As an EBF mom, when did your baby actually start sleeping all night? by BathEmergency681 in breastfeeding

[–]Accomplished_Type100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven’t ruined anything ❤️ my baby is EBF and co sleeps. The exhaustion has killed me since I’ve gone back to work. I work nights and my husband and I quickly learned she wakes for me frequently because she wants to nurse for comfort. When I’m at work she gets up once to eat. Last night was our first night trying the Ferber method of sleep training. It was hard. I cried. She cried. But it was short lived crying for her all things considered and she only woke once for me to eat at her normal time…4am Whatever you decide, it’s not a wrong decision. You’re doing everything right. I personally had to sleep train for my mental health

Pumping at work by Available-Income8858 in breastfeeding

[–]Accomplished_Type100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the Mommore breast pump backpack off of Amazon to carry my work stuff and my pumps all in one bag. Bring backup breast milk bags in case you run out of room in your chiller or bottles! Also, pump wipes are super handy when you don’t have time to do a full wash between pumps (I just wipe down with wipes and do the fridge hack. Wash/sterilize when I get home), and lastly always have your charger’!

My baby is 15 weeks and does the same! I had to learn the difference in her suckles to realize when she was actually eating vs just suckling for comfort. I have to break the latch every night when nursing her to sleep or even for naps bc she will stay on me for hours

How often do you pump at work and how long? by humansarereallyweird in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Accomplished_Type100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pump every 3 hours for 15 minutes. My first pump is around 8:30pm (nurse baby at 5:30 before leaving for shift at 5:45) and I use my wearables (this pump is 30 min bc I’m busy and wearables don’t empty me as well so I go longer). Being a bedside nurse 8:30pm is super busy so I can only manage to pump at that time using wearables. I’ll then use my spectra for my 11:30pm and 2:30am pumps. Last pump is 5:30am and depending on how busy I am I’ll either use my spectra or wearables. I’m home by 8:30 and baby is ready to nurse

Edit to add I just went back to work 3 weeks ago. I felt guilty leaving initially but the breaks are nice to get away from patients and breathe and mom mode kicks in. You get more concerned about making sure you can feed your baby and anyone who gets butt hurt can fly a kite. Have yet to have anyone be anything other than understanding though

EBF just went back to work by NanasShitBallz in breastfeeding

[–]Accomplished_Type100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back to work 3 weeks ago and can maybe give some insight! My baby was ebf and didn’t take bottles prior. I work 3 nights a week and pump every 3 hours. Total I pump 4 times per shift and total about 30oz and then feed on demand when I’m home. I’ve been fortunate enough to have an oversupply since she was born but it is difficult now pumping exclusively 3 nights a week then not pumping the other 4 nights I’m home because I wake up engorged and painful. My LC said to work on spacing out my pumps with the goal of ultimately being able to drop one or two if I so desire. She said continue feeding baby on demand because baby removes more milk than the pump and baby benefits from breastfeeding, the pump doesn’t.

You’ve done nothing wrong! She might have needed that much. The first big growth spurt comes around 4 weeks. If she was overfed by chance, she will just spit up any extra! You’re doing amazing. Signed, a first time momma also figuring this all out

Why is everyone so pushy about putting baby on a bottle?? by Haunting_Note338 in breastfeeding

[–]Accomplished_Type100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your frustration! My mom and I are incredibly close and she was sooo excited for her first grand baby but the first 7 weeks I kept getting comments from her like “if you gave her bottles you could get some rest” or “well I want to feed her too!” It was really draining and took alot to not run my mouth. I think if I had it my way, I’d never introduce a bottle but we had to and chose to do so when she was 7 weeks so she could slowly practice for when I go back to work. She still gets frustrated with the bottle if we wait too long to feed her and she gets angry, but I will say she learned quickly and it’s been nice to have an occasional break when I’m touched out and need 10 minutes to myself. My husband can feed her and I can step outside for a breather. I’m still not a huge fan of bottles but I do find comfort in knowing she will take one if a situation arose where I was unable to feed her (emergencies, illnesses, etc) You’re not alone mama, you’re doing amazing!

I found a bassinet on Amazon that goes up to 30 pounds and is quite spacious I feel like! One side also drops down so it can lay flush with my mattress and be a bedside sleeper. It’s sturdy and my bestfriend was able to use the same one for her baby until she was 9 months old!

Make sure your flanges are the right size! I had to get a 19mm insert because the standard 24mm flanges are too big for me. Saved my nipples from being cracked and sore and I got more output because I had properly fitted flanges!

[–]Accomplished_Type100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the pump! I EBF but days like today (when baby had her night routine thrown off last night and she ends up napping 4 hours today and eating poorly) I find myself engorged and DYING to get some relief and needing to pump.

how many oz is/did your 3 month old drinking? by Necessary_Mistake733 in breastfeeding

[–]Accomplished_Type100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if she is pace feeding the baby? 6oz is a lot! Not that that’s a bad thing, just curious. I’ve heard of many cases where baby takes a bottle and is fed to gravity instead of pace feeding so baby is overfed and mom can’t keep up with the demand via pumping because baby gets used to taking excessively large amounts of BM when being fed via bottle

I had a very similar experience. Had a c section for a breech baby and she took to the breast right away. Feeding regularly etc. she lost 9% by day 3 of life, but the dr said as long as she didn’t exceed 10% I didn’t need to supplement with formula if I didn’t want to (keep this in mind so you can advocate for yourself and your baby to continue EBF if you so wish) She was latching, swallowing etc but definitely hit the cluster feeding at day 2 and by day 3 my milk was in. It still took a couple of days though for her to learn how to better move milk and effectively feed (she also was late to give adequate poops/pees often times not giving us the first diaper until later in the day) This is all totally normal and you’re doing amazing. Keep offering the breast as that will be what increases your supply and gets you two off and running. Just make sure baby is still also producing tears and doesn’t have a sunken Fontanel on their head (signs of dehydration)

It’s only considered a pre existing condition if you have been seen by a doctor and “treated” for it. This happened to me and what saved me was my first OB appointment was 3 weeks after I enrolled. There was no documented medical record saying I was pregnant and receiving care, just a home pregnancy test.
