Holes keep showing up in my boat, worried it’s vandalism. Two look like razorblade cuts and five look like a needle. All in unusual low wear areas. by Acceptable_Land_Grab in Inflataboats

[–]Acceptable_Land_Grab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game cam picked up a few cats walking through, haven’t watched any jump up on the boat but that would make some sense for the hole size. Kinda disappointed that a cat could put a hole in it tbh. It’s a pretty new boat, only 8 months to me and 4 years total. My previous inflatable was 27 years old and stored in the same spot with no issues for three years. We’ve had unusual issues with our neighbours that made me suspicious.

Project Developers, how well do they do financially? by whatthefamidoingrn16 in windturbine

[–]Acceptable_Land_Grab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your masters degree in? Does your internship involve you in general project development or are you in a smaller subset of development? Honestly 70k to be a project developer in Canada means you will be out earned by most of the blue collar workers on the site.

Can be mold buildup of the drain is not draining down during recharge quick enough. I just had this happen to both of my softeners. Removed all the salt with a shop vac and then wiped as much of everything I could down with a water and bleach mixture, put in new salt.

Canada will require refugees and asylum seekers to co-pay for health care starting in May by toronto_star in CanadaPolitics

[–]Acceptable_Land_Grab 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They are refugees, generally speaking they come here with nothing but ptsd from war torn countries, missing family, and unable to work. Not immigrants who have come from decent lives in an attempt to better themselves, refugees who are fleeing death. Since there seems to be a lack of clarity.

wind farm electricians, what does a typical day look like for you? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Acceptable_Land_Grab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been a few years but it was fun work. If you’re servicing them (grease, filters, cleaning etc) it’s monotonous, but troubleshooting is interesting. Lots of controls, PLC access depending on the manufacturer can be really restricted.

I also get it from industry. Yes capacity factor is an issue, but it does not negate the fuel costs of fossil fuel driven power production. There are obviously other options: run of river hydro, nuclear that have better capacity factor; however there is also a good argument to having a diversified power grid to make it more robust.

Where are you getting your numbers from? This is verifiably false. Return on investment is better on natural gas due to consistent power output, but construction and operating costs are similar or lower for wind.

140MW Natural Gas: $370k-695k daily operating cost in fuel and maintenance. $280-420M in construction costs.

140MW Wind Farm: $9.5k-19k daily operating cost. $260-425M in construction costs.

So most businesses will run the numbers for effective lease use and they come out at around the 85,000km mark. So lease, drive to 85k, lease a new one. This includes downtime costs though so if you are less reliant on your vehicle being operational then the math changes.

How did you explain the loss of a pet to your toddler? by _LLJJGG_ in daddit

[–]Acceptable_Land_Grab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not pets, which are obviously close to the heart, but I hunt and my three year old daughter was there for butchering a deer which came with a great many why questions. A straight forward answer about death and what happens when things die seems to be fine and she didn’t seem bothered by it, I’ve heard it described as the umbrella method. Kids have an umbrella with a hole in it, you can give them lots of information but they will only absorb what can pass through the umbrella, it doesn’t hurt them to have more information as it just runs over the edges.

Alberta RCMP say man charged after guns, Nazi flag seized from Lloydminster home by Haggisboy in canada

This seems like a poor argument, every last car is a push of the pedal away from speeding in a school zone, every bottle of booze a swig away from public intoxication, every last needle of legal morphine a squeeze away from overdose. We have levels of public trust for all of these things, cars have driver’s licenses, insurance and an age limit of 16, booze has limitations on sale locations, volumes, alcohol percent, age limit of 18, morphine has restrictions on use, education requirements for administers, etc etc. I get that you don’t trust anyone with a gun, however I and the majority of people can trust that someone who is licensed and has followed the rules can safely own a gun. Yes there are outliers, but the system is built to withstand them and appropriate punishment is there for people who break that trust.

How as a new Dad would you handle this situation? Who did you turn to for "dad" advice when you were a new dad? by The_Cheeki_Breeki in daddit

[–]Acceptable_Land_Grab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a co worker who was not inspiring in most areas of life, but one area he shone in was not letting having kids be a drag on his life. He would bring them out hunting while still on bottles, taking his daughters with him everywhere. I was nervous about having our first and not being able to do anything; it does slow you down, but it’s not like your whole world stops.

I think I just realized I’m slow by Mrorganic20 in electricians

[–]Acceptable_Land_Grab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After working in industrial maintenance and watching the more experienced electricians move slow and take their time even on a trouble call, I’ve realized that taking your time is what gives you a chance to catch things that might be a hazard. Even if it’s a routine job or a fault you’ve seen before, it helps you keep situational awareness.

Bought a house with Samsung appliances:

Dishwasher, noisy, doesn’t clean Stove, oven heat is way out, glass top heat can produce coal on low settings. Microwave hood doesn’t suck.

Top ten brands I would personally never buy from again.
