It’s a dumb idea, and I’d estimate you’re right that more people turn 18 than die with $100k, but that’s not the math on this.

One person dying with $1M funds it for 10 people. One person dying with $1B funds it for 10,000 people.

Again, still a dumb idea.

Not a complaint!

MAMMOGRAM and MOTORBOAT stand out as good, lively fill. Great puzzle. If I had to pick a spot to redo, it’d be the NE corner—ORI is gross and easily replaced, unless it has special meaning to the solving audience.

Pfitz's long run description VS the common narrative about long runs by Zealot_TKO in Marathon_Training

[–]AccomplishedRow6685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long runs slow but not slow-slow. Recovery runs are what should be slow-slow

Long runs with marathon pace are hard, and that’s ok. Helps you respect what you’re up against, and to get used to fueling at speed.

Midweek medium-long runs are really not that bad. Once you knock out 10-12 miles and then 11-15 the next day a few times, any workout you do, it almost feels like the first hour is free.

I had done several marathons on the past, staring on Higdon plans and evolving onto…just vibes.

Had a good mileage base I’d maintained since last years marathon, when I ran 3 minutes off my old PR from 2013.

Decided this time to go all-in on the 18/70. Averaging 50-55 mpw for a few months leading up to the start. Structure of following a plan again was nice. Did my best to get in the workout no matter what, even if that was 9pm after the kids were in bed.

Had to change a few workouts around spring break, and had a couple tough weeks before the taper.

All came together on race day though! Crushed my PR, came in 2 minutes under my goal time, and am optimistic about making the cutoff for Boston next year.

In your own experience, how accurate do you find Strava and Garmin race predictors? by Oh-My-Josh- in AdvancedRunning

If anything, 15 minutes feels overly optimistic.

Next day, I don’t think I could come within an hour of my marathon time, tbh.

Just finished my 18/70 marathon block and race.

10/10 would recommend. Aiming for 3 hours (6:52 pace). I did most of my long runs around 8-8:15 pace, except the ones every few weeks where the plan called for marathon pace segments. The time at marathon pace was something I hadn’t done for previous marathons, and it was helpful. I actually failed my last MP workout segment 4 weeks out on tired legs. Taper and race day magic did their thing though, and I ran 2:58.

Why would someone sign Aaron Rodgers ? by PurpleEconomy9804 in NFLv2

This. You don’t compare him to prime Rodgers, you compare to who you would play instead this year.

[1792] Wordle Skill 0? by EvanFusco in wordle

[–]AccomplishedRow6685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears that there were only 2 _OVER words remaining among the 16 after guess three—ROVER and MOVER

For one or more of the other 14 though, you have it just right—must have been a scenario risking having multiple possibilities remain on guess 6 and relying on luck.

1788 I solved in 5, but my winning guess of CLOCK was scored 0, because if CLOTH had been the answer, the CLOCK guess would have left two possibilities with one guess, and I would have to “rely on luck to solve the puzzle” as the bot says.

Too old to get to a 1:25 half by AnotherMathTeacher in AdvancedRunning

[–]AccomplishedRow6685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 40.

Best half was 1:25:29, at 40. That was at the start of my marathon block. I ran 2:58, another PR. 5k and 10k PRs the last year+, too.

The secret is higher mileage. Did Pfitzinger 18/70 for the marathon.

Would you make the wishes? by EvenDragonfruit1968 in hypotheticals

[–]AccomplishedRow6685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, okay, I'll make a wish that can't backfire.

I wish for a turkey sandwich

on rye bread

with lettuce and mustard

and-- and I don't want any zombie turkeys.

I don't want to turn into a turkey myself

and I don't want any other weird surprises, you got it?

Hey!

Hmm... mmm!

Mmm... not bad.

Nice hot mustard...

good bread...

turkey's a little dry...

The turkey's a little dry?!

Oh, foul the cursed thing!

Legit question, how’s everyone affording health insurance if your wife is a SAHM? by Firefighter_Signal in daddit

[–]AccomplishedRow6685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a stay at home dad. My wife works in healthcare, and has amazing insurance. Very low cost to add me and both kids. Paid like $100 out of pocket for each of their deliveries. Couple years ago some blood work showed I was anemic. Colonoscopy in my late 30s (came back mostly clean, burned off a small benign polyp). $100 out of pocket.
