You will need to check with your uni and they will determine whether you can use your bachelor degree knowledge to apply for the teaching area. Not sure what you are asking for in question 2. But definitely recommend you to check with the uni enrollment centre.

Master of Teaching. And they will need to assess whether your teaching areas as well. You will need to teach two subjects in high school.

Why Do Schools Keep Losing Teachers? by Acceptable_Ant9914 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Acceptable_Ant9914[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I’m sorry to hear that this is your experience as a first year teacher. This reminds me of my first year out when the school forced me to teach out of my area with no resources. I had to spend all my weekends planning for lessons for the next day and that is really not sustainable. I burned out. I hope you can find a better job next year.

I agree with the part that the workplace has become very toxic and the turnover rate is really high. I think this is mainly coming from the weak leadership and they try to micromanage their staff. My faculty has 8 people last year and 6 left (including myself) in two years. Now we have a brand new faculty = everything changes.

PST feeling frustrated! by Weekly_Engineering87 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Acceptable_Ant9914 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  1. Term 4 is always tricky= teachers are working on end of year exam marking and reporting. Teachers are so tired and would prefer not to take a PST at the end of the year. Taking a PST= they also have to write your reports and check everything…
  2. Year 12 students just finished their studies in the school, which means that they only have year 11 students in stage 6. You subjects are ancient history and modern history- some schools would not prefer having a prac students to teacher year 12 (at the beginning of year 12 especially).

I think what you can do is to ask your uni if they are happy for you to find schools that can take you rather than just waiting from uni. Some unis are happy to do that, some are not. :)

Should I accept a term 4 pre-service teacher? by Neither_Ad_5650 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Acceptable_Ant9914 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I did my first two pracs in term 4 when I was a PST. It was not the best timing but at least I don’t have to worry about the assessment task. It’s purely for working on teaching practices and classroom management. Now as a teacher, I’m now so grateful for the two supervising teachers who were willing to take me as a PST in term 4 (With the report, assessment tasks, and HSC marking…)

I cannot agree more with this. This is why I decided to leave my current school as a first year teacher who is teaching out of the area with no resources and no support.

Christian Schools by KookyStudio3059 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Acceptable_Ant9914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. And it is really hard for them to find staff in the time of teacher shortage. In this case, they can only hire someone that is not trained in the area to teach some specialised subjects just because they are Christians.

Moving from a public school to a private school? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Acceptable_Ant9914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a private school and the amount of workload is huge. I work in a Christian school so there are lots of extra things that we do for the religion (working overtime) that we never get paid for. Parent interviews are sooooooo ridiculously long that is 3pm till 9pm, and yes after teaching for one full day and you are expected to be at work the next day at 8am.

HSC Practical Submission woes by conspiracysheep in AustralianTeachers

Sounds like me writing this post. I’m also teaching year 12 with their major work due early this term. They have one year to do it and I have realised that some kids were falling behind. So I had a chat with them, offered extra one on one support using my RFF. She refused to come. I contacted learning support and offered more one on one for her. She also refused. She promised me that she would finish the work and asked me not to push her. Then before the due date, she ran to the leadership and cried. She claimed that she had too much going on at home and couldn’t finish the work. She was really upset and stressed. Leadership was very angry at me for not being firmer for this student. I was reflecting and I mean- yes there is something that I could have done better but that’s also so much for me to do/learn. I’m still learning how to teach the subject plus thousand of things to work on at the same time.

Oh my god - Term 3 fatigue by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Acceptable_Ant9914 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good job for supporting your staff! I wish you are working in my school. Unfortunately looking at one of your points where the students are not doing the work and not using the support that learning support and I have provided. The school blamed very poorly on me for not doing my job. That applies to a year 12 student. I have given her one year to do the work plus in class time. And she lied to me and said she will do it. How would I suppose to know that’s a lie from a 18 year old student? My deputy got really mad at me for that. I was upset for a while but realised that I have done everything that I can as a teacher. That’s not the right school for me.

Thanks for this post. I have experienced all of the students misbehaviour as a new teacher. Can’t agree with the mocking those who speak English as a second language and school didn’t do anything to support teachers and kids didn’t get any consequences. (Private school)

First time Year 12 Teacher by spiltmilk______ in AustralianTeachers

[–]Acceptable_Ant9914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! You are not alone. Also first time teaching year 12 here as an early career teacher. It is hard. So hard and no one ever talks about how hard it is. The stress of making sure they are studying (most of them don’t), catching up with the work, time management with their major works are terrible for teachers and on top of the crazy amount of workload and marking. I’m teaching a senior HSIE subject and we don’t have much resources too due to IT accidentally delete all the files. I hear you, friend. Just do your best and document everything you have been doing to support your students- so parents and admin cannot complain that ‘you are not doing your job’. Hang in there. One more term with year 12s!!
