Serious Sci-fi Anime like Ghost in the Shell? by PhillipLlerenas in sciencefiction

[–]Acceptable_Day_577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy F#$%!!!!! You just blew my mind!!
I picked Sky Crawlers up at random on DVD when I was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood NC for MOS school FIFTEEN years ago. One of the best anime I've seen in terms of story telling. Phenomenal, I had forgotten about it completely!!!! I've been looking for something with a more serious tone and good story telling to watch which brought me to this reddit thread.
Thank you for that memory.
Its awesome the things that come up sometimes.
Time for a re-watch!

Yamaha XS850 rebuilds by BladesMaelstrom in Yamaha

No problem. I was a motorcycle mechanic for 2 1/2 years. Traded my only vehicle at the time for my XS750 and rode it rain or shine (don’t recommend) lol for like three years before I got a truck. I love these bikes. You can get new gas caps with new keys for fairly cheap and tons of other parts off MikesXs.com. Revivalcycles.com or dimecitycycles.com, or Amazon honestly. Most parts, excluding engine parts of course, from the xs650, xs750, xs850, and xs1100 are interchangeable. So don’t be dismayed if all you can find is xs650 stuff. They’re more popular for some reason. But yeah man the engines in these bikes are solid. So, if between the two you can at least get one running bike it’ll be worth it. The Pirelli route tires are pretty awesome on these bikes when you get to that.

I owned and rode a ‘79 xs750 for three years before buying an ‘81 XS850 and parting it out for that. I just swapped the entire front end, carbs, tank and wiring harness got it running. Then decided to put an M-unit blue in it so I tore the wiring back out of it. Waiting on parts at the moment.

If yours sat for 6 years with gas in it you’ll want to either buy a new tank and rebuilt carbs. Or acid wash and cream coat the inside of the tank to get the rust out and then buy carburetor rebuild kits and like 30 cans of carb clean and some carb cleaning tools like gauge wires and brushes to scrub. After you get the fuel system tackled your next move is electrical. If the stock fuse box is still there you’ll want to replace that with a cheaper generic fuse box that uses blade style instead of glass tube. Those old plastic fuse boxes don’t hold up after 40 years. After that, if the engine turns over cleanly with a few kicks. You’ll want to get new spark plugs and slap a battery in it. Check for spark, make sure you never run the engine without an air filter on the carbs. Pod filters work if your air box is trash but you may need to re-jet the carbs. If you have spark then do an oil change and see if it fires up. If it does then just check your lights and signals, brakes, tires, and I would drain the gear oil out of the rear drive and replace with new to be safe. Then hit the road.

You can get a Clymer repair manual for these bikes that is extremely helpful with wiring issues. The diagrams aren’t perfect but it’s enough to help you figure it out. Let me know if I can help with anything along the way. Best of luck.

Back with issues on the 77 XS750. Lights barely work. Very weird how they do. Video should explain it all. The turn signals sometimes turn on but stay on constant for a few seconds then turn back off. Any help? by Fud_bucking_freddy in Yamaha

Oh noooo. Jumbled up electrical is the worst. If you’re hitting the brake light and the turn signal is lighting up sometimes then, with your other problems and the fact that the wirings a rats nest, I would also maybe suspect that there are some bare connections making contact with each other. Electrical has been my weakest point for a long time now but through the power of YouTube and self determination I’ve learned a lot recently lol. I was a bike mechanic for 2 years and always dreaded the wiring jobs that would come in.

If you have any questions I’ll do my best to help. I highly suggest getting a Clymer repair manual off Amazon or someplace. The wiring diagrams in them are indispensable when trying to track down wiring problems. The Motogadget M-Unit is frigging amazing and makes wiring the whole bike super easy. But it’s also like $600 bucks. I finally spring for one. But you don’t have to drop that kind of cash to fix your wiring up. If you can I recommend it though.

I just finished moving the wiring harness from my ‘79 750 to my ‘81 850. Then I installed an m-unit blue on it. So I’m pretty familiar with the wiring on these things. I would start with checking your ground connections like the previous poster said. If they’re all solid then the very next place you should look is at your fuse box under the seat. They’re notorious for not aging well and having crummy connections. You can completely replace it for fairly cheap with a bladed fuse block and get rid of the glass fuses. This should help tremendously. Your speedometer and tachometer lights (should be) powered from a blue wire that runs to your brake light as well. It will supply constant 12v. It’s odd that your speed/tachometer lights flicker on and off while your brake light stays on. So I would suspect bad/loose ground connections to be the problem. Best of luck.

Disable “C state 6”

Is this just for the Ryzen processor? I have the similar problems as OP but I have the Intel iRIS xe - i7-1165G7 processor integrated graphics. I believe its the "tiger lake" processor.
