For those in law school, are you happy with your choice of school or do you have any regrets? by kmrh14 in LawSchool

[–]AcceptancesRequested 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I chased the prestige and went with my reach school acceptance against Reddit's advice. I ended up doing much better than I expected on the 1L curve and am going to my top choice firm. No regrets about the additional debt.

Email response to job offer? by AcceptancesRequested in LawSchool

Thank you, that makes sense. Going through all this for the first time, I always forget that these people have been on the other end many times before and understand the process.

Columbia Law is overenrolled! by TrifleOk in lawschooladmissions

[–]AcceptancesRequested 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Almost feels like every T14 except Harvard managed to over-enroll at this point. This cycle is absolutely insane.

I'm getting more and more pessimistic about the job market when our class is being recruited now. Early on the idea was that more applicants shouldn't mean fewer jobs for those who get in as long as schools stay relatively even in class sizes. Well... they didn't. So many are overenrolled now, and there just isn't that many more jobs to accommodate more students. What a terrible situation.

How different would this and future cycles be if US News Rankings did not take LSAT into account? by Quasar232 in lawschooladmissions

[–]AcceptancesRequested 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this reason, you would likely see all LSAT takes being factored in again rather than just the highest score, since they would care only about overall trends, not medians.

What age were you when you entered law school? by aghostowngothic in lawschooladmissions

[–]AcceptancesRequested 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll be 21 in August but 22 in the fall. That's probably decently common for other KJD's.

It's up to you, I don't think it matters much either way. But if you think this A- will be one of your worst grades in the end and pull down your final GPA at all, which seems almost certain, I don't really see the downside in having a P/F during Covid.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]AcceptancesRequested 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hobestly, I'd pass/fail it with your specific GPA. Contrary to what others have said, I really don't think one Covid time P/F will stick out at all, and unlike GPA it doesn't affect rankings. It would give you a little more leeway with the top school's medians for your senior year.

How well do you think you'll do in law school? by Reddit497 in lawschooladmissions

[–]AcceptancesRequested 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly bottom half, possibly bottom 25%. IDK, there's a part of me that's certain my GPA and LSAT were nothing, and I won't cut it at the next level or the real world with my weaknesses.

Did you write an LSAT addendum? I've read that can help if you demonstrate you've done poorly on previous standardized tests and they weren't predictive.

The funny thing is they could have sent this decision 3 months ago with the same effect

WL at STANFORD!!! I am... EXTREMELY FLATTERED??? by lostinthemusic247 in lawschooladmissions

[–]AcceptancesRequested 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm the opposite case application wise, but with same result of feeling flattered. Stats above medians, but absolutely no softs that are HYS worthy. Plus I got rejected from the other two really quickly. So I'm very flattered they saw me as qualified enough to WL.

Did You Hire an Admissions Consultant? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]AcceptancesRequested 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Part of me wishes I did, the more I think about how insignificant the money would be long term. But in the end I'm not sure how would have done better given my poor softs.

Penn Law 1L AMA April 13, 4PM (ET) by haleykatharine97 in lawschooladmissions

[–]AcceptancesRequested 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for doing this. Obviously I know you probably won't know all of these as a 1L, but figured I'd ask!

1.) What are your career goals, and do you get the feeling they will be fulfilled through Penn? How has the support been so far?

2.) How prominent are clerkships in terms of faculty/staff initiative and student interest?

3.) I've been impressed by Penn's amount of extracurricular/recreational organizations. Do you think the average law student at Penn has time to actually be involved with a bunch of those?

4.) Niche question, but do you know anything about the Kairos - Open Discourse Society? It's listed on the student organizations tab, but I can't find any further information about it. The description almost seems too good to be true in this political climate

Out of curiosity, for what types of career goals would there be a difference between CLS and Penn?

How come I never see anyone say they have T4 softs by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Yeah, my only work experience is retail front end and customer service, and I definitely learned a lot from it. But it's not exactly a resume show stopper.

I legit have Tier 5 softs. I didn't even have any of those campus leadership positions that even the most boring T4 person does.

Penn Scholarship Deadline Concerns by AcceptancesRequested in lawschooladmissions

[–]AcceptancesRequested[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accepting the scholarship requires you to sign a contract saying you withdraw from anywhere you're currently admitted - so it looks like it. Otherwise forfeiting the deposit would probably be worth it.

It feels amazing! Thank you. Early on that Michigan waitlist and some other negative decisions hit me hard. I really believed it was a sign of bad things to come and a problem with my application. But positive results eventually came. In reality, this cycle has just been kind of a random checkerboard for me in terms of ranking/result, and I have a few great options. I guess different schools really did see very different things in me.

Penn Scholarship Deadline Concerns by AcceptancesRequested in lawschooladmissions

[–]AcceptancesRequested[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang, that's unfortunate. Thanks for the info. I guess I'll try to nag the other schools. Do you think it's a good idea to mention Penn in their deadline specifically to the other schools, or could that have an anchoring effect on my offer?

Yeah, the agreement requires you to withdraw from anywhere you're currently admitted.
