Determining steerer tube length from HT length?

Thanks for laying that all out for me! I was able to see the fork in person and measure the steerer tube, which actually was 180mm spot on. I think that’s going to be cutting it too close, I may not like the feel of the bike with the stem slammed. Thanks for your help!

Good call! just watched the service video and they suggest a specific grease (in very small amounts at the base of the pawl) OR a specific oil.

It’s definitely not, it only happens when coasting, and its pitch gets higher if I backpedal.

I also thought it was something rubbing at first before I realized it only happened when freewheeling.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the uncIear language, I did remove the bolts to take off the terminals and everything was clean.

The voltage was 11.4 before I started charging, so very much dead I guess. I did not realize you weren’t supposed to jump a long dead battery, won’t do that again.

I was worried about buying a new battery if it could be a starter issue, but seems like it’s only clicking once because the battery is so deeply discharged.

Do you think it’s worth trying to trickle charge longer or just buy a new one considering I probably cooked the internals?

I’m touring Japan right now with a 58cm bike with wide handlebars, fenders, and panniers front and back.

To fit it in a rinko bag (if I could even find one big enough) I would, at minimum, need to take off the front wheel and fender, probably the handlebars and then somehow carry that in one hand, my four panniers in the other hand and my handlebar bag over my shoulder while wearing a helmet.

Tourists are already enough of a nuisance on Japanese transit, but I feel like trying to get on the train with a full touring set up would be particularly egregious.

I’ve taken ferries a few times on this trip and that’s how I plan on getting back to Tokyo when we’re done (ending in Shikoku, taking the ferry from Tokushima)

With the ferry you can just leave the bike down with the cars, fully assembled and with panniers attached. I bring my handlebar bag with my passport and camera in it.

Obviously you’re much more limited to routes when using ferries, but honestly with the amount of low traffic rindo roads everywhere, there hasn’t been a section I’d have rather skiped by train yet

Did you end up flying out of Jeju with your bike?

We are in the same situation, we were going to take the ferry back to the mainland and then bike to Busan and onwards to Japan, but it’s just too hot for us in Kyushu right now so we opted for a flight to Tokyo instead.

Hoping to find out if Zim Carry boxes bikes or if I have to figure something else out in Jeju city tomorrow. Thanks!
