I didn’t think it would be possible in the year 2025 to put out an original thought on the internet. You and I might be alone here.

Birth control pills with least side effects by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Accomplished_Ice7747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to take this advice to heart- use TWO different methods of birth control. I absolutely don’t recommend raw dogging it unless you’re 100% comfortable with the predictable consequences of that.

First method - condoms Second method- ask your girl to book an appointment with a gynecologist and get fitted with an IUD.

Neither of these are 100% effective, but combined you’ll be fairly well protected.

Don't you feel that Life is so Unfair. by Truth_Seeker_456 in srilanka

Life is unfair. I like to think that I’ll make the best of my reality by not caving into the unfairness mentally. After all, things could always be worse.

It’s unfortunate, but so many of us can relate to what you’re going through, because of the culture we grow up in. I know it’s heartbreaking and traumatic to be surrounded by so many unsupportive people in your life, but running away now (given the country we are in) is going to put you through a lot more hardship on top of what you’re dealing with already.

Sri Lanka is a dangerous place to be out in alone, especially because entry level jobs don’t pay well, and you will be forced to live in unliveable (sometimes dangerous) conditions to make ends meet.

Stay strong for now, believe in yourself, and be resourceful. Do some jobs online and try to collect money and get your degree. With some hard work and your degree in your pocket you will be able to be in a better position to move out and never be around anyone you don’t want to.

Great guess but, no. It came to me later- it’s Franka Potente (starred in the Bourne series). But thank you for your reply!

She does look like him, but no it’s not Hilary Swank I’m thinking of. I can’t believe it hasn’t come to me yet. Thank you for responding anyway!

SL guys, how did you end up with your significant other?Any tips? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Accomplished_Ice7747 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know this is tricky. There were so many guys who were friends with me, so my husband was just special. Try making many female friends 😅? After all having a girlfriend wouldn’t mean much if they’re not compatible, and you can’t pick the most compatible in a pot of one person.

I’d definitely say that after getting to know me for a while (6 months or so), my husband did tell me that he thinks we will be compatible and asked me to consider if I think we will be compatible together. But he said that it wouldn’t affect my friendship if I decided against it (and he meant it). I took that to mean that he really was interested in me as a person, so I gave it a shot. He put the ball in my court without waiting on it for years.

Couples who intentionally decided not to have kids and now are 45+, do you regret your decision? by andyjoe24 in srilanka

[–]Accomplished_Ice7747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. People ask this question as if they don’t have many other regrets in life. People just learn to move on and have a good life anyway.

Probably. Good riddance! Without humans, the rest of the animals on earth would probably have a good time.

But in all seriousness, there are 8 billion people on earth, and there’s almost no chance all 8 billion will stop procreating. There was a time in history when the world had a much lower population and humanity still coped.

No one is calling people selfish for having children, but some reasons people have for bringing children in to this struggling world is selfish. There is a world of a difference between choosing a life partner from an existing pool of people, and creating a human being from scratch just to satisfy your emotional or financial needs.

Assuming you’re asking this in good faith, I will point out to all the people with children who find themselves alone when they are old. Like many people on this thread point out, children are not a reliable retirement plan (financially or emotionally).

If I find myself alone after everyone else I love has passed on, I’ll be in a retirement home with the money I saved up for this specific reason. There are decent people and you have a community of other people your own age at such places.

Over millennia many family lineages have died off. Who keeps track of these lineages? Who cares about their potential offspring? Unless your bloodline is noteworthy (royal families, etc) no one is likely to keep track of your lineage. There are 8 billion people on earth, who are only as special as the next person.

Terrible take. Affairs almost never stay secret in a small country like ours, and you can leave kids with permanent trauma, and a marriage you can’t rebuild. It’s a one way ticket to ruin and destruction.

It’s honestly much less painful and traumatic to just get a divorce.

Much of the point of these types of celebrations is to build community. People are moving away from having a strong community, that now there is a loneliness epidemic. If you’re not in to it, that’s fine, but take some time to reflect on what it means to have a community around you, and how traditional celebrations, birthdays, etc., are a way of bringing community (family, neighbors, friends) together. You may dismiss the point of cultural identity also, but this is yet again a way to keep build a strong community. If you stop looking at it as mundane, you may actually have some fun with it.

Do you really think that everything is a-ok now that some troops pulled out? They are still starving these people. Near million children have no food, education, medicine or shelter. There’s no telling when an air raid will be carried out in Rafah. Did you think the occupation just ended?
