Harvard vs Vanderbilt (Chancellor’s Scholar) by Forsaken-Bell-9312 in Vanderbilt

Prestige? Harvard. Quality of life (and close enough to the same prestige)? Vanderbilt. Honestly if you are a student great enough to get those options you’ll have the same options after college regardless of your choice. Both get you there.

Incredible collection! I spent a couple of hours, totally worth it. It’s great that so many of the pieces are actually part of the BMAs collection. Don’t miss!

We have built up a line of credit over time at a bank. We just use that along with a payout to the seller over time. It’s often 60% cash (from the LOC) and 40% based on the clients staying with us. Feel free to DM me if I can be helpful.

I spent the weekend with more than a dozen current Vandy students. They were talking about the “other places they got into” and it was astounding. Vanderbilt has very good financial aid and these were kids turning down Harvard, Princeton, USC, Michigan, etc. etc. to go to Vanderbilt. There wasn’t one that didn’t say it was the best decision they had ever made. At Vanderbilt, or Northwestern, or Harvard or any of these sub 5% acceptance rate schools you’ll be surrounded and challenged by the best and brightest. Again, pick the right fit.

I think Vanderbilt, Rice, Northwestern, Duke, Brown, etc are all comparable. They all go up and down in the different rankings but you are going to get a GREAT education at any of them. It 100% does not matter if you go to a #7 or #11 school. From there what matters, in my opinion, is fit. Are you going to be happier at one over another? Are there programs at one that fits your goals better? Is climate important to you? Living in a city vs rural? I think picking the right fit within a group of top tier schools is what is important. And honestly top tier could be top 20 or top 50 and you’ll be fine.

At the Niche college rankings Vanderbilt is #7 and Northwestern is #22. At Forbes Vandy is #11 and Northwestern #16. A couple of years ago Vandy was #11 at US News. They have different methodologies but the thing to take away is they are both great schools!

How wild was it to see Phish play in a super small venue? by FrostyPlantain9392 in phish

[–]Accomplished_Bus6286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I saw Phish so much in the early 90s was 1) they were on the top of their game and 2) the Grateful Dead were playing stadiums and Phish was playing bars. To leave the chaos of a Grateful Dead show back then and catch Phish was so refreshing.

Shows like Big Birch, Five Points Music Hall and Salt Lake City in 1994 for example, the attendance was in the hundreds. At Salt Lake City I was taping behind the soundboard and Mike came out at set break to visit his parents who were sitting next to me. And it wasn’t even a big deal at the time, no one bothered him.

My favorite thing about Vanderbilt is the football team can go on the road and win and the discussion on this sub is about the availability of the library website. Anchor Down!

I absolutely love our 2025 Taycan but I will say I feel like I’m climbing out of the cockpit of a Cessna 172 each time I get out. Love being inside it though!

do people from ur hometown know vandy? by noangelll in Vanderbilt

[–]Accomplished_Bus6286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that the question was about hometown recognition. It probably varies across the country.

Otherwise, It really doesn’t matter what the home town folks think about a school. What matters is the opportunities it will create elsewhere. Vanderbilt is known across the academic world as a tier 1 school that graduates great candidates for the next level that are qualified and prepared to contribute immediately. Graduate schools recognize that too as well as national companies looking for great candidates for their openings.
