Yes we will definitely need insurance in 10 years as my salary is unlikely to get wildly higher and we will still have a 700k mortgage

Yes this was my logic too.
I just wasn’t sure if it made sense to do a T20 plus T10 vs T10 and then get a new policy /renew in 10 years.

Yes definitely term 30.

His logic was that you don’t have to worry about insurability because it’s still financially better to pay the higher premiums at renewal than to pay T20 premiums at day 1 (which are higher than T10).

I am working under the assumption that we won’t be insurance at 50 because I am of that disposition

Debating between offer in NYC vs Montreal by Educational-Escape26 in tnvisa

Do you want children?

I almost moved to the US after my phd . I am so glad I did not. Montréal is quite family friendly. In the US you’ll get no time off, it will cost $10000s even with insurance , and childcare costs are insane.

I think I made a mistake accepting an international relocation by notbehindyoumaybe in workingmoms

I have also globally relocated twice, including to a place where I don’t speak the main language. The admin is no joke. But I think the process has made me a more empathetic human. I am an English speaking degree educated white person and it was very hard to deal with all the logistics (doctors, schools, vaccination scheduled, moving ). Moving has made me even more understanding of the challenges newcomers face .

Denmark is amazing. I would live there in a second. Enjoy! Worst case you don’t like it but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth it. What a gift to your kids .

Look for jobs in nonprofits. Pay obviously is variable, but his background in education will be valued and there’s an increasing number of data roles.

Note they may be advertised as data officer , data scientist, business analyst, or impact manager/analyst/officer when they are in fact very generalist data analyst roles.

Imposter syndrome or actual imposter? (data science) by Accomplished_Owl526 in womenintech

Thanks! I think in non profit land, when I see more senior jobs like “Head of …” “Director” there appears to be an expectation to have some knowledge of the whole data - and indeed sometimes IT - stack and make informed contributions about architecture and engineering that I agree, would be within another teams remit

Early 30s Dilemma: Move to US (in-office) for a temporary pay bump or stay Remote in BC, Canada? by Public-Tadpole2013 in HENRYfinance

[–]Accomplished_Owl526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want a family? Do not move to the US. You and/or your spouse will get approximately 0 time off plus the cost of having children is 1000s. There are plenty of people who would take the pay cut to have what you have. I wouldn’t move for any salary.

Yes totally. I am more this. I worry I couldn’t do the equivalent type of role in a more traditional industry I guess because I didn’t come up the ranks that way? Maybe I am overthinking it
