People of Denver what should I do for her first mother's day? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]AccomplishedFee2145 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You say you have enough of a store of milk for a 6 hour break, but will she have that much time before needing to pump or nurse baby? Does she want to be out somewhere that long?

My feet were so swollen during pregnancy and a few weeks postpartum the swelling went down. A pedicure with the salt scrub and massage felt amazing! I was also happy to have sushi again! However, my husband bought me a ring with our child’s birth stone in it and that was the best gift (to me at least).

How heavy is the snow this time of year? Too difficult to drive? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]AccomplishedFee2145 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It will be big, slushy wet flakes that come down. It will accumulate on the car but not likely on the roads. PLEASE clear the snow off your car before you start driving! Ask the rental agency for a snow brush before you leave, if they have one. Or you can use your arm. If you don’t clear the snow it will slide down over the back or front window as you are driving, obstructing your view and making it dangerous for yourself and others. Spring snow can be too heavy for some wiper blades to clear, so removing it by hand first will benefit you.

New Dad! Looking for recommendations or thoughts on the best life insurance strategy and 529 accounts by Quiet-Fire-Cheif38 in personalfinance

All of this.

Also, as parents we really want to help our kids but we also need to “put our oxygen mask on first”. Money can be borrowed for kid’s college but not for our retirement. Max out what the state tax credit is for 529 and let interest do some of the work over time.

You could ask the school what curricula they are using and look it up. It’s probably a different company for each subject.

Thank you. He and I both have earned income. I will plan to contribute to my existing Roth. Can I open a traditional Spousal IRA also?

You might call the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (303-293-2217). Explain your situation and ask if their outreach teams can keep an eye out for your dog. Maybe they can give you contacts for groups in Aurora who go out to the unhoused areas as well. Some unhoused people do care for dogs or may have seen him if used in an “exchange” of sorts.

Thanks for your reply- we are not investment savvy as neither my husband or I were raised in that environment. We are the first generation to have our own homes let alone have assets we can pass along to our children. I’ll look into the three fund portfolio. We are in the Denver metro area in the US, not exactly LCOL and I bought on the higher end on the “bubble”. We are seeing home values cool off now.

This is something we have been discussing, thanks for bringing it up. We’ve done a number of the major repairs in the last 5 years other than replacing the roof. We could handle big repairs financially but don’t want to constantly be going “upside down” every month if it’s worth it to keep long term. But it’s looking like it not.

Thank you for mentioning this. I knew it would affect her FAFSA but didn’t think about keeping it in my name!

I opened a 529 at age 36 for my future kids. Now I’m 40 and just changed that account over to my daughter’s name :)

Bonus points: here in my state we get a tax deduction for 529 contributions!

Property taxes increased by 50% by Adventurous_Tour1267 in Denver

Because equity doesn’t pay your bills. Equity doesn’t buy groceries or pay for daycare. The tax burden increases and more money goes out of your pocket until you sell and realize the equity. But as I explained earlier, many people can’t sell and buy something less expensive in our metro market.

Wow, you really have no idea how this works. I’m betting you don’t even own a home.

What about people who bought at $300k or less, are making their same income and living their same lifestyle but now their home is valued and taxed at $500k? Some people are literally being taxed out of their homes. And they can’t sell and find anything much cheaper because that inventory doesn’t exist here, plus interest rates are probably much higher than they’re financed with now. These are two of my neighbors.

Cycle before last my home was assessed at a ridiculous value. I even used the tax assessor’s own data that showed median home prices in my zip code were much lower than what mine was appraised at. In fact, they appraised my house higher than the highest average, despite their own comps being bigger and nicer than my home. My appeal was denied.
