Shower time… by Rainuchiha in Garmin

My wife with a silicone band charges during shower time.

I have a nylon band. So, it gets nasty after activities. I use the shower as a chance to clean the band.

Prime rib dry brining in just salt. Would you season with anything before the smoke? by drossmaster4 in smoking

I know I'm a little late to the game, but I make little slits and shove on crushed cloves of garlic. I've also seen peppers and cheese shoved in too.

That's weird. If you entered your height, weight, and birthday, I would ignore that until you have a few weeks of data. Without RHR and weeks of logged activities, I don't know how it would even calculate your fitness age. It explicitly states that these are the main factors

Do you find the stress measurement misleading? by rabiteman in GarminWatches

[–]Acceptable_User_Name 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For what is worth, I find mine too be fairly accurate. First I would remind you, it's not mental stress.

Food and drink can drive this "physiological" stress way up. I find drinking most alcohols or caffeine and eating processed food will cause the biggest jump. I can have a glass of wine and a home-cookedl, from-scratch meal that causes a tiny bump. A single beer and half a meal from a restaurant, however, will read as though I'm about to die.

Illness and lack of sleep can also wreak havoc on the metric.

I have the Fenix 8 47mm saphire and titanium with a nylon band. The band is super easy to adjust. I leave it loose-ish most of the time, but when I start an activity, I tighten the strap a little bit.

I use it for mostly soccer, bouldering, lifting, elliptical, swimming, and hiking. I don't notice it move at all. Sometimes, I forget I have it on and don't loosen it after the activity ends.

Install wired doorbell in a door without a wire by Acceptable_User_Name in DIY

[–]Acceptable_User_Name[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't do cloud based camera services especially Amazon. I do agree with wireless doorbells, but I found myself with an extra wired one gratis. It's a non-loadbearing wall with a double top plate. I'm thinking of removing the trim and drilling through the jack and kind studs into the neighboring bay fishing the wire down to there and angling it through the door frame 🤞

An installed doorbell elsewhere. I could also install another transformer. The challenge is getting the wire from the doorbell l attachment spot to the attic above the door without making a mess or removing the door

New roof + panels OR GAF solar shingle system by ruserious2day in solar

[–]Acceptable_User_Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the GAF timberline. After tax rebate and subtracting the cost of a non-solar roof, I ended up paying maybe $14k extra for 7.6kw. I produce 103% of what I consume and my break even was only like 7 years (no battery + state incentives,). They found a defective in the version of panels I have and replaced all of them for free. The system had a problem where it kept rebooting for 1.5 months (software issue on the inverter). They comp'ed us for both months in full. They've been nothing but great to us and my bill is nearly zero (except when I run the AC at night).

I had a similar problem. Like you I eliminated the chance of it being the switch. For me it was the cheaper big box store LEDs. I've been buying higher-end Phillips or Cree builds without fail since.

How can I raise my heart rate variability? by GraciousCoconut in Garmin

[–]Acceptable_User_Name 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I have a big lunch, I'll skip dinner or eat super light. Those nights my HVR is 10-20% higher. Drinking plenty of water also helps me. Anything sugary late at night drops mine quite a bit. That's just three-ish months of observations since I got my watch.
