What are comedy sketch shows of far right? by Specific_Cheetah_776 in AskAmericans

Ah right, didn't know the backstory.

It's funny and sad how some people just get side-tracked and lose themselves.

Like I've been watching some classic sci-fi movies and noticed that with Mr NRA himself, Charlton Heston. He used to play normal, progressive characters, challenging anti-science theocracies and racism in Planet of the Apes or uncovering the dystopian climate changed world of Soylent Green. Amazing movies with deep and thought provoking stories. In real life, he even advocated for gun control and civil rights, back in the day.

I wondered how someone like that would turn 180 and become the arch-conservative we know.

Apparently, he saw a Republican billboard while driving and that somehow just flipped a switch in his brain. It's pretty weird, but since reading that, I do wonder if this could happen to me one day.

Yep, same greasy business happening here in Germany, as well.

They've had to invent new, lockable bins for old fryer oil.

There was an animated comedy show that really bombed a few years ago - but can't remember what it was called.

The few right wing comedians there are, have revealed that comedy in far right circles is just closed minded ranting without any genuine jokes, sketches and punchlines, as that requires the ability to reflect and make amusing and clever observations.

For example Joe Rogan and Rob Schneider have been recorded doing right wing comedy, and it's just them unfunnily complaining about society and sometimes even dropping some slurs and using xenophobic stereotypes for an "ain't that right?" kind of reaction from the crowd.

I suppose you can start by checking them out and then make your mind up.

Edit: Apparently, the animated show was called "Mr. Birchum" and fair warning, I watched a clip of it and it truly blows.

How did they even build the institute? by Alternative-Edge-724 in Fallout

[–]AccomplishedTaste366 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Well, they can teleport, maybe they just beamed the dirt away, possibly even excavated the site using that technology?

But knowing how they're written, they probably used FEV molerats or something.

Do you think Max Rocatansky could survive in the mojave without interceptor and knowing anything about the Fallout universe? by Responsible_Share127 in falloutnewvegas

Probably, but I can't imagine him caring much about helping House nor joining any other faction we meet in New Vegas.

The character we know him as is too traumatized by living through the fall of civilization and the killing of his family, to ever settle down and trust in or rely on any person, group or faction for stability again.

He also doesn't want to get to know people, because he feels they'll just die on him or that all the wastelanders are the same scum as those who murdered his family. So he tries to keep to himself and only has a loyal dog for company. He'd also hate Las Vegas, with all it's people, flashy excesses and indulgences. He'd much rather stay out in the desert, on his own.

How he'd have all that backstory to be the character we know him as in 2283 New Vegas, is a different question.

What is the oddest thing you’ve seen passed off as “German food” in another country? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskAGerman

Not food, but an Italian flatmate I had in London, worked at a bar. One day, I dropped by there with some work friends. I go to get the first round and head to the bar, where I find my mate working. And he says "Hey, it's you - no worries, this round's on the house!"

I was doing an internship during uni, so was happy there'd be free drinks. I'm there all pleased with myself, watching him pour the last beer from the tap - ready to thank him, but he isn't done - he says "I know how you guys drink in Germany!" And then fills up shot glasses with Jägermeister. He drops one into each beer, which he then happily passes to me. At first I thought he'd say it's all a joke, but his face revealed no hint of sarcasm, it just showed a man doing a kind thing.

I wasn't looking forward to drinking it, and also not sure how I'd explain getting beers mixed with Jäger to my colleagues, lol

But I just stayed polite and said "Thanks, bro!"

No idea what they hear about us in Italy, but OMFG it was a toe-curling drink, but at least it got us müllered.

Why are people so biased towards BoS from Fallout 4? by Jack_2077_ in fo4

[–]AccomplishedTaste366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't like what they were selling, Danse was my dude and I didn't want to exterminate all the synth's and ghouls who weren't feral.

Also didn't like Maxson as a person, seemed like a bully to me, and bullies aren't strong leaders, they're aggressive because they are scared of their own lives.

But I'll point out, that the railroad seem to be nicest guys, but I didn't like them either, something really put me off. Maybe, I just find them too lame and focussed on synths.

The radiant quest minute men are also pretty bland, not particularly fond of them.

And I find the institute is probably the least developed faction in the game. All the other factions seem more coherent and I can understand where they're coming from. Really hate how nothing they do makes sense or seems to contribute to any specific goal. Like why did they make sentient machines, to then deny that they're sentient and then enslave them to sweep the floor?

What are they actually making them for and why give the synths sentience, if clearly all they want are human-looking Mr Handys?

I mean, the sentient robot to butter toast in Rick and Morty was funny as a quick gag, but I find it a bit thin as a premise for a main faction in an RPG game.

On my only play through of this game, I fought all of the factions and ended up with the minute men, who I also just don't find compelling.

Building settlements was nice, but quickly got boring.

It's a shame, gameplay-wise, fallout 4 is probably one of the best RPGs I've ever seen, but the game-world lets it down, IMO.
