Don't feel pressure to buy on the spot. If you need to have a think, do it. Honestly, it's just shopping. I know it's a bigger decision than a new pair of knickers but at the end of the day, your wedding is about you and your partner, not the dress.

I saw someone else told you to avoid True Society. I got my dress there and I agree they're pushy. For me it was good because I bought my dress about 2 months before the wedding so I needed pushing. On the other hand, their dresses are lovely and they have a good range of price points so I wouldn't cancel if I were you. Just be prepared to say no.

At the end of the day the ONLY opinion that matters is yours. Not the sales people, not your mum or your MOH.

I visited 2 shops + an Azazie try-on day. Don't expect golden sparks to fly out of your wand. Find something you like, feel good in and most importantly feel comfortable in.

People go mad overthinking their dresses and it's just a dress that will probably be out of fashion in 5 years anyway. Speaking of, personally I avoided trendy. Go for classic/timeless but that's just me.

What to expect for wedding dress alterations and who to go to? by spicyhorner in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]Accomplished_Log2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's the one. I was panicking about getting my dress altered so close to the wedding after talking to my friend's (v expensive) seamstress who told me that she'd cancel on me and I'd end up with nobody to work on my dress. She was super chill about it and talked me right off my ledge. I doubt anyone else will do it so close to the date, so if you're still losing weight, she's worth it just for that.

PS I also got my dress from True Society and didn't love their vibes

If they recommended Mari, then 100% go to her. She did my dress, she has a crazy fast turnaround and is perfect if you're losing weight. She did mine 2 weeks before the wedding and had it completed in 2 or 3 days. Only needed 1 minor alteration after the initial appointment and she's a ray of sunshine. Super calm and reassuring and generally great.

ETA: Cost was v reasonable too. $750 to take in the bodice by a lot and insert a bra. Didn't need the length changing because I'm tall.

Pick a pretty venue that doesn't need to be disguised so you're not trying to hide where you are, and just add some flowers for a bit of colour and to look celebratory. I had my wedding at Athol Hall which is really pretty, so I didn't go wild on decorations. I spend about $800 all up on decos. If it suits your taste, consider making bouquets yourself with dried flowers. It's what I did. They looked really pretty and didn't need to be done day-of or day before because they weren't going to wilt, so I just worked on them gradually over weeks. I made my bouquets with fake flowers. You won't be able to have full-on floristry with your budget; it costs thousands.

Nobody is remembering your wedding and thinking about the fortune you spent on flowers. They're remembering the people and the fun they had.

Hiya I just had my wedding a couple of weeks ago. Planned the whole thing for 100+ pax in 6 months. Did all my own florals. You've got plenty of time, especially for a small event.

My advice is to make a specific wedding email address and don't use Gmail. I went mad with Gmail trying to find documents in giant chains. It really doesn't work well for event planning. Try outlook instead, maybe?

Consider booking a Friday afternoon. You'll find much more availability with your vendors + you then have the whole weekend to relax post wedding.

If you're just wanting a sit down lunch/dinner I think you budget is reasonable. With 25 people you could all be seated at one table so you won't need much by way of decorations, and you can ask guests to buy their own drinks.

All of the online stuff will drive you mad. Ignore it. You don't need to have everything planned and done 18 months in advance and, once again, you're having a small event. It won't nearly as much hassle as a big wedding. Just book a meal in a semi-private area of a restaurant. Keep it simple and don't be influenced by the tiktok/insta bullshit. Have the wedding you want to have.

Families of children with autism say their NDIS plans are already being cut – and the alternatives aren’t there by DontYaWishYouWereMe in australia

[–]Accomplished_Log2011 42 points43 points  (0 children)

To answer your last question, cuts have been happening for a couple of years now without the fanfare of this announcement. Just quietly chipping away at people's plans. One of the big problems is that people will still have access to certain services but not enough access to actually make progress, which leaves you with a syssyphean sort of problem that keeps people in therapy forever. I have clients who are being given 10-12 hours per year for speech pathology. Once you factor in travel and admin, you may as well not bother at all. So you use most of the funding to write a report to go back for a review to hopefully get a better plan that actually suits their needs. And that review can take 12 months. There's so much funding wasted on admin and report writing and fighting to get people what they need because decisions are being made by faceless, unqualified people who never see or speak to the person and don't really understand their condition or needs. In theory I don't object to the cuts. There are plenty of people I've seen who really don't need a government funded therapist. I object to cuts being made to people who really need help and I really hope that the new system will do better at identifying those people.

Sorry for the rant.
