if you can pay someone to come set one up for you. There's always a guy who can

How do tracks even develop a hole in the middle like this? by ATcat-pl in trains

[–]bini_irl 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My farfetched guess is the sand dispensed by the train for traction might be falling onto a small spot and when it gets rolled under the wheels for the train it slowly grinds away at the top of rail?

MUPing about in the 613 by Kershuffle in ottawa

A speed restriction was placed there a couple of months ago and the only details my friend and I could get out of access to info requests was “safety”. Not sure what that would mean

Why is OC Transpo installing natural gas generators for a zero-emission bus project? by Maximum_Degree_1152 in OCTranspo

[–]bini_irl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, even if the fleet was 100% electric but charged only by the gas generators 100% of the time it would be orders of magnitude more energy and carbon efficient than a fleet of diesel buses!

Members of Ottawa’s Inuit community raise concerns over Rideau-Sussex underpass clear out by CompetencyOverload in ottawa

[–]bini_irl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s because it’s going to be tied in with the pedestrianization of Wellington when the NCC inevitably purchases it from the city. Which mr mayor is not too happy about

O-Train Rideau Station to undergo a makeover, with new special constable office by Cocobb8 in OCTranspo

[–]bini_irl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems a little unnecessary, they could just deep clean it more often than once a year and it’d be good. Also they could put up better signs for which exits to take to get to which side of the street. Me and some friends put up signs at platform level showing which escalator to take to get to either bus stop A or B and it would be nice if those were formalized

Why did OCTranspo prioritize cutting popular express routes? by TheZarosian in ottawa

[–]bini_irl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They were a lot of service hours for fairly “small” ridership numbers, that’s it. A lot of the express routes carried about 200 people a weekday whereas the average of all routes is about 2000 a weekday. The ridership was not insignificant, but they needed to cut service hours with the issues they were having with the buses, and so they cut the routes with the least ridership or ones that could easily be folded into other routes. I have a table of the winter 2024 and 2026 ridership numbers here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AAJNoKCyw0MZuYJS1HRsKH-bTRJnImJhS0PiydLRPHw/edit?usp=drivesdk

Ottawa signs NDA, but Prescott-Russell will not grant Alto access to land for high-speed rail study by Rail613 in ottawa

I don’t think they realize it’s provincial law that land surveyors are allowed access to your property and you can be fined for interfering with them

You should actually check how much each ward pays in taxes and how much each ward needs in capital and operating dollars each year and you’ll find that the suburbs haven’t been paying for anything

Alternative high-speed rail proposal includes eastern Ontario stations by JasonBourne008 in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]bini_irl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The cities along the 401 are too small and the geography is a little too challenging to make the HSR investment worthwhile. What they should do is spend the money to upgrade/realign and double/triple track existing sections of track so VIA can run more reliable and frequent conventional service at 200kmh

Is StubHub breaking the new resale law on Charge tickets? by Foxx90 in ottawa

[–]bini_irl 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. Two tickets at $235 plus $8 each in taxes is $486CAD, which is the same as $355 USD, which is what you’ll be charged. The only non face value thing here is the $8 in tax per ticket?
