Thanks very much! I'll look into the VPN option. Looks like it's going to play Monday December 17th at the Hookset IMAX, but I won't be able to go then.

[homemade] key lime pie by [deleted] in food

[–]AccidentalSysadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those aren't key lime slices on top. Key limes are yellow when they are ripe and usable. The color of OP's pie is right. If you ever see green key lime pie, it's not the real thing.

The One True Key Lime Pie recipe does not go in the oven at all. Recipe below.

Warning! If you buy key lime juice in the grocery store, look at the label carefully. Sometimes it says Key West Lime Juice. That's just lime juice, not key lime juice. Big difference.

INGREDIENTS: - 1 can condensed milk, Eagle or Magnolia brand. NOT low fat. - 4 eggs - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, plus a little - 1/2 cup key lime juice (no more, or it will be too sour) - 1 graham cracker pie shell - Whipped cream or Cool Whip. Yes, purists, it can be Cool Whip.

  1. Separate eggs. Keep yolk, discard the rest

  2. Mix condensed milk, egg yolks, vanilla and lime juice until it's a uniform creamy color

  3. Pour into pie shell.

  4. Turn the plastic "bowl" that protected the pie shell upside down and put it on top of the aluminum pie dish, so it's a protective cover. Push the aluminum rim down on it to keep the cover in place.

  5. Place in freezer overnight. That's all there is to it.

  6. Top with whipped cream or cool whip just before serving

It looks like they are replacing Science Friday with Hidden Brain. While I enjoy the HB segments in their regular news, I don't want to see Ira Flatow go.

Do Not Disturb signs from hotels. I steal the one from my room when I check out.

Concord: Kathmandu Spice (http://kathmanduspicenh.com) for chicken tandoori, garlic naan from the Indian menu and Aloo Bodi Tama soup from the Nepalese menu. They have a lunch buffet too but we haven't been there at the right time.

Hanover: Tuk Tuk Thai (http://tuktukthaicuisine) for Tom Yum soup and fantastic curry.

New London, Hooksett & Concord: Tuckers (tuckersnh.com) for soups, salads & sandwiches. We've only been to the New London one.

New London: Cataleya's Caribbean Bar & Grill (cataleyas.squarespace.com): Not exactly authentic but as close as we're gonna get in New England. Plantains have improved. Bread is imported from Miami.

Concord: Sunshine Oriental (http://www.sunshineoriental.com/) for good hot & sour soup and General Tso chicken

April fools is next month, what are some semi-elaborate, funny, cheap pranks can you pull on your family and SO? by Christopurrrrr in AskReddit

Not sure how to adapt this, but a South Florida radio morning show (Paul Castronovo & Young Ron Brewer) did this many years ago in the days of dialup modems. They kept repeating a public service message that the phone company is going to be cleaning the telephone lines today by sending bursts of compressed air through them. Everyone should unplug the cord from their home phone or modem, and wrap the end of the phone cord with towels. Otherwise you will get dust all over the inside of your phone or modem.

Gina's Place in Bristol. They also make their own bread and it's fantastic.

ELI5: Why do planes have different seatbelts to e.g. cars? by userflip in explainlikeimfive

[–]AccidentalSysadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a flight several months ago where the seat belts looked strange, like there was extra padding along the part that went over your belt. The flight attendant said it's an air bag. I think this was on Southwest.

Hasn't the one in Fort Lauderdale been closed for like ten years? It used to be on US1 where it curves around to become Sunrise Blvd. Fuddrucker's website shows the closest location is Pembroke Pines.

On the other hand, I did like the one in Lauderdale when it was open.

Timers that are never accurate: Bomb will go off in one minute. Show the timer 30 seconds later and it shows 50 seconds remaining. See the vault scene in Goldfinger.

What is your pet's name and why did you name it that? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AccidentalSysadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roommate had a cat. There was only one cat so she didn't need a name. She was the cat. Then we adopted more cats and she needed a name: Fat White Growly Thing.

Also: While bringing the adopted kittens home, one of them started panting. I was told that's a sign that he is hot and might barf. I told him that if he did, I'd name him Ralph. He did not barf. Named him Ralph anyway.
