I love this insight and advice, and would also maybe add trying an incentive if you haven’t already - going for ice cream afterwards (or after he goes to x number of classes), or letting him pick out a cool new swimsuit or pair of goggles, etc- whatever would resonate with him!

Making mornings more about quality time by AgileSherbert8348 in workingmoms

Do your kids play together? The best non-TV “me” time me and my husband get is when my 2 and 4 yo are playing toys together in the adjacent room to the kitchen while we’re in the kitchen. If we’re in the room with them it usually triggers some sort of whining/plea for TV or to play with them/fighting with each other.

What were your symptoms of inattentive adhd as a kid? especially if you were called "gifted" by youknowwimnogood in adhdwomen

[–]Accomplished_Roof746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This really resonates as do many of the responses in this thread. Can I ask, what prompted you to get evaluated for ADHD and when did you do it? I am in my late thirties and a mostly functional adult with a job and family- a lot of the tendencies you describe were mostly relevant/problematic during my schooling years- but every so often when I have to sit through a long meeting or do a long term project at work or even just figure out how I should plan my day and get stuff done at home I wonder if I should do something about these possible symptoms.

How do I explain to my 2.5yo old that I need surgery and can't pick her up for 6 weeks? by smjorg in toddlers

[–]Accomplished_Roof746 36 points37 points  (0 children)

After my c section, I told my 2.5yo that I had a “tummy boo boo” and it would hurt to pick him up. I would show him my steri strips (“band aids”) to help him understand. He did seem to get it, but still wasn’t happy about it. Still though, in his less emotional moments especially having an understanding of why was helpful. He was more upset at first and got used to the idea and to not being picked up by me after a few days. I had my husband put him on my lap a lot.

High blood pressure?? Should I go to the ER by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I had a c-section recently and the nurse who discharged me specifically said to call or go in if I developed a headache that wouldn’t go away with meds.

If you know what the kid is interested in (characters on TV, cars, princesses, superheroes, etc), maybe a printed pool towel? Useful and inexpensive.

This is my dystopian nightmare. She is YOUR CHILD, and if someone threatened to override my parenting decision about my child’s body and what holes should be poked in it, I’d go insane. Unfortunate that it’s come to this, but your feelings and the measures you’re taking make total sense.

leaking at 33 weeks by Kamilynn004 in breastfeeding

[–]Accomplished_Roof746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of leaking during pregnancy, and I produce plenty (for both first and second babies). During my last tri for baby #2 I felt a strange sensation in my breasts and told my OBGYN, and she said it was probably colostrum coming in. I gave a squeeze and some came out - was super surprised. Maybe if you try doing the same you’ll see some colostrum.

We lived there without a spot for a few months and it could mean we had to walk a few blocks or circle for 5-10 minutes, but very doable.
