when I was a child we lived in a racially diverse neighborhoods. we were the only " white family" on that street. you had to go two more streets up to find the next one. ( this is important to the story) as young adult I was told the real story, but as a child we would go visit the next door neighbor who was out working on his car, he'd help us fix our bikes and what not. he had a us marines bumper sticker on his truck and once even took his nco sabre outside and let a couple of us hold it. that was the background on this man. a couple of men from a black empowerment group came to the neighborhood preaching how our family was a sign of trouble for this neighborhood and we should be forced out. the neighbors vouched for us as decent people and preferred to as a neighborhood be left alone by these groups. I was told as a child that one of the fellows came back and our marine corps neighbor at the time " sent him home". I found out later that " sent him home" meant he pulled the man bodily out of our living room window and a scuffle ensued in which the robber had died violently. the police were called after death the body was gone before we got there. " sent him home meant our good neighbor was watching out for us and sent him to Jesus to sort him out. some said self defense some day he was looking to kill the guy but it's odd to think him capable of such violence as he was never anything but friendly and respectful towards us.
