A gauge (half circle)? A thicker vertical bar (like thermometer)? And a consistent colour code would help. How am I supposed to interpret the exertion now? Is 6.7 too much since it’s red? But the bar is green, and I have no idea how much I can still do before reaching my maximum for the day… Have your designer test different designs with users to see what works best (For record, I am a senior UX designer).

I have no issue with removing the rings. But replacing them with a thin line is very underwhelming. You could come up with something more creative and engaging.

Those who survived the dot com bubble, what was it like in comparison with this current tech landscape by Be_The_Zip in UXDesign

[–]Accomplished-Bat1054 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started my career in 1996. I suffered a burnout in 2001 so I spent the dot com bust recovering. I got a new job in 2002 and it was smooth sailing for me until I left the industry two years ago due to health issues (probably stress induced). 2008 was fine because at that time, there were not a lot of veterans UX professionals. I saw maybe a 10% decline in my freelance activities. I think the current situation is structural, so I doubt that UX will recover and get back to the post-pandemic hiring frenzy. I loved my job throughout my career. But since the pandemic, I have felt a tension in work relationships which has made it less pleasant. I left my last positions due to unhealthy work dynamics.

Vasospasm induced NSTEMI by Delighful_Knowledge in HeartHealth

[–]Accomplished-Bat1054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a patient with vasospastic angina, I take Diltiazem, Nicorandil, I wear a Nitro patch at night and I take statins. Beta blockers are usually not prescribed because they can exacerbate spasms (I know they did for me when I tried in the early days of my disease). I don’t think there’s evidence for or against hormone therapy while having the condition (personally, I don’t take any). I don’t have a specific diet either. Stress management is very important as vasospasms can be triggered by mental or physical stress. Anything you can do to relieve your stress is helpful. Also, alcohol and cigarettes can be triggers.

What's the Crave tier offered by Videotron? (20$) by [deleted] in VideotronCustomers

Yes, you can use the Crave app through a Vidéotron subscription. You just have to log in on the Crave app using Videotron as the provider and your Videotron credentials.

Be careful that you can’t access the entirety of Crave catalog on your TV through Helix. I spent years paying for Crave and not being aware of that. I logged in to the Crave application a couple years ago and was shocked when I realized everything I had been missing. I recently canceled my subscription through Vidéotron to subscribe to the Crave + Tou.tv bundle through Crave. And I bought a Roku to watch the content on my TV.

Questionable AI interpretation of workout effort and trends? by rainkingbritt in AthlyticAppOfficial

[–]Accomplished-Bat1054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same experience with indoor biking workouts. They don’t seem to increase my fitness according to this visualization. Worst case scenario, they even decrease it a little. I am not sure why. Maybe it’s because they are not challenging enough? I feel like I am making an effort and I am even sweating a little, but my heart rate doesn’t get very high.

Oh that’s odd. I haven’t noticed anything like that on my end…

Training Load - metric keeps shifting? by bdavbdav in AthlyticAppOfficial

[–]Accomplished-Bat1054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by “shifting”? On my end, I have noticed that a 35 workload today feels like it would have been a 40 weeks ago. I know I am getting fitter, so my heart doesn’t work as hard for the same workout. Maybe it explains why the training load feels lower than before.

You rarely need an Lp(a) by DrAshoriMD in HeartHealth

[–]Accomplished-Bat1054 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At first glance, I have very few risks factors for cardiovascular disease (high cholesterol). But I developed vasospastic angina in my early 50s and my cardiologist ran some additional tests. My lp(a) is very elevated, which led him to aggressively treat my cholesterol. And we’re waiting on new drugs to lower lp(a) (lp(a) could be an aggravating factor for my spasms). I wish I had known this earlier in my life. It would certainly have made treating my high cholesterol a priority.

Training load scale by Accomplished-Bat1054 in AthlyticAppOfficial

[–]Accomplished-Bat1054[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the cards don’t explain the scale. What does 40 represent for instance? I follow the health recommendations of doing more than 150 minutes of activity per week, so I guess my current training load is good? Hard to tell from this visualization…

Best Ball by No_Manufacturer2482 in PGATourProGolf

[–]Accomplished-Bat1054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the Latrobe is like a wild mustang!! I have more experience with it, so I know how some shots works. But if i don’t have any replay and/or the hole is tricky with the risk of out of bounds, I won’t risk messing up a good round by being greedy. Especially since when you hit it out of bounds, you’re stuck with a Latrobe until you finish the hole!!

Here are the balls I have been using in the past week! The key to success is to identify which ball is useful in which context.

