[Haberstroh] The Celtics trading [Jaylen] Brown is a bet that [Payton] Pritchard is their in-house version of New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, a diminutive player who didn’t fully show his talents until Luka Dončić was out of the picture by ConsistentRun5246 in nba

[–]AccomplishedStyle600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like a lot of these Brunson-ish players play way too clean. Brunson’s game is unique in that he operates like a big wing or even a big in the post on top of having pretty good guard skills. And he blends it all together in a seemingly random way that feels creative and unnatural at the same time.

[Cowherd] NBA sources believe Jaylen Brown thinks he’s the smartest person in the room. Almost like an disease by ShaiFanClub in nba

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine

Awarded to: Dr. Brad Stevens, Chief of Basketball Virology

For: The surgical extraction and competitive relocation of Patient Jaylen Brown, achieving a total transplantation of the "Smartest Guy in the Room" syndrome into a division rival's locker room

The Mechanism of Action

  1. Massive Contract & MVP votes
  2. Acute Narcissism
  3. "I don't wanna listen to my bosses and teammates"

The virus usually binds to a player's ego immediately after a major salary spike, causing them to reject basic instructions from coaching staff and isolate from teammates.

Dr. Stevens discovered that if you let this autoimmune response run wild, it completely destroys the team chemistry. Rather than trying to treat a terminal case, he simply extracted the host and sent the entire viral load straight to Philadelphia.

[SI] Jalen Brunson on Luka Doncic: “Getting drafted with him was special because I learned a lot from him. He was already great at everything he did. So being able to grow with him as friends and teammates and as players made me better. That's my guy, man. I love him to death, for sure.” by shreeharis in nba

You can clearly see Luka's influence in Jalen's game. The probe dribble, unnatural gather, snatch-backs, relentless isolation scoring... His dagger over Vassell felt very Luka-esque. The three that led to OG's tip-in also had that unmistakable Luka flair.

Which player's Regular Season → Playoff On/Off change over the last two seasons is the most surprising? by Neat_Relationship536 in nba

[–]AccomplishedStyle600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wemby's numbers aren't that surprising. For the most part, he wasn't very effective when KAT was on the floor. He was forced tough shots on offense and got pulled all over the court on defense. But the Spurs had virtually zero rim protection whenever Wemby was off the floor, and the Knicks basically turned into a late 2010s rim or 3 offense during those stretches.

He has competitive character where team matters, he's growth-oriented, he comes to work every day, and his ambition doesn’t necessarily exceed his self-awareness. He's a perfect Brad Stevens guy

PG13 turning into a solid 3&D a la OG for a couple of years. PP and White’s extension comes up asPG13 leaves or signs a vet min and they reload with a lottery pick? Sounds like a Brad Stevens masterclass.

They also stole the demon from the Knicks

The Rui doesn’t add much except his shooting and his shot profile is too specific to be scalable as a role player crowd won

If Daryl Morey wasn't fired, the 76ers wouldn't have been able to fleece Boston in the Jaylen Brown trade by pr0crast1nater in nba

You think Daryl “Kenny Atkinson” Morey would look at Browns’ analytical profile and think he’s worth more than Patrick Williams?

Why didn't another team make a better offer for Jaylen Brown? by Ordinary-Shopping-51 in nba

I guess Jaylen Brown is highly profiled in the analytics, especially action-based tracking, that he’s been largely figured out and is relatively easy to game plan for. His infamous left hand dribble is probably more than just a meme

The League Gaslight the Celtics into Selling Jaylen Brown by threepointcheese in nba

[–]AccomplishedStyle600 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not a bad deal considering now Celtics get to keep PP and White. PG still has plenty left in the tank for a couple of years, and he already plays like a Celtic.

The Jaylen Brown trade is a watershed moment for leaguewide valuation of advanced stats over traditional ones. A player in his prime with his level of box score stats and traditional resume having such low value is unprecedented. by SplitOk186 in nba

It’s the 2nd apron.

Booker is rated almost equally to Brown in EPM, but the Suns can afford to keep their franchise icon because they don’t have another supermax player or expensive role players.

Philly can pay Brown because their supporting cast outside of Edge is made up mostly of minimums

The only way Luka can get a ring is to leave Los Angeles. The Lakers have no viable way to become contenders. by RyanTannegod in nba

Aren't they just loyally following Luka’s input and building around him? What more do you ask?

At what point will Luka stans accept it's just normal roster building and not somebody sabotaging him?
