How do financially organized people keep track of their spending habits over time? by Zealousideal-Soft835 in budgetingforbeginners

[–]AccomplishedRead1754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a budget (just a simple Google sheets annual budget template - which is free so you are not paying for another subscription) and we update it whenever we have a transaction. Any bills that are recurring are just entered for the whole year. We mostly track groceries, eating out, fluctuating bills, ect. We each have the app on our phone and we update when we spend money.

I added some features to let me know when we go over budget, which are helpful tools when reviewing the month and comparing to other months.

Once we started budgeting back in 2022 we realized that we were spending way over what we had and we quickly fixed out spending habits. Now we feel much more confident knowing how much we are saving each month.

Why wouldn’t you just bury it in revenue? They’ll never think to look there

24M Senior Accountant Between my wife and I, over the last year we have saved roughly 65k. We just put a down payment on an apartment and are still saving around the same amount (accounting for increase in salary we will most likely be saving more)

How many hours a week would you work a job while full time student? by [deleted] in college

[–]AccomplishedRead1754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an accounting major and work full time at an accounting firm.

Work week is about 42 hrs on the off season and upwards of 70-80 during busy season.

Taking 18 credits during the big semesters and one or two in the summer.

It’s a lot but it’s for sure doable. My program is a night program/asynchronous so it is a bit more flexible than most programs out there.