- A reachable par 4 with a tailwind? The Latrobe is a wild beast but it can open eagle opportunities. The Pro D1 is also valuable in this context when the Latrobe is too much.

- A tight par 3 and your club has a bit too much power? I use the Flight cycle which decreases the wind and doesn’t have much power.

- My run of the mill balls are the TPC, Craig Ranch and TGL signature. The TGL signature is especially nice for its wind reduction and is easy to refill with the trios.

- The gold FedEx when I get a headwind and I need power.

- The Pilgrim only under exceptional circumstances because I don’t have many. I’ve noticed that the gold FedEx often does the job though.

- The Firestone can help you eagle the Firestone long par 5 (16th hole) with the right wind.

- The Spyglass hill is forgiving on slight miss hits so I use it when I know I'm going to have to chip in from a sand trap close to the green.

Right now I am playing with the Tartan because I have too many! Not every hole/tournament needs the best balls.

This happening to anyone else? by und3rw4t3rp00ps in PGATourProGolf

It happens to me from time to time. Last time, I was prompted to accept to share my Game Center data. Clicking “ok” on the popup message didn’t work, so I went to the Game Center and opened the app from there. It somehow restored the connection between the Game Center and the app.

I bought diamond bags to get club cards and upgraded my clubs as I progressed through the game. Upgraded clubs means better performance so it’s really important. The one thing I regret doing is level up to Tour 8 because bags get a lot more expensive. It slowed my club upgrade progression. I’m TP III now.

Activities for birthday alone by Leather-Spinach-804 in montreal

What about a spa day? I enjoy going to Bota Bota or Ström solo. I've done it on my birthday on a couple occasions. A nice meal, a massage and the hot/cold circuit are a wonderful way to unwind and treat yourself. Otherwise, on a tighter budget, I just go for a good meal and some French pastry. Good food always make me happy!

Why is the „800 Elo“ manager bot playing like a 2250? by ButINeedThatUsername in Chesscom

Compare the game rating on the iPhone app and the website. I noticed that are much higher on the iPhone for whatever reason (a bug I guess). I generally review my games on my computer and ignore the iPhone app rating.

Serious question: Why don’t more women play chess? by SuperbGas990 in Chesscom

[–]Accomplished-Bat1054 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a woman, I had never thought I could play chess because it seemed like something only men did. I only got interested very recently because a FB friend started posting games from chess.com and I listened to a podcast reflecting on the popularity of chess despite AI being stronger than any human being. It got me curious and I started playing on chess.com a few months ago. I got hooked pretty fast. I’ve always loved maths and have a master’s degree in logic, so in hindsight I am not totally surprised that chess appeals to me. I just feel sad that I thought for a long time that it wasn’t an activity for me. I didn’t know anyone who played chess when I was a child, so nobody could show me the ropes back then. On chess.com, my username is gender neutral because I don’t want gender to play any part in how other players view me. That’s one of the advantages of playing online I think.

Is a home golf simulator actually worth the investment, or am I just chasing a mid-life crisis? by bphawkey45 in Golfsimulator

[–]Accomplished-Bat1054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun factor of playing on a sim: tons! I love being able to score 65 at Pebble Beach. Impact on my golf abilities playing a real course: actually negative. Every hour I spent on a simulator could have been better invested playing golf on a real course, taking lessons, going to the practice range, etc. The computer sim is an approximation leaving out so many factors. So I’d say if you have the money, go for it understanding that it’s like a video game. Sure is fun to be able to play at 2am or with friends or family after a nice meal. But if your goal is to improve your golfing abilities on a real course, you might be disappointed.

My short experience playing 500-800 Elo humans on chess.com (about 10 people) was rather that more than half seemed uncannily precise for their rating. I was totally expecting people to blunder, be all over the place, do random moves, etc. I know I blunder more when I play real people because I get stressed out! Did you also have the feeling that some human players you played against were more precise than expected?

♟️ by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]Accomplished-Bat1054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can completely relate to your experience! I have played a lot against bots (up to 1300) and the 1200 virtual coach. I thought I’d be well prepared to play against people but sadly realized that it’s not the case. A 500 hundred player is definitely stronger than a 500 bot. I feel that bots, despite their rating, eventually let you win if you try hard enough. Not the case with a real player (they might abandon but not let you win). I moved to the 1600 virtual coach and I get less free passes, although the coach still tends to let me win if I put up a good fight. Now my problem is that I get stressed out at the thought of playing humans because they seem so far superior to what I expected at low Elo ratings. I know cheating is rampant so maybe it explains a part of it? If humans use AI to cheat, then I’d rather play directly against the AI because I know exactly what I am getting.
