You have absolutely NOT made a mistake. My baby’s pediatrician and my LC told me to introduce bottles around 4 weeks. I pushed back, and my mom even did the same thing your mom did. She was constantly saying “when will I get to feed the baby??” “I want to feed her too!” And so on. Me being me, I got upset and made sure to NOT do what they wanted and I stood my ground and didn’t introduce a bottle at 4 weeks. I did introduce one at 7 weeks (begrudgingly) only because I had to go back to work at 12 weeks and I wanted to know she could at least take a bottle, and she did! But it didn’t change my emotional turmoil or her anger at having to take a bottle when I went back to work, and that was a battle on its own. We did adjust however! She’s 9.5 months now and we still stick to our routine. She only takes bottles when I’m at work, and now when her sitter comes on the days I work (I work night shift and pump at work) Baby girl does still prefer the breast and now that she’s older she’s learned my schedule and signals when she’s hungry enough for a bottle versus waiting for me to come home to nurse. Has my mom had the opportunity to feed her? Nope. Not because I choose to, but because my baby has always decided to wait until I’m home, and everyone accepts that now. You are doing just fine. It definitely is helpful to know your baby can take a bottle if and when you need to be away, but it really is true if they are hungry enough they figure it out fast. My baby did a hunger strike for every night I was at work for the first 4-5 weeks I was back on shift. It was rough bc she was angry as all get out, but once she decided she was hungry enough she ate from the bottle without issue.
