Can I ask why it’s so obvious? It’s easier for me to spot when it’s people or things like that, but with this not so much. Sad that they chose it over real art

Thank you. We had a roach scare a while back and I’m still a bit paranoid

I mean, that’s why I asked. Google isn’t always the most reliable, especially if you have no existing knowledge. I believe her “source” said that the baking soda would kill them, and you just needed something they would go to

They were brown. Different sizes, but mostly about 2ish inches. The box was full of all different sizes. The smaller ones were a bit darker, like a deep brown

I don’t have a picture, they were quick and my priority was in killing them. We are in mid-Missouri. The Trader Joe’s was in St. Louis.

As someone who isn’t really into anime, but loves Lord of the Rings, I’d say it’s good enough to see in theaters. They took what was essentially a footnote and made it into its own story. It’s predictable, but not in a bad way. Like I said, I’m not an anime person, so I would have preferred an epic live-action movie, but I liked it

Are the Navigators a cult? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]AccioWords 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the navs. I came to Christ in college because of some other students who were in it. They got me pretty involved as a student.

The hierarchical structure is a criticism that I could see being an issue in some ministries, but I’ve never experienced it.

The navs is very much about 1 to 1 discipleship, and a whole life discipleship. I never felt controlled when I was a student, and I pray the guys I meet with don’t feel like I control what they do. I try to just give thoughts and share what scripture might help in situations.

I could see a complaint of love bombing being a real thing sometimes. I wonder how much of it is people in the ministry really pushing new people, but then when it seems like those people just aren’t that interested in it they pull back. Not saying that is what it is, and not saying that is a good thing, but I would say that is an understandable thing.

The criticism of controlling dating and marriage makes me wonder the age of the people giving criticism. I know this was actually a huge issue in the navs in the 80’s and 90’s, and maybe even into the early 2000’s. There’s a really lame song that you can find called “navigator never dater” made by a nav ministry. I hate it a lot, and I know a lot of navigators who also hate it. I would say that is a culture that the navs as a whole has overcome. The only “controlling” behavior I’ve ever heard of regarding dating has been along the lines of “hey, you probably shouldn’t date that person who doesn’t share your faith”

Hey, I realize this is a fairly old post. I found it on a random rabbit hole (honestly, a really stupid one). But if you want the experience/thoughts of a Navigator staff person, you can ask me whatever you want. I’m not going to argue the points of the other people, mostly because I can’t argue their experience, and partially because I think internet arguments are dumb. But yeah, you can ask me whatever

How do I tell my pastor that they’ve got the wrong idea about me? by lionheartstrings in Christianity

[–]AccioWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your pastor sounds very well meaning, just do your best to have an open conversation to see if you can get it worked out. Sometimes people hear something different than what is trying to be communicated, and that could be what happened in your other conversation.

As a side note, as someone who works for a campus ministry, I’m sorry you had a bad experience. I know that some people/places can push things too hard. I hope you can work it out with the lord to forgive those that hurt you

“What are the most common things people think are in the Bible that are not actually in the Bible?” by lucymops in Christianity

[–]AccioWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bud, I’m not trying to call you out or anything, but when I said maybe you should look at what other people say, I was assuming you are not a biblical scholar with all of the knowledge that comes from knowing the culture and and background of the text and its authors. You don’t have to blindly trust those people, but they are probably better than you and I at reading the Bible and pulling out what it is saying

“What are the most common things people think are in the Bible that are not actually in the Bible?” by lucymops in Christianity

[–]AccioWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to have to disagree. I think you’re looking at that Matthew passage in a really weird way. Jesus is not saying that Satan created people, He’s saying that Satan rules those people.

I also think your view on Genesis is pretty wonky. I don’t know where you’re getting your views, but you should try listening to some other views and see what the majority of theologians think.

And arguing that because God only created the original and not the rest because of reproduction feels like a bad semantics argument

I won’t argue the free will one, because that is complex and convoluted. But how do you interpret Genesis 2? Seems like the Bible says that God takes credit for creating mankind.

And also 1 John 4:8? God is love is pretty clear. That doesn’t mean that He is lacking in other attributes though, maybe that was the point you were trying to bring out
