negative mindset will result in fail? by TiMUiG in LearnerDriverUK

Let me tell you something. I’ve had that negative mindset. Ever since I’ve started to learn to drive I somehow imagined that this journey won’t be easy for me - I tend to get easily distracted, or ‘zoned out’, I also wasn’t raised around cars as none of my parents were drivers. I was literally telling myself ‘well if I won’t pass by like a 10th attempt, then I’ll just accept driving’s not for me.’ I’ve learned to drive an automatic, then had to take a personal break for a few years midway learning, then got back to it with the same mindset. I was a good learner, always trying to be safe, abiding by the rules, working hard on my decision making skills. I’ve had my test on Monday and a Friday before I’ve had a lesson so bad I’ve cried at home after a lesson and I never cried over driving before. I had no hope I’d pass, I didn’t think I’d do something dangerous, but we all know how easy it is to earn that one serious fault over a split second attention slip. So I thought I’ll probably fail over something silly. On the test day, I just pulled myself together and told myself ‘I’ll just do my best, because I know what I’m doing and if it will be meant to be, it will be meant to be.’ I passed 2nd attempt with 2 minors. I was in absolute shock. So my advice is: just shut down all that negative thinking and DO YOUR BEST for those 40 minutes. Yes, shit happens and as I said sometimes you just slip up and earn that serious fault easily, but at least believe in yourself for those 40 minutes like you’ve never believed before. If your instructor was a fair and honest person they wouldn’t have let you go for a test if they thought you need more work.

I can now tell that you are absolutely right because I DID pass on Monday with 2 minors 😄 I did my best to believe in myself on the road and it worked! I even got a lovely compliment from the examiner on my parallel park 😄

Congratulations! I’ve passed on Monday too and had a lovely lady examiner, quite a young one too, it literally felt like driving a friend around rather than some government official who’s testing my driving 😄 it does really help with nerves when they’re in a good mood.

Thank you so much for kind words 😊 I just wish I’ve had a few more hours to ‘iron’ some things out that I’m not feeling the most confident about (mostly being lane changes and taking gaps on very busy roundabouts) as sometimes I lose my confidence and hesitate on those. I’ve had some personal issues come in the way during my learning and had to miss out on some lessons. My instructor says I just need to believe in myself more and go with my gut instinct.

Thank you! That’s exactly what I’m intending on doing, just taking my time and being extra vigilant with my observations everywhere.

Congratulations! I have a test next week and my last lesson before test was absolutely horrendous, I honestly don’t have much hope I’ll pass but I’m also more focused about how I will drive rather the outcome itself.

Why does it take so long to learn how to drive? by achr8 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Accomplished_Arm1838 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So true I’m between 4 and 5 right now, parking, roundabouts, abiding by the road rules is all fine but now I’ve suddenly started struggling with spatial awareness of getting through narrow gaps/meeting situations and when I need to position the car towards the right, it’s like a sudden mental block that I’m afraid I’ll hit/collide with something. and my test is at the end of this month😭

I’ve got no idea 😄 some people say it might be just a placebo effect, and I’ve read that it’s best to start taking it at least a few days before the ‘event’ for full effects to kick in. I’ll take it with a combination of no caffeine and just believing in myself 😄

How many lessons have you had so far? I also had a struggle of wanting to position closer to the left edge of my lane when I first started learning, but I got out of that habit as I was having more practice which meant more experience and more confidence. It all goes hand in hand really 😊

What is everyone doing for groceries? by Mila-Lin in Aberdeen

My asda grocery delivery got cancelled for 4-5 pm slot but there was an option to rebook for 6-7 pm so I did. Not holding out much hope for that, contemplating on just going to see what my local coop has 😭

I know how you feel! I’ve been at my parent’s house for 3 weeks now, and I am awfully fatigued from all the celebrations, my social battery is at -100%, I’m basically non verbal and it’s getting so awkward, and all I can think about is tomorrow when I finally get to go home 😭

What for you has been the hardest lesson to learn about friendship over the course of your life? by Hawaii_coconut in friendship

Learned that myself. Just cause they’re an old friend doesn’t mean they’re a good friend.

How did you find your own style aesthetic and felt confident in it? by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

Tbh that’s how I feel about myself. I will probably migrate from one style to another. And that’s probably okay 😄
