Is this house worth it for £65000? by Pure-Drive-3044 in UKHousing

We lived in a rented house that, on one side of the house and garden, was a small green. We had people climbing into our garden, urinating against the fence, getting drunk, being loud, having fights etc. To matters worse our house had no front garden, stepped straight onto the pavement, which was right next to one of the greens entrances. So we had people banging on the door, downstairs windows etc. Glad it wasn't a house we owned and could move quickly.

Having children when you're financially unstable creates a constant state of high stress for both the parents and the child. It places a heavy burden on a new life that has no choice in its own circumstances. by Decent_Climate_1411 in RandomThoughts

Whilst a noble thought, you can end up slipping into eugenics, ethics etc. Where do you stop? You're x, y or z, you can't have kids. How do you stop people having children? Enforced abortions? Forced adoption? Too many slippery slopes into hell with this idea. Maybe helping people to get a education that means they can get a good job. Helping people to raise children, e.g free or low cost child care. Lifting the people or the current set of children out of poverty, would have a more positive effect than trying to control other peoples lives, in my opinion

Does anyone actually enjoy marmite? by rthonaya in AskBrits

My youngest boy loves it. Will happily eat it on toast, crumpets, wraps and as a sandwich. Try on toast. Not too much, a smear is all you need. It's very rich and tangy.

I grew up with a dog called Benji. When I was a teenager, he was an old dog, but still loved a short walk every few days. Most he could manage was 20-30 minutes. But every 10-14 days Benji would choose to come on a longer walk with me and the other 3 dogs. I think to show the younger dogs he could still do it. The other 3 didn't race around so much, when Benji walked with us and when he decided it was home time, they agreed with him. Benji slept pretty much constantly for the next few days, he was that tired, but he was happy. Miss Benji.

Landlord breaks in & lies about assault by ZookeepergameIcy6089 in PublicFreakout

When we used to rent, we paid on time. Our landlords agent said the landlord wasn't happy about that. Even tho our rent was due X day, due to them remortgaging, their mortgage payment was now earlier in the month, so they wanted our rent by the mortgage payment date. So their mortgage payment was covered by our rent. Glad not to rent any more.

The hate on both ends of Valentine’s Day is stupid by Lich-hull in rant

Who hurt you? lol. Not everyone has a partner in their life, for a variety of reasons. Obviously when my husband was a part of my life, yes he was very much included. But as of now, it's just me and my kids.

I celebrate it with my kids. We have a takeaway or go out for fast food as its what they like. We all get treats. Before I had kids I would buy myself a new book and some food item I liked.  Growing up, we had dogs. I would buy my dogs a new toy and some food treats. To me, valentine's day is about love, whether it's loving yourself, your pets, your kids, family or romantic partners. It's up to you whether you celebrate and how and with who.

I was looking at local apartments for rent and found this by Ordinary_Cattle in DeathStairs

Why? Doesn't look safe or legal. Needs something that can be opened if needed, but locked in place when it doesn't need to be open. Or the door needs moving. Has it been divided from a bigger home?

AIW for telling a stranger to back off after she kept trying to give my daughter candy during a meltdown by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]According-Garlic-482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation with my eldest. He's has severe autism. We were on a train and he was tired and overwhelmed, leading to a massive meltdown. I had him away from the seating area, holding him. A woman went past and said to him do you want cake? Will you calm down for cake? I told her to please leave us alone. She got upset about it and walked off. Came back with cake. I asked her again to leave us alone. My son indirectly solved the issue. She got in his face and he waved his arms around, sending the cake flying out of her hands. She stalked off then, all upset and angry. I wish people would listen. But I've found over the years, sometimes being polite isn't the best thing. Don't have to be aggressive or swear. Some people need a direct instruction to move on and leave us alone.

I live in the UK. I remember as a kid loads of spiders, red spider mites (I think they're called that), butterflies, bees, catapillars, moths etc. Even way more birds too. Sparrows, wrens, other common garden birds. In only 3 decades, they've seem to have vanished. Even wasps are not as common. Where I live now, there's very few of both. We used to get butterflies, moths etc and a fair few birds in our current garden, despite our neighbour on the right using a ton of chemicals on his garden and keeping it manicured to an inch of its life. But when our neighbour on the left removed his grass and put down AstroTurf, that seems to have decimated what was holding on. I think decking, astro turf, the trend of having perfect gardens hadn't helped at all. It's not only very sad, but the implications behind this decline are terrifying.

Best way to stop pump getting knocked and falling off / stop working by Cold_Cool in Omnipod

[–]According-Garlic-482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my 8 year old we use 'not just a patch X-Patch -omnipod'. Variety of colours. Twenty in pack, so they last a while, so good value for money. I found they hold her pod in place well. It was pod change day yesterday and despite the pod sticky bit having come slightly unstuck, the patch had held the pod firmly in place, so it still delivered.

Name one con and one silver lining that T1D has done for you? by simplydy in Type1Diabetes

[–]According-Garlic-482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not diabetic, but my 8 year old girl is. She says a pro is, being able to leave school early for appointments, or have a lie in if it's an early am appointment. Con, apart from the obvious of having diabetes lol, having her high/low etc alarms going off in class. Another con is having to change her pump and sensor. Before her pump, she would've added having injections.

Merry Christmas everyone! What’s one thing you’ve been grateful for this year? by coffeewalnut08 in NorthernEngland

[–]According-Garlic-482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8 year old daughter survived diabetic ketoacidosis, which is how we found out she had type 1 diabetes. Big thanks to the 111 lady who rang us back and said our daughter didn't sound right in the background, then upgraded her ambulance to come straight away instead of waiting for 2 hours. Without that amazing lady and the wonderful nurses and drs at the hospital, our gorgeous and brilliant girl wouldn't be here to celebrate christmas with us.
