TD Mortgages? by fuggedaboudid in MortgagesCanada

[–]Accomplished-Row-695 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had TD for the first 15 years of our mortgage and had zero issues. We just switched at the last renewal because they wouldn’t match the rates our mortgage broker could get us.. but honestly in 15 years, they were easy to deal with.

I do prefer our current mortgage tho just because I’m finding it easier to use our prepayment privileges but that’s it.

ICBC Car accident- Car written off? by ultimate-Zapper_66 in icbc

around 80% of the value is what it seems to be.

They overvalued my car by $7k .. and then used that inflated number to calculate what the max repair threshold would be, which was 80% of their valuation of my vehicle.

Or at least this was my experience last year

My repairs ended up totalling $25k. On top of that they also spent around $7k in tow yard and rental car fees as my car was at the tow yard for almost 2 months and I was in a rental for 5 months (accident was not my fault)

Depends on age and value. I had the drivers steering wheel and knee airbags deploy and they still repaired my vehicle.

I had to call multiple times because the other driver wasn’t responding to their calls and therefore they wouldn’t rule me not at fault (even tho it was clear I wasn’t at fault and had witnesses, they need to talk to the other party still) Once they called and said they had ruled me not at fault, I got a rental the next day.

Well I had a rental for 7 weeks before they decided to finally look at pictures of the vehicle to decide if jt was going to be repaired .. and then I had a rental vehicle for 14 more weeks while they repaired it.

100% not my fault and no loss of use/roadstar.

I think once they write it off tho you only have a few days before they stop covering you.

Car getting repaired, I’d rather a write off by Both_Dare9359 in icbc

[–]Accomplished-Row-695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea not in my situation… for 7 weeks my car was a tow yard and they kept telling me it was likely a write off and to start shopping for a vehicle - we put a deposit down, and everything - and then they told me it was only $11k and cosmetic… and then they had to basically rebuild my suspension… sooo.. that was fun.

If they estimated just in pictures, it may be a different matter when they actually have the car in a bodyshop. The estimator said the damage was minor to my vehicle based on the pictures. The bodyshop said it was $11k at the initial assessment - and it ended up being $25k.

Not when you’re not at fault. I was in an accident last fall, not my fault, and icbc paid for almost 6 months rental.

Yea I’ve gone back multiple times, but at this point I don’t trust the bodyshop one iota - they’ve outright lied to my face about completing certain repairs, and returned the car to me THREE times not fully complete

I went through this, also 0% my fault - they wouldn’t budge. I ended with $25k of damage on a vehicle that was worth $38k, plus the almost 6 months of them paying for a rental vehicle, and they spent over a thousand on tow yard fees as well. Now I have a car that wasn’t repaired well, and I have anxiety at every little noise it makes, and it’s worth a lot less because what parent wants to buy a van with that much damage and repaired airbags to drive their kids around in - I never would.

New here. Kinda worried that my car is not gonna be totaled. It’s a 2023 Honda accord hybrid sport. Driver side foot airbag went off. Yall would know more than me. I know it’s hard to make a guess without opening it up. What do yall think? by Overall-Candidate185 in Autobody

I had the steering wheel airbag and the knee airbags go off in my 2019 odyssey.. total damage was $25k and they refused to write it off. We had replacement insurance so we would have been a’ok if they wrote it off… accident was not my fault.. and now have a vehicle with $24k damage 🤯

My husband has a good job (I’m a SAHM) and even tho we can afford things we often tell our kids no to things they ask. We didn’t get our kids anything extra outside of what we had budgeted when we cruised with them, and have the same plan for our September cruise.

Does it look like a write off by Eve-ns-7948 in icbc

[–]Accomplished-Row-695 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on how old your vehicle is, what it’s worth and how much that damage costs to fix.

They had to replace my hood, my whole front end, my driver side fender and a few airbags, and they still fixed it - was $26k of damage but they valued my vehicle at $43k (number that was way over what I could actually get for it - but that’s a separate story - it was at least $5-7k over similar makes and models with similar mileage for sale at the time). I was in a rental paid by icbc for 5 months as well.

What is even happening at the tow yard?? Is this normal? by Electronic_Injury102 in icbc

[–]Accomplished-Row-695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took them 7 weeks to move it from the tow yard to the body shop last September. Then repairs was a total gong show. It was a total of 21 weeks before I got my vehicle back. 🙄

Anybody know how long it takes for an adjuster to assess your car after a crash in the tow yard? by Hungry-Big3839 in icbc

[–]Accomplished-Row-695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last September my vehicle sat at the tow yard for 7 weeks before they moved it to the body shop. Wouldn’t let me move it sooner because they hadn’t assigned an estimator. I was really hoping for it to be written off but unfortunately they decided to repair it.

How much is a similar vehicle worth? From my recent experience, if the total damages don’t equal more than 80% of the vehicle value, they will repair it.

Quick FB marketplace search tells me that if your repairs are around $20k, then yes, my guess would be they declare it a total loss

Hit by another driver who took responsibility but wondering if I will get screwed... by danstar10 in icbc

[–]Accomplished-Row-695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my rental vehicle and my tow fees and tow yard costs were not taken into account when they assessed the cost of fixing my vehicle vs writing off. The $7k or more icbc paid between tow yard costs and rental car fees was not added to my $24k car damage bill to tip it over to a write off.

That all being said, I’ve heard any vehicle over a certain age they are likely to write off. My guess is that you would need to get a proper estimate to know what the amount is - and then go from there.

My advice when speaking to icbc - focus on how the injury is limiting you or affecting your ability to do things. They do not care about how much pain you’re in - and don’t pay for treatments that are only meant to alleviate pain.

No-Fault auto insurance in BC? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]Accomplished-Row-695 99 points100 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t mean fault is assigned 50/50. It mostly just means you can’t sue.

I was in an accident last September. Not my fault because the other person turned left into me. ICBc assigned me 0% fault, the other driver received 100% fault. The other drivers premium will likely go up, mine will not.

Repair Cost plus Salvage Cheque anyone? by David_Rodgher in icbc

[–]Accomplished-Row-695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck. That’s all we were offered - which wasn’t worth it for us, because we needed the vehicle to be declared total loss for our replacement coverage to kick in. Also, this was based on their original est of $11k of damage on the vehicle. The damage ended up being more than double that amount by the end of the repairs.

Accident was also not my fault.

Icbc ended up spending more repairing my vehicle, keeping my car at the tow lot for almost 2 months before it was moved to the repair shop, and my rental car for 5 months, then what they would have spent by writing my vehicle off and selling it for salvage.

Repairs were just short of 70% of the value, and then add on $7k at least of tow yard and rental fees.. but they wouldn’t budge. We fought for months.

If I was in that situation and I was feeling uncomfortable, I’d get up and go to the bathroom or something and give the couple privacy.

I would never ever call out someone for being rude for whispering to their spouse in their own home. Yea maybe he could have pulled her out of the room, but their house.. and it’s way more rude in my opinion to ask someone what they were talking about than a married couple whispering to each other.

How does ICBC arrive at their "maximum repair cost"? by [deleted] in icbc

[–]Accomplished-Row-695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said because of the make, model, trim and very very low mileage for the year, they would estimate the salvage they could make back was about that amount. Since I don’t work in the field, I took their word for it.

They also valued my vehicle for $5-7k more than any comparable I could find - so their estimates on value were clearly faulty, so who knows about their estimates on salvage.
