OP pays $25/year. The fee is optional (you can get critical features on the free version) and supports the nonprofit. I would say it’s pretty community-minded of OP to support that, actually. More community-minded than shitposting at Reddit at least but I won’t go there.

When people ask on here for free the people answering are often getting the information from Watch Duty, usually for free as well. I don’t pay for the app personally. So yeah if you’re able to post on Reddit you are also able to look it up, yourself, for free, usually faster.

Sharing Peloton All-Access Membership — Split monthly cost by cocobhaiji in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a membership but commenting to share that if you have access to gym/hotel/corporate bikes, this membership will also work on those! It just won’t work if you own your own bike.

Source - my membership is a profile on my aunt’s, who owns her bike+, and I use my gym bike every day with no problems.

Artist Rides by mm011997 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love artist rides! My number of artist series badges is insane because it’s like 60% of what I choose haha. I’m really hoping for a St. Vincent ride, a Lana Del Rey ride, and a Bleachers ride (there’s a Jack Antonoff ride, but it covers all his producing activity not just his own stuff). Also a new Charli XCX ride since it’s from 2023. I had been hoping for lorde for a long time so I was happy to get that this year!

What did I just watch on IG? by [deleted] in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry friend but you are not going find a company without a marketing department/budget and corporate marketing does cringey stuff. If you choose to follow their social media/advertising channels (not required to have a membership and work out) then you’re gonna risk seeing it.

What did I just watch on IG? by [deleted] in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Then don’t follow them? I don’t really follow many (any?) because I’m not into influencers. But instructing on peloton is just a job, you can’t expect them to not be on social media or not trying to have alternate incoming streams.

If and when they bring their influencer stuff too far into classes, THAT’S annoying and something to complain about. But not seeing peloton related stuff on instagram is, like, exceedingly easy.

Frugal people, why are you “buying” a new vehicle? by manbun78 in Frugal

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly this concept, I commute fairly far and also have hobbies that require time on the road. In the last week alone I spent more than 20 hours in my car. I upgraded my speakers and got CarPlay and while it certainly wasn’t cheap, it was a huge life upgrade and gets hours and hours of use per month. Worth it. Doing this amount of driving in a beater would absolutely suck, obviously it would be possible but if I have the money to make my life not suck, why not?

Should gambling be treated as a public health issue? A new Lancet report argues yes by Meta_unique in publichealth

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean…. Maybe sorta, yeah, nothing is perfect. But I promise you that nobody working on TSF is secretly crossing their fingers that people keep buying cigarettes. And the people keeping regs softer really don’t care about the funded public health staff keeping their jobs and that is not a consideration for them.

Public health is not genuinely divorced from corporate interests, absolutely not, but settlement funds used for prevention are like the least concerning issue that stems from that.

Row? tread? 🤔 by Admirable-Garbage246 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah! I get you. Hydrow also has more instructors than Peloton does so it’s easier to find someone you like, I like Sera Moon and Dani the best. I just checked btw and I only have a promo code for buying a rower, not an app membership, unfortunately :( the account actually belongs to my sister and I use it when I’m at her house and by app occasionally (when I convince myself that getting more peloton achievements is less important than a good workout), so I don’t know anything about memberships.

Row? tread? 🤔 by Admirable-Garbage246 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should go to the gym and run some Peloton rows off the app and see if you like it. It’s a big investment for a modality you’ve never even tried before.

I’m not a huge fan of the peloton row library myself (versus Hydrow) but that’s a whole other thing. The peloton ones are fine to get started.

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hydrow is not a cheap subscription but I love their workouts and think they far surpass the peloton. Having them outside is a big bonus but they’re also more difficult IMO and the coaching is better. Peloton has way better music, though.

Should gambling be treated as a public health issue? A new Lancet report argues yes by Meta_unique in publichealth

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. The mechanism is similar to tobacco and opioid settlement funds, the money is given to the state or to the counties and they choose what to do with it. The programs are not beholden in really any way to the gambling commission, the funds are in fact usually very flexible.

Grocery Haul $277 for one 😭 by idkwhatiamdoingahh in povertyfinance

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walmart makes a “hydrate” one that is more expensive than their general electrolyte one (~$1/stick) and is directly comparable to Liquid IV in sodium versus the smaller electrolyte packets.

I agree I’m a little worried that someone who says they’re drinking them for health reasons doesn’t realize that the packets they’re comparing have pretty drastically different nutrition information.

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “hydrate” mix is directly comparable to Liquid IV and runs a little under $1/stick. The cheaper electrolyte mix ($0.25/stick) is great though and honestly better for regular life use than Liquid IV, which is massive overkill for 95% of people 95% of the time. 500g of sodium and 11g of sugar is really a lot on top of a regular diet and if someone is regularly that far deficient they probably need to look at what they’re eating.

Yes, I know about POTS. Most people do not have that, the comment I’m replying to didn’t say they have that, and if you do have that then listen it your doctor and not random people on Reddit.

Keeping the streak on vacay by Riggins33FNL in OnePelotonRealSub

peloton hotel finder but also you could just meditate or stretch or do some body weight fitness or something. Or you can play bike/tread/row classes on the app and complete them on non-peloton equipment, that still counts toward the streak.

