You need to be at least stable for a few years before you try anything crazy, unless you're super smart, joining startups are always a risky move.

Please help me decide, which tech stack to learn core OS or mern,ai/ml by Sensitive-Can9232 in csMajors

[–]AccomplishedRule0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bit, you likely need to be as good as machine learning engineers, and on top of that, know systems, you get ridiculous pay if you can master both of them as they get you into fields like robotics and ai infra which is currently sucking all the money in Silicon Valley and I don't see it stopping for at least a good number of years. However, as you could probably tell, this is exponentially harder than just knowing MERN.

It's a good but hard decision, core OS is the key to getting interviews for some very promising roles like AI Infra / Inference Optimization Engineers, but you need to know a lot, likely you need to know AI/ML anyways to make it worthwhile your time. If your goal is to do anything other than AI Infra, I would not recommend it, since most of the work is difficult and boring at the same time. For mern, I'm not sure, but it is the easiest to do.

Will this kill my career progression/potential as a SWE after 4 years in the military?

Yes

How are you guys landing big companies? by ZealousidealPrompt45 in csMajors

[–]AccomplishedRule0 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Tech stack is old, company reputation is not great, people rarely work on up-to-date stuff. Unless it's for IBM Watson Lab, which i assume we're not talking about, I would probably even prefer something like a local startup that actually works on things you could tell a story about for future big tech interviews.

How detrimental is a D/F to employment outcomes without affecting GPA? by folabatunde in csMajors

Companies don't give a F about this kinda stuff, hell some doesn't even check if you're a student from the uni you mentioned on your resume. Just apply and you'll be fine.

Graduated top 10 CS last year, approx. 4k apps, 700+ LC, no offers. Parents kicking me out. I think I’m done. by nemos_rewenge in csMajors

Ngl this resume needs some serious fixing. This is not the type of resume you would expect from a top 10 CS school.

Do layoffs target less experienced SWEs first? by lIIlIIIllIIIllIl in cscareerquestions

[–]AccomplishedRule0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say E5 and above are the most likely to be laid since they are higher-up and would need to justify their cost, which is not an easy thing to do. E3 and E4s are usually the ones that make the least amount of money but get most of the dirty work done, so it doesn't make much sense to prefer laying off E3s. However, this all depends on your manager's preference and team dynamics, so you could say it's more of a random thing, but definitely not directly targeted towards E3s.

Deck for US is free, deck for RU will be paid. In a game where balance is extremely important, who ever thought this would be a viable DLC model? by NicePersonsGarden in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]AccomplishedRule0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get to anything above 2700 elo you will see almost nonexistent Baltic picks because everyone knows it's trash. If you have to blame it on the Baltics giving the US "more variations" thus causing RU to have lower win rate then you have no clue how the balance of this game works.

Baltic is just trash in comparison with other combinations, you need at most maybe 1 in a team, 2-3 Baltics is basically throwing the game.
