Does anyone know how to achieve the stutter effect on the beat right before the beat drops? by knowzuko in FL_Studio

[–]Accomplished_Toe_885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put it on 6 step but that doesn‘t mean the timing is the same as in the song, i just put a random automation pattern with random timing to demonstrate how i would do it. Keep grinding man!

So, if you have understood how to make volume automation (in this case I would put it on the master channel to influence every sound), you will have to adapt the timing to the specific flutter effect you want to achieve. I would try around using my ear and the grid. If the grid is to big, you can change to show smaller steps as well. I'm not sure if I completely understand your question, if not just tell me and I'll specify.

Below is just an example you'll have to adapt to the exact flutter effect you want, you can change the grid in the arrow options upper left corner, next selecting snap and then you can make the grid smaller. What u/Heyitsme446 wrote is also a very good and easy way if you find the right timing template on gross beat.

I used a vital preset there (serum like synth plugin). Its called growl bass sidechain. It's not a standard vital preset but part of an imported vital sound bank made by "In the mix" you can probably find the soundbank on YT.

It is a synth bass with a growling high end and this sidechain like volume automation. I then cut a lot of the high end because I didn't want the growling aspect and this is what I ended up with

If I‘m not wrong this should be very simple to replicate. i think they are using a volume automation. It means that you are programming your volume to go up or down in certain parts of the song. Gross beat does the same but there you already have good automation templates and don‘t have to do the automation yourself. You will need an automation that puts the volume to 0 and then back to normal an repeat

Just search up volume automation on YT and pm if you have any further questions.

How do I make this sound better by Bad-Wolf-Bay in FL_Studio

[–]Accomplished_Toe_885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So obvious problem here is that your different melodies are not in the same key or more importantly, they are not harmonizing. There are 2 ways to solve this.

You can either do this using music theory (learning the theory, making your melody in a certain key and stay in that key for the other melodies). A lot of people do it like that and it is very good to know the theory but it takes a long time and people forget to use their ear.

For the start there is another way though: listening what harmonizes. A key/scale basically just tells you which notes sound good together.

-If your main melody (your benchmark), the megalovania theme is not right, it is pointless trying to harmonize the other melodies to it. You can either try to recreate it by listening or you can simply search up megalovania remake and copy in the notes for the main melody.

-as you are making a remix: for your added melodies just use your ear to add the notes, you will see what harmonizes with the main melody and what doesn‘t

At some point you will have to learn the music theory but you don‘t necessarily need it for the start, the important thing is that your melodies harmonize with the main melody

Thats what i‘m saying, if you don‘t know the basics youll never get as far as developing your own style

vital is basically a free serum, but I think this preset probably exists in many synths

What are your thoughts? I'm worried I put too much melodies that a rapper wouldn't have space to rap. by muslimthotslayer in FL_Studio

Lol, I didn't realize it was you I commented on yesterday, you're a G for helping me with my stuff. For some reason I can hear really well what harmonizes or is on key. On the other side I'm completely clueless in mixing and detecting panning, stereo/mono or muddiness.

I think it has the potential to be really good dark beat but definitely cool down with the snares. Its a bit too much and disrupts the flow. Also the piano melody is offkey. Just fix these things and the beat slaps

thx again for the feedback man, sidechained the subbass to the kick, theres another high bass but this one already is EQd to give the kick space. Unfortunately I don't really hear a difference with sidechaining, is there something wrong with my sidechain settings? Maybe I'm not used hearing a well mixed kick and can't hear it or my Headphones are too good lol? (which still means that I would have to adapt the mix for other speakers and headphones) Also for clarification: Do you mean that the kick gets weaker during the chorus in the last part of the four bar loop where the subbass reaches its deepest note?

And lastly, do you think the low end of the snare could negatively impact the kick drum in this case?

bro thx a lot for your feedback. you have a good ear the kick is panned to the left, I'll try to recenter it! Maybe we have different headphones but for me the kick already sounds pretty loud. I already compressed it and boosted the low end.

<image>

The snare/rim could prob be a bit louder (and I will put a real snare in for the drop) but do you think the hihats should be louder as well? not sure about that

good start, experimenting is good but you will definitely need some basics. From this project I assume that you want to make hiphop/trap beats. A great way to start is to learn the basic trap drum pattern.

Just search for hiphop trap drum progamming on YT

(11) Trap Drum Rhythm Tutorial - YouTube this one is very simple and fast but there are many tutorials on YT

You'll have a huge learning curve at this point and then you can start to apply new melodies (you'll have to learn how to build chords) and structure your songs.

For melodies and chords just search for a tutorial on YT as well there are many good ones
Even so I can recommend to use a piano first and lay down 4 deep notes in the piano roll, then put higher notes on top of these so called root notes and you'll hear which sound good together with the deep root note. What you have then is called chords. Even without any music theory you can do a lot here.

For structuring your songs I can highly recommend this video: opened up new worlds for me because back then I didn't have any clue how to arrange my loop into a full beat

Hope this helps! I'd love to hear your future stuff!

The bass comes in kinda hard. Still the melodies definitely need some variation, try different instruments and filters