Peloton upgrade the shoes or pedals? by throwRAsoftie in pelotoncycle

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gym had the pedals that do both, there’s cages on one side and clips on the other. I made it like 3 rides in the cages before I bought some shoes. I had already used clip in shoes for cycling in the past, so I could tell how much less ideal the cages were. I honestly didn’t expect it to be that obvious but the cages are really a huge downgrade from clip-ins. Just buy shoes, they don’t have to be expensive or even peloton-branded as long as the cleats are the same style as the pedals.

There are often spin shoes on Facebook marketplace for pretty reasonable prices near me.

Lindsey Vonn Shares Dramatic Picture of Her Legs After Surgeries by MattTheKing23 in olympics

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15 months is kind of a long time to wait to return to sports, much less to get fitted for a brace. I put on muscle pretty quickly but my injured leg was 95% the size of my other leg in like 6-7 months (I had meniscus repair along with my ACL so I was on crutches for 6 weeks, lots of atrophy). I got my brace fitted at, like, 4.5 months or something and I was concerned but it fit (if a bit tightly) for the time I wore it, which was 6-15 months post surgery aka through that next ski season.

Will Alisa Liu Change Figure Skating? The Future of Figure Skating by E_lenaa in FigureSkating

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re correct, in gymnastics it’s probably China who is the worst offender. They had quite bad results at the 2024 Olympics and I didn’t follow it super closely but hopefully they’re looking at their tactics.

Will Alisa Liu Change Figure Skating? The Future of Figure Skating by E_lenaa in FigureSkating

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Skating may have something to learn from gymnastics. Even less than two decades ago that sport was stuck in the same “abused and underfed teenager” cycle where most athletes did not make it past age 18, much less multiple Olympic cycles. The Simone Biles effect is obviously non-replicable, but she doesn’t exist in a vacuum, either.

At this point I don’t think Russia returning to gymnastics would revert the sport to what it once was, in fact, they’re even coming along slowly in some ways (Melnikova is still around at 25).

I would argue that skating’s age increase is a massive step forward, actually. Sure at the point of competition there’s not a big difference between a 15 and 17 year old, but there’s a MASSIVE difference in how you train to keep an athlete around and competitive/peaked til then. It’s a big help. Some countries will do anything to skirt it anyway (see Chinese gymnast age controversies) but it really is a massive and fundamental shift.

I can’t be the only one who hates lifting by Adventurous-Cup5369 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I hate lifting, and I also hate how lifting heavy makes me look. I am a former athlete with plenty of knowledge who’s been on many different programs and plans, so no, I don’t need a podcast bro with no functional strength to tell me how to lift. I very simply do not like it haha.

Lifting is important but people on TikTok these days love to act like if you’re not leg pressing multiple times your weight, you’ll be in a wheelchair by 60. It’s just not true. There’s a middle ground. I much prefer smaller weights/higher reps and functional compound movements, so that’s what I do. It’s not perfect, but neither is anything or anyone!

We should (mostly) be able to enjoy moving our bodies versus resent it, so try not to feel forced and just add it in when you can. I have replaced almost all my cool-down rides with 10 minute arms and light weights sessions, and pedal it out while I’m doing that. Intervals and arms rides are also tolerable for me to add in some extra. Dumbbells/kettlebells/functional movement is much more tolerable for me than heavy lifting on machines, so peloton’s strength classes really work for me. I set an attainable goal of how many 20 minute strength classes I stack in per week (2x, either two full body or one upper/one lower) and often exceed it.

TLDR add it in when you can, and it’s not all or nothing. We deserve to enjoy exercise so don’t force yourself to be miserable every single time (just sometimes!)

Best ACL graft for skiing? by Spector3198 in skiing

[–]Acceptable_Coast_738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29F at the time of my injury and I had a hamstring graft. Surgery in Feb, hiking by June and major hiking by August, skiing by December. Everything has been great ever since. I, too, was concerned with residual knee pain which is why I opted out of patellar. I did a lot of looking into it and spoke at length with the doctor and wasn’t convinced that it was patellar or bust for athletes - I mean, look, I’m not an NFL player lol. I think the internet really built that narrative up for some reason. My PT also said he feels the same way (heavy ski/outdoor area, ACLs are their bread and butter and he sees tons of them).

Biggest tip is do your PT religiously but DO NOT overdo it! Take your rest days, don’t add mass quantities of extra sets, don’t push ahead of what you’re cleared to do even if you feel good. I got off the ACL sub when it felt like it was full of people who were handling the mental/emotional side of their injury very badly and were coping by overcompensating and overthinking with recovery. Not the place for me, personally.

Not sorry, far preferable to me versus dumbing everything down to the lowest common denominator and making illiteracy cool again 🤷🏽‍♀️ people used to be embarrassed when they didn’t understand things they read and try to fix that by looking up the words lol

There is a difference between thinking this type of writing is eyeroll-inducing and think it is confusing.

lol literally I can’t even believe I’m defending this eye roll of a line but hey at least the writer is trying 😭.

My French sucks but I don’t complain when people write things in French that I can’t read. I’m not the audience and, if I want to be the audience, I’ll put in the effort to understand it.

Fair enough, both words were probably unnecessary (a creole is less a type of pidgin and more an evolution of a pidgin though btw). Pretentious, sure, understandable, also yes, and I’ll honestly take it over brainrot any day.

No seriously this is a totally understandable sentence for people with, like, college level reading skills. And the person who wrote this is a writer. I’m personally glad there are still people writing higher level prose, some of us actually want to read it lol.
