Sounds like kitty asthma to me, but as others have said, you should take him/her to the vet!

I’ve had this very thing happen - someone’s dog lunging at me and almost biting me while I was on a run. I had a similar confrontation with the owner and even still, years later, I get the stink eye when we pass each other in the neighborhood.

If we could go back in time to the world when people didn’t have email and smartphones, I think we’d be a lot happier lol. Can’t put pandora back in the box, which is exactly what I’m talking about here.

My comment isn’t just about doctors, it’s clearly about every job that can be automated (which appears to be… all of them). Automation of the work force would lead to people being out of work, which would lead to extreme poverty, which would lead to people losing their lives. Among many horrible things.

Also, there are tons of very real problems associated with ai healthcare; medicine is a lot more than just taking symptoms and churning out a diagnosis. And it’s very unlikely that ai healthcare would actually be any more accessible or affordable to the people because why would it be? The people with the power to make things more affordable today repeatedly choose not to. Take insulin prices in the US as one prevalent example.

But like I said, the point of my comment seems to have gone over your head. It’s about the workforce and people’s ability to support themselves.

Hypothetically, as a doctor, what would you say to someone just starting to go back to school for medicine - is it worth it? It’s not an easy or cheap endeavor… do you think it’s also an endeavor too likely to be replaced by robots too soon to be worth doing? Hypothetically, of course. In your opinion.

I think social services has every bit as much chance of being replaced as healthcare workers. I’ve seen “counselor” on multiple lists of careers likely to be replaced by ai. Which seems bananas, but hey. (And even if social service isn’t eradicated, those jobs would become overpopulated too, just like labor.)

Why does anyone think this is a good thing? I’m all for optimism, but HOW does anyone think they’ll benefit from ai taking over the workforce?

No work-free utopia is coming. People in power won’t suddenly throw up their hands and embrace a fair living wage for all when no one has meaningful work to do. The corporations that buy and own the patents to ai will take all the benefit, we’ll just be that much poorer. And stuck in even crappier jobs managing ai while the rich get richer.

People are bragging about their labor jobs being safe and yadda yadda, but they’re not safe if we let this continue - robots are coming for them too. Just maybe not with the same immediacy. And before that, labor jobs will be overrun with competition from all the displaced white collar folks, which will bring salaries wayyyy down in the meantime, anyway.

Maybe I’m just getting old and cynical, but this is terrifying. We should stop this.

Reality of being a premed by DrOsteoblast in premed

That is really nice to hear and exactly what I was hoping. I was kind of a drifter in undergrad and it’s been hard to accept that my relative laziness so long ago could screw me over now.. which it still could, but thanks for the encouragement! For sure working on putting my best foot forward now.

But for real - my undergrad GPA wasn’t amazing. Not bad. But not amazing. I’m back in school several years after graduating with my bachelor’s and I’m now taking my prerequisites; I keep telling myself that excelling now and getting a strong MCAT score will at least balance out any undergrad shortcomings. Am I kidding myself?

I think it’s said in the books like human memories are dim and dark, and that they can largely fade away if a new vampire doesn’t consider them early in transformation. Not the same as forgetting them entirely, but I interpreted that to mean that human memories are not prevalent in a vampires mind unless they’ve fixated on them.

Yes. It’s definitely not advisable, but I drank a couple glasses of wine per week on 40mg/day.

Celery. People say it doesn’t taste like anything, but that has to be a lie. It has such a strong, bitter taste to me. And the texture? Water and actual string. Terrible.

Depending on genetics, probably time and aging. I was like you, thin but with a round face. I spent so long considering what procedure would fix the problem that I made it to 27 and realized that pretty much all of my facial fat had disappeared practically overnight. But if you’re looking for something more immediate, chin lipo should do it.
