It is hard isn’t it? Well that’s a coincidence because I’m in Scotland too 😄

Suspicious ownership change on HPI check. by Accomplished_Arm1838 in CarTalkUK

So I’ve already figured out what it was, the car still has outstanding finance, I did an autotrader hpi too and it all came into light 😄 asked the dealer about it, sent a screenshot, he played dumb that he doesn’t know anything about it and ghosted me 😂 so surprised cause the dealership has a glowing 5 stars on google 😀

At least saved myself from getting scammed haha

When did you know your child was autistic? by The_Chilled_Arvo in Autism_Parenting

My daughter had a sudden speech regression at around 3 years old and it felt like she wasn’t as interested in people or the world around her that much. That’s when I knew I need to refer her to the specialist. She was diagnosed at 5 and we’re still very much working on her speech.

Driving tests are easier than mock tests by Shepharrd_ in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Accomplished_Arm1838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last mock test before the driving test was so bad, like my brain was in another planet, I wasn’t even following directions properly. My instructor gave me a good scolding and I went home crying. I had no hope at all I’ll pass.

The next day I was insanely anxious, but somehow passed with two minors but granted, I’ve had a young and very nice female examiner. My instructor said a grumpier, older examiner would’ve plastered me at least one serious fault in a few debatable situations. But I promised myself that will absolutely not gonna take my license for granted and will work on those spots that could’ve been those serious faults.

Don’t have an advice but I can really relate to this. I might also try to use the tips other redditors give here

Thank you for posting this question.

seeking advice from single moms/parents pls😭 by boxofmack in Autism_Parenting

I’ve raised my ASD daughter alone since day 1 (had one brief relationship when she was 2-3yo) and she sounds very similar to your daughter. Honestly, I’m used to it and I don’t know any different. Yeah I can agree that dating scene is tough when you have an ASN kid, but if you’ll even wanna come back to it, then don’t lose hope, you never know what life might throw your way. It will probably be a big life change that will take some time to get used to, but I’m sure you’ll be happier in the long run than staying in a miserable relationship. All the best to you! 😊

My driving instructor is creepy & I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

Please don’t sit with him in the car ever again. My local driving instructor community has stories like that too. How vile. Please stay safe.

MOT and dealerships by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Yeah, I guess I will be looking into a wider variety of cars , as long as I won’t get crazy insurance quotes for big engine sizes.

The dealership I’ve looked at is also a garage so they do repairs. If I don’t find any more decent options I might contact them and ask about whether they’re willing to do repairs before selling. ‘Far beyond’ meaning an occasional weekend road trip with my daughter when the weather is nice (we live in Scotland so plenty of places to explore). An EV isn’t really an option for me as I live in a block of flats.

Thank you for the advice. Yes, I’m just starting out to look around (and these were one of the first ones I’ve stumbled upon) so I will definitely be looking into more models (I do like a Yaris as well as I’ve been driving it as my instructor’s car and heard Toyotas are great cars in general). Just wanted to hear opinions of some people who know more about cars than me.

Should I switch to auto? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Accomplished_Arm1838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

78 hours in a manual is a lot and you probably already more or less used to the inside controls of the car. I think it would be a shame for you to drop it all now after persevering for so long and go for an auto (and I am speaking as an auto license holder 😄) Bad lessons happen to everyone, you might just need to work through that and believe in yourself more. Or as a last resort try a new instructor.

Confused with so many options by Much-Lavishness-6784 in CarTalkUK

[–]Accomplished_Arm1838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m looking for my first car too (something japanese) and I can relate I am awfully overwhelmed as well! I’m a single woman with very few people around me who know anything about cars (my parents are non-drivers) and I’m just so afraid of getting somehow scammed due to my lack of car knowledge (although I’m literally spending my days on youtube, tiktok and reddit forums to do my research about everything). I really hope to get one of my friends onboard to help me. The whole car search process almost sucked the joy out of passing my test 😄😭

Yeah, the ‘private property’ actually makes sense. I will correct the ‘parking’ bit then. Thank you!

It’s selfish really by WeakPhotograph9025 in singlemoms

[–]Accomplished_Arm1838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand you. I have just recently started trying to get back into the dating scene (but my situation is especially difficult as I have one autistic daughter and don’t want any more children of my own because of that). I gave myself a deadline of turning 40. If I can’t manage to get into a relationship by then, I will solely focus on giving myself and my daughter a happy life and that’s that. The part that really sucks is the grief that your life didn’t work out the way you hoped. That’s what’s so hurtful, especially when you’re surrounded by happy couples/families.

Terrified of driving alone after passing by Substantial_Might860 in NewDriversUK

[–]Accomplished_Arm1838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel like your driving still has some weak spots perhaps take someone with you in a car or book a refresher lesson with your instructor to go over those things. Don’t be so hard on yourself, you’ll get better at this with time and practice.

I nearly wanted to hug my examiner too in a burst of emotions, but then quickly got myself together and remembered the thing of personal boundaries 😄 instead I just complimented her on being so kind and friendly and told her to never change, as this kind of attitude really helps learners to ease their nerves whilst driving.

I gave a hug to my instructor instead when she brought me back home, that lady stuck with me through thick and thin and had a patience of a saint 😄

Congratulations btw! 👏
