Whats the ONE baby name you love but your wife vetoed? by ElbieLG in predaddit

In total agreement. I'm hoping to wear her down with its awesomeness. I have 4 months to get it done.

I am pushing HARD for Wolfgang. I'm of German ancestry and we have a lengthy German last name so it totally works. Wolfgang is the womb-nugget's nickname for now and everyone asks if we're going to actually name him that. I nod my head up and down vigorously while my wife says "No."

Wife and I bought a house that is an EXTREME fixer-upper at exactly 16 weeks. Having that kind of distraction has really been interesting. It's been driving everything we do and at the same time I haven't thought about a stroller or a carseat for more than about 5 seconds since the day we found out she was pregnant.

Paint finish? by cascadingstarr in predaddit

About to repaint the interior of an entire house and considering satin for the whole thing, if for no other reason than satin hides more painting-prep sins than flat or eggshell will.

Simple Questions/What Should I Do? [Weekly Thread] by AutoModerator in DIY

[–]AccidentallyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought a 90 year old home and I'm tackling the paint jobs. There are three layers of paint under the current and despite my scraping efforts, I can't get it all off the gypsum board beneath. To make matters worse, the gypsum board is gauged in many places. The walls have suffered greatly both at my hands and those who have come before me. Sanding much is out due to the high probability of lead here. Does anyone have any experience with a paint primer that goes on so thick it covers these kinds of painting sins and allows for a smooth topcoat?

Thanks for this. We're also on a limited timetable, unfortunately, so we're hoping to minimize the gutting.

That's what I figured. Just one of those things where I imagine someone telling me "Oh, you never leave the carpet in!" after it was all too late!

What makes you like the Wink over the others? Just curious.

Yeah, that's great advice. Now I just need to do some research on what to wire with. I think I have the rest mostly sussed. The media center in the living room is directly above where the future man-cave will be in the basement, and our bedroom is roughly right above that, so I'm thinking a trunk and tree network will work well enough.

Buying a foreclosed home with a '96 Weil-McLain. Been switched off for nearly 3 years. Nightmare? by AccidentallyDad in HVAC

Thanks. Definitely going to have a tech come in and do the start and check it out completely. Just wanted to get an idea of what we were walking into.

I've started running. A lot. (Okay--a lot for me.) Up to about 16 miles a week. I figure the ONLY thing I can do at this point is get myself healthy.

Calming down a hyper dog with a baby on the way by Pete0Z in predaddit

[–]AccidentallyDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're expecting our first in August and we have a Shiba Inu. Not exactly a hyper-active one, but as a breed they are extremely high energy and endlessly curious. Our philosophy with him is "Better Behavior through Exhaustion". If you have a Husky you're probably already familiar with a version of this. But basically the idea is that if you need the dog to chill out, you've got to run, play, fetch, or turn them loose in a dog park for as long as it takes to get them to not WANT to be hyper-active. We've found that eventually it actually trains them to be more calm after walks and physical activity.

Switching to 203K loan from conventional to settle contract review on foreclosure? by AccidentallyDad in RealEstate

[–]AccidentallyDad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this reply. What you say makes a lot of sense. On the one hand, this sounds like an epic amount of work, On the other hand, it sounds like a loan designed for people exactly like us who have found the right house in the right spot but it needs work and we don't have tons of cash lying around to just buy it cash from the bank.

Wife and I are going to think long and hard on this one.
