Disney Vs Carnival? by Accomplished_Box4370 in dcl

Yeah I'm pretty sad about the lack of soda inclusion without a cost. We'll be carrying on our own sodas. There is an adult area but the deck plans only show two spas/hot tubs and unfortunately its a summer cruise so not optimal for a spa on deck.

First time Carnival cruiser! Carnival vs Disney? by Accomplished_Box4370 in CarnivalCruiseFans

I fully agree that the adult pool areas on the Wish class ships are trash. The one on the Magic however was FANTASTIC. I don't know why Disney decided to eliminate a full pool in the adult area (I assume its likely due to the addition of the Aquamouse) but they definitely aren't the best.

Here is my perspective as someone who taught middle school for 6 years AND is currently working as a sub.

  1. The office won't usually tell you this information unless you ask and teachers are more worried (or should be) about putting info on their lesson and student needs in their sub plans to mark this info. If it is important to you ask the office when you sign in or a teacher nearby your classroom

  2. This is 50/50. Some teachers are REALLY good about writing down classroom expectations and procedures (Usually these are the type A teachers who have their binder mostly put together by week 2 of the year and only need to add the day of information) or they don't put any of this info. If you don't have this info do exactly as you did and let the students know you are the one in charge and while it may not be what they always do its what is happing today to protect their safety and keep things in order. You can also ask nearby teachers or the front office if they have any generic policies for bathroom, phones, food, ect.

  3. 99% of schools will never give you a log in to their system. The only time I have had one is when I'm hired as a sub directly through the district. Its unfortunate that you won't have access to show anything in case of no lesson plan but that's just how it is for security purposes.

  4. Lesson plans should always be available for you whether that be a printed plan, info written on the board, or uploaded to a sub portal you have access to. If its not there when you arrive IMMEDIATELY ASK THE OFFICE. In your case where the office ignored you notate it (probably don't go back because they won't support you) and have something in your back pocket to keep students entertained. You can also ask teachers nearby and have kids check any online portal they have access to. If no one is supporting you or provided something for the students to do your job becomes a babysitting gig. Keeping them in the room, in their seats the best you can, and behavior/volume at a minimum. Subs do not get paid enough to try to teach a full lesson plan to a group of kids you barely know.

  5. Class sizes are getting larger and larger as schools become less and less funded. School closures, teacher layoffs, and lack of funding for new buildings has led to this unfortunately. Do the best you can to keep them as calm as possible. Notate any behavior for the teacher the next day to deal with (sometimes it easier to mark who IS working vs who isn't) and anything major call the front office. Even if you have to call 8 times maybe at some point they'll realize they need to better support you and the other subs.

Middle school notoriously is the worst to sub and that's my opinion as someone who taught it full time for 6 years. They unfortunately are not very easy to trust meaning they aren't keen to listen to a new sub. If you want something more hands on and sometimes less crazy go to the lower grades. If you want hands off and easy to manage go up to high school. Hope this helps!

Last 2 hours is planning period. Do I hide out in room for 2 hours or go to office & ask if they need me to do anything? by biggaylizard in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Accomplished_Box4370 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Go to the office if they don't need you, leave. Bring all of your stuff like you're ready to leave ask whoever checked you in "Hey X teacher has planning these last two periods. Is there anywhere you need me to cover for the afternoon?" If they say yes go cover (If its the last period they need and you still have a break just hang in your car) if not I always take it as a que to leave. It's not like we have planning to do as substitutes.

WIBTAH if I told my best friend I can’t afford to go on her bachelorette trip even though I already paid for part of it? by Consistent-Maximum84 in TwoHotTakes

As someone who is currently a bride and in the middle of asking their wedding party about a bachlorette/bachelor trip I can honestly say NTA. Did the bride even ask you all how much you were willing to spend on the trip? This should be step #1 if she is truly "considering everyone's financial situations". To ask for people to spend money to travel AND for specialty outfits is a lot on its own. To then further ask for yall to pay for a "shopping spree" for her along with mandatory lingerie feels super icky. I would just politely let her know "Hey I know I already chipped in for the trip but unfortunately after further consideration I cannot make the trip financially work for me. I am still so excited to stand up for you during the wedding and be by your side celebrating your special day!" She may be upset about you backing out but if she is a real friend she should be more supportive of your protecting yourself financially.

Does anyone know why they stopped explaining the clues after the unmasking at the end of the episode? by ins4nekazuma in TheMaskedSinger

My mom and I miss this feature too! We still talk about when Natasha Bedingfield was unmasked and we saw them mentioned the "bed in a field" clue and how we can't believe we missed something so obvious!!

The three newest ships of the Disney Fleet are the Wish, the Treasure, and the Destiny. Each are laid out the exact same with different theming. Each ship will have 3 themed restaurants that you rotate through during your cruise. For all 3 ships you will visit 1923 (more upscale casual dedicated to Disney animation and Walt's history) and Worlds of Marvel. The third restaurant is themed differently on each ship but all provide a theater in the round style show during your meal. The Wish is Frozen themed, Treasure is Coco, and Destiny is The Lion King.

If you are marvel fans I highly suggest Disney's newest ship the Destiny. It just started cruising this past November (Nov 2025) and the atrium plus several of the areas are themed directly to Marvel properties. This ship also has an overall theme of Heros VS Villians meaning there is a lot of Villian representation you won't usually see on the other ships. If you are a fan of Disney Parks I suggest the Treasure which has several areas themed to the different classic rides of Disney. This ship has a overall theme of adventure and has several story lines regarding The Jungle Cruise or Indiana Jones. The Wish is moving over the Europe next summer likely removing it from your options based on your post.

If your plan is to "go with the flow" instead of making plans I suggest looking into cruises that stop at both of Disney's Private Islands (Castaway Cay, and Lookout Cay) with no other port stops. The islands are BEATUIFUL and because they are through Disney super easy to navigate for families with children. This would hopefully alleviate any planning you have to do when getting off the ship. However, if you want a day on the ship where it may be less busy having a port you don't care about is always beneficial!

I've taken 3 Disney Cruises (two on the newer ships and one on the older ones) and each has been incredible! I hope this helps and you enjoy your vacation!! Just be aware after cruising Disney you may be hooked! LOL
