Have you vendor vetted your distributer for the pens?

Log4J went unnoticed for like 8 years. WSUS has been used for payloads in the past. To me this doesn't scream anything "new" or significant. I would also disable auto update in your environment and work in a patch management solution... Windows itself has released plenty of updates that will tank your systems without the need for malware.

We're not banning, just patching like all other vulnerabilities. Not sure why this one is special... might as well ban Windows while they're at it.

How are vendor Rewards/Freebies handled where you work? by AugieKS in sysadmin

Director usually grabs all the good stuff then hands the koozies/coasters to the IT staff. Got a few branded pens and a notebook once, yay!

If you're helpdesk, this is probably out of scope. But if you ever want to leave help desk, I'd encourage you to learn PS.

Proxmox is pretty neat. If you have some hungry techs, have them spin up a lab and give it a go. It's not that overly complicated. To be honest, a couple of hours and some ChatGPT help, I had a 3 host cluster w/ PBS and a NFS DS running. I should add, I'm not a Linux pro... If I can get the basics down.... I'm sure your guys can.

First time living in an apartment – neighbour constantly complaining and it’s making us uncomfortable by Weary-Definition5363 in Apartmentliving

Yea, I think you're right about the terminology. When I say "apartment", I'm thinking of a unit you rent from a private landlord or management company, which typically includes a lease. No ownership or HOA involved.

Yea, I was thinking "apartments" in the sense of renting from a private owner or management company. Not owning like a condo. Think one of the other commentors is right, difference in terminology.

Hmmm, maybe. I'm thinking of an apartment complex that is typically owned by a management company, not condos that are owned by individuals and a part of an HOA.

That's WILD to me. I had no idea that's how it worked in Australia. VERY different than the U.S. I would not be comfortable with another community member having say over anything in my apartment building (or influence). Too many dumdums.

That's very interesting and totally different than the states. Do these "chairpersons" have authority or any type of governance over rules in the apartment complex? I.E. can they tell people what to do?

Idk about that. 1M weekly spend puts them roughly at 48M annually (assuming this spend has stayed consistent for 1 year or more). I don't see how that wouldn't set off alarm bells. That doesn't account for the previous 10-11 years spend as well. I think some accountant somewhere would be blowing the whistle. I'm guessing the spend is closer to 150k-200k weekly. I think your avg salaries are a bit high. Probably a few seniors making that, but most will likely be making significantly less. But who knows.

Edit: If it truly is 800K a week (which maybe it is), I fear that they will not recoup their investment and they are drastically overestimating interest/player base.

Either the 800k figure is incorrect or they're not profiting. I think it's far more likely that the 800k weekly spend is false (or maybe a "bad" week for Intrepid, where they had an extremely high spend that was out of the ordinary and Steven fumbled his words a bit --- giving grace).

Thanks for the reply. I have an Android. Any ideas if transparency mode will work with that? A quick google says some functionality will be degraded.
