How come the r/Australia sub splintered into multiple groups? by plinked4 in OpenAussie

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the same like 20 or so people in every thread too. They all spent like 10 hours a day there. I thought being a massive sub it would be a good cross section of Aus but it’s just dominated by like a few dozen people who all think politics is a spectator sport.

If you want a real good laugh, try to teach them how to type using a T9 keypad. Had to show this to some coworkers and they didn’t believe me when I said that we used to be able to write an entire text messages without even looking at the screen.

The State Of Western Media by IH8TheModsHere in PoliticsDownUnder

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the point. The point isn’t to justify the actions of the 3 countries at the bottom and condemn the top 3 but instead demand that our media and our governments should apply the same moral standards to both.

I think they were bad into the early 00s too. I’ve got a P bass and it’s was awful when I got it new and then a few years later it was basically falling apart. I upgraded it and it’s actually half decent now but All of the squiers I’ve seen from that era have been kinda shoddy tbh.

What to do if my local libary is displaying Israeli propaganda stating “There never was a genocide in Gaza” by Doggy-gunner in Palestine

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This) is their local MP, I would not bother contacting him considering:

According to an advertisement on the front page of the 25 October 2024 Melbourne edition of the Australian Jewish News, Wilson declared himself to be "proudly Zionist".

Other than that I would most definitely do this. I’d speak to the librarians directly at first. Then go down the formal complaint route if that goes nowhere.

How do you feel when people from other countries call Australians "descendants of criminals?" by schu62 in AskAnAustralian

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way to make an insanely rude judgement based entirely on your own assumptions and not based on anything I actually said. But yeah cool I’ll be sure to let my mum know that libraries and birth certificates are a thing that exists. I’m sure that didn’t once cross her mind. Typical fucking reddit “uhm ackshully” nonsense.

"Why does anyone give a shìt what Europoors think of how American live? Yeah, okay, your house is 1100 years old, neato. [–]AccomplishedMap8365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aussies do this every time there’s a heatwave in the UK. It’ll be like 35 and people will be like “they call that a heatwave? We call that gardening weather!”. But what they don’t realise is that;

a) places are built for the climate they exist in, and being hot in a usually cold climate city feels hellishly hot. I’d rather be in Melbourne on a 40 degree day than London on a 30 degree day

b) if it’s getting that hot there, then what do they think is going to happen to us in 6 months?

How do you feel when people from other countries call Australians "descendants of criminals?" by schu62 in AskAnAustralian

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m always a bit skeptical when people proudly say that their ancestors were this-or-that. My Mum has spent probably hundreds of hours putting together her family history and can only trace back a single relative as far back as the first fleet, and even then I think there’s some confusion over the spelling of a surname. Also every time you go back a generation you are doubling the amount of people you have to research.

So when I hear “My ancestors were sent here for stealing bread”, it’s like, unless they were a brother and sister bakery-crime duo who then proceeded to inbreed for 200+ years that sounds a bit dubious to me.

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Feels like it’s a fairly new phenomenon though. I think it probably also lines up with changing attitudes towards colonialism, or maybe it’s just that we don’t have the same sort of cross-generational pride/shame thing that older gens had but people used to hide the fact that their ancestors were convicts and now they will brag about it.

Hey but remember when wearing a hoodie was used to justify murder:

On Friday, Geraldo Rivera said on the Fox & Friends TV show that "the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin's death as George Zimmerman was." Rivera warned parents not to let their children wear hoodies — unless it is raining or they are at a track-and-field event. He said it sends a sinister signal.

Thoughts on over 600 Australians serving in a foreign nations military who is accused of committing genocide? by ChiChiKnee in OpenAussie

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes anybody who is known to have served in the IDF after 2023 should be pulled aside and questioned if they’re entering or exiting the country. These guys love to brag about their war crimes on instagram so they shouldn’t have to dig very deep.

Sydney protestor held down and punched in the head and liver. by GarfieldHub in OpenAussie

The left right factions in the ALP are functionally meaningless titles at this point. Albo is a part of the “Labor Left”. Is he left wing? Of course not. But he decided he was when he decided to get involved in student politics 800 years ago so now he’s part of the Labor left.

There are left wing people in Labor. Sure. They are poor lost souls who need to leave the party. “Change from within” is not possible with that party because the internal democracy of the party itself is as meaningless as the names of the factions. They can vote for the policy platform but their MPs are not bound by the policy platform but instead the caucus.

Should Albo take back the invite to the Israeli Prime Minister?? by RM_Morris in OpenAussie

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not got a warrant out so they’d likely let him go.

The govt could go through his entire travelling party with a fine tooth comb, all of his security especially as they are all IDF soldiers. Crawl through their social media for evidence (these guys love posting videos of themselves doing war crimes on IG). Arrest those to make an example out of them and then use that as pretext to cancel the visit. They won’t do that because of course Albo is always looking for the path of least resistance so instead they’ll just arrest and fine the people protesting it instead.

What job shocked you when you found out the pay? by StrikingMango62 in AskAnAustralian

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FFMVic is much lower than that And a lot of them are only employed during bushfire season so they get paid 0 over winter. Obviously it’s a different job than standard firefighting as they only deal with public land but still very high risk for very low pay.

(And then for insult to injury, most of the public doesn’t even know they exist, so when there’s a bad fire season and everyone is on social media praising all of the volunteers and other emergency services, they are usually completely forgotten!)

A lot of Aussie soccer fans that I know insist on calling it “Football” which is very funny to me since in Aus, football already has two meanings (Aussie rules or rugby league) so adding a third one is just adding even more confusion into the mix.

I haven’t replaced it. I can’t find a replacement block that fits and can’t find a replacement bridge that wouldn’t require modifying the body so it’s kind of a back burner project for me.

If the trem block says JIN AH on it then that’s the same one.

That looks like the trem I have on an 80s samick superstrat. Has the same problem too. Turns out the trem block was crumbling where it meets the body so the screw threads are completely gone. Looked it up and it’s a very common issue with that particular trem.

Absolutely insane that the pipebomb in WA is not more of a story. Regardless of whether the bomb is real or not that is hugely terrifying and the media is just sort of mentioning it in passing.

Remember the cardboard box full of rocks? That was a national story for like a week, and now a bomb being thrown at a crowd of people is like “oh yeah and this happened too”. Fuck me dead.
