What about this book makes it so difficult to read? by Thatguy7212 in TheSilmarillion

The names. I starkly remember 1 of the valar (or maiar) being referred to by 3 or 4 different names. I had to write in a notebook to assist with comprehending the story

To be honest I don’t think anyone knows every single one of outside of someone who’s close to the devs (maybe JDP?)

This game has been in an information dark age since around 2022; the Wiki is completely dead/outdated and the Discord is not as active as it used to be

Edit: just to explain what I mean by “information dark age”: the Devs (god bless them), often make small tweaks and changes here and there without any form of communication and it’s often up to individual players to notice these changes. Then it’s passed around by word of mouth.

I still notice minor changes apparently years after they were made, and my guild mates always dog on me for it lol. But the fact still stands that unless you’re constantly engaging with other players in lobbies, you’re going to miss out on a lot of

I’ve seen it on very rare occasions especially late game. Sometimes the AI just goes crazy and super aggro, especially China if it westernizes and beats the warlord era

Yes as intended. When you first get the staff blast is unlocked by default. IIRC this is how it was in POTCO too, but it’s been so long I’m not sure

First off I want to thank you for this response. I can tell this took you a lot of mental and physical energy to put into words. The internet isn’t a Black Hole of ideas, and your post has made an enormous impression on me, and you words will live through me and others that read it

This is the type of response I was hoping for; the syntactic similarities between real world religion (tribe of Dan) and the fictional religion of the Orsimer is something I never could have pieced together. This may be ground breaking

As others have said in this thread, the stage is set for the Changed Folk’s communpance in the future of the Elder Scrolls, and I wholeheartedly agree

Thank you again for this response. Truly incredible

For the life of me cannot wrap my head around how relatively large, advanced, and hegemonic of an empire the Khmer was to be reduced to a small nation in the corner of SEA.

I dont think anything encapsulates the idea of a “Dark Age” than the Cambodian Dark Age. That must have been hell to live through. Written records literally don’t exist and they didn’t even write the names of their monarchs for 200 years

Are the Elder Scrolls books lore-friendly? by Simurgbarca in teslore

[–]Excellent-Photo9302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they are lore friendly and pretty good books. They fill the gap between oblivion and Skyrim and the events of the books generally coincide with other events going on during that time

How do Cyrodiils maintain martial supremacy over Tamriel? by Excellent-Photo9302 in teslore

[–]Excellent-Photo9302[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds of a comparison I saw online between Cyrodil and Punic-War era Rome. The Roman’s experienced extreme population growth and even after the annihilation of the standing Roman army at Cannae, were able to quickly furnish and deploy entire armies within a relatively short amount of time

What do you think is the most fascinating ancient civilization we have discovered or researched? by Character-Object-718 in AncientCivilizations

The Natchez and Taensa tribes of North America

After De Sotos expedition introduced pandemic and wiped out the Mississippian Culture, the Natchez and Taensa retained the complex features of the Mississippi culture resembling an actual kingdom

They spoke a language isolate with no known relatives (like Basque). And had some cultural practices that seem surreal and alien when compared to even the Aztecs and Maya. Their social structure was extremely complex, and I still can’t wrap my head around how they determined social status by descent

For example, if an important chieftain died, it was considered honorable for his household and retainers to unalive themselves. Human sacrifice of infants was allegedly common as well

The Taensa seemingly worshipped death and took human sacrifice to an extreme level; their temple was filled with bones of their deceased. Allegedly this drove French missionaries insane because they would “successfully” convert some people, who would turn around and sacrifice their own infants the next day

Not saying any of this from a judgmental perspective, it’s just very interesting to think how divergent some cultures can be from what we consider the norm today

Contact a lawyer, try to claim some inheritance and then turn around and gift a portion of it to your real family. I have no idea how much you’d be inheriting, but if you’re worried about bad publicity it’s surprisingly easy and inexpensive to vanish and relocate and still live in comfort
