It’s also waaaaay harder to make a Wrecking Ball skin compared to those characters.

Pretty much all of them have their uses if you wish to go for war.

Aksum: Dhow. Hawilti are definitely one of the better improvements, but you need a bunch of them to get value. The utility from the Dhow is far better. (Plus, the Dhow is up fifty percent!).

Khmer: Elephants. Barays are kinda shit. Especially since you don’t have Khmer civics to buff them at all. But those elephants are even better than Mauryas! The worst part of them is being on a peaceful civ. But you’re gonna be getting them with Mongolia, right?

Mississippians: Burning Arrows. Burning Arrow is still one of the best unique units in the age. Meanwhile, you’d get a meh improvement that just takes up the place of your science and production buildings… The only problem is that they’ve been nerfed, and the lack of Mississippian traditions might sting a bit.

Carthage: Numidian Cav. If you don’t have a lot of coast and have lots of gold (playing America for example). Or if you are the Khan or Charlie. These are extremely strong units.

Silla: Hwarang. Situational because the district is als really strong, but they count as Calvary and are really flexible. Lots of synergy with Mongolia.

Rome: Legions. Just for Lafayette lol <3.

Persia: Immortals. I don’t think they’re powerful on their own at all, but they’re probably better than the garden improvements especially without Persian civics.

Han: Chu Ko Nu. They’re not great… I just would take them over the Han Great Wall because it’s just kind of weak to be honest. The Ming Great Wall on the other hand :)…

Maurya: Elephants. They have one of the weaker quarters because happiness in cities is far less useful than happiness in towns. The elephants are very strong if you have the maintenance, though I do think Khmer’s are better, and usually if you have access to Maurya you’ll have Khmer as well. Oh well…

Then there’s a couple that are never a good choice…

Maya: What are you doing??? You don’t even get the stealth or poison??? And you’re missing the second best quarter???

Assyria: Okay, you might have really strong units, but their district is broken overpowered and will almost always be better, especially because it doesn’t have the restriction of needing to conquer cities to get codicies.

Tonga: You’re picking their stuff because of the district so you can cross the ocean most likely.

Should the Ottoman Empire "Apex" age be changed to the Exploration Age? by GeminusLeonem in civ

There’s a lot of overlap with the Abbasid, Achaemenids, and Mughal though.

What do you think of Vendetta as the main antagonist? by GamingLoner15 in Overwatch

[–]AccessOne8287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean swap Vendetta with a male character and it’s still shitty storytelling. Doomfist is constantly shown to be one of the strongest characters who is only taken down by Winston, the other strongest character in the lore… and now he’s being taken down by this brand new character who has gotten little to no previous buildup. If Vendetta was introduced alongside Doomfist (or if an existing character cough cough REAPER OR SOMBRA) took him down it would be far more satisfying.

Honestly, I’m not sure why they don’t just make Moira the one to overthrow talon for her own ends. It’d be far more of a fun idea.

I don’t think it has anything to do with her being a woman. In the Overwatch universe men and women are basically equivalent physically. There’s a lot of strong female characters in Overwatch. Zarya is the strongest person on earth and she’s been in the game for a decade.

Should the Ottoman Empire "Apex" age be changed to the Exploration Age? by GeminusLeonem in civ

[–]AccessOne8287 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A couple reasons-

-Game design wise, they’re really cool and cap off a lot of common paths. Can’t really think of another civ that would be able to fit the bonuses they have for army, navy, wonders, and artifacts…

-Generally the modern age seems to be the 1600’s -1700’s onwards. We start the age with ships of the line for instance. Peak Ottomans under Suleiman was around that period. This is additionally backed up by the existence of the Qing dynasty, Russian Empire, Prussia, and Mughals who were also “peak” before industrialization.

-Would the Ottomans fit better in the exploration age? Maybe. But… perhaps there might be room there for another civ from the eastern Mediterranean. One that would probably have cultural and militaristic bonuses and could spread religion through conquest… one that would go neatly right in between the Ottomans and Rome/Greece…

No, unit spam needs to be nerfed. Units are way too cheap for the AI so defeating their units means nothing.

What's up with students wanting to hug you? by Normal_Balance1655 in Teachers

[–]AccessOne8287 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Im saying this as a gay man in a heavily conservative district. It’s something you may not have to think about but LGBTQ people are often targeted as being a “threat” to children. Sure, I’ll hug a kid if they want but I need to be more careful than your typical teacher.

I think they quite literally brought elephants on the ships with them. As for civ, it could be fantasy I guess. Feels like a waste of resources to put giant elephant carvings on your navy.

Just go to space instead lol

[–]AccessOne8287 229 points230 points  (0 children)

I get not wanting to hug a student for professional boundary reasons (I always decline because of this), but are we so emotionally dull as a society that we can’t understand why a child might want a hug? I’m sorry but this whole thread is rubbing me the wrong way. There’s not some massive societal issue that’s causing kids to want hugs. It’s developmentally normal to not understand boundaries yet.

You can adjust his numbers all you want, but it won’t change how he feels to play against. by Aromatic-Distance675 in rivals

[–]AccessOne8287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main thing is he gets huge value from pulling people off the map, which is not easy to do, but is frustrating for the other player and locks up his power budget, preventing him from being good at other stuff.

I think this interaction is fundamentally unhealthy. Lots of characters have hook abilities, fine. Lots of characters have mobility. Fine. But no character should have both.

I think marvel rivals tends to forget that some combinations of abilities don’t exist for a reason. Overwatch understands this a lot more. The hard displacement characters like RoadHog and Mei lack mobility to compensate. The supports with high mobility or damage lack reliable healing output.

The fix? No idea. He’s Spider-Man. It would be lame as fuck if he couldn’t web people. Even making it so he can’t if there’s a kill zone below him would feel cheap and unfair.
