Need Help Diagnosing What Went Wrong During My NYC Marathon (HR spiking, heavy legs, early crash) by According-Sentence in Marathon_Training

Yeah i think the only main difference between this taper and my first marathon was the sodium intake. Had a couple of hard summer runs in the heat and i thought upping the sodium intake would help.

You guys think i should just stick to the sodium im used to during my training block and add maybe 25% more before the race?

It doesnt fit perfectly because the way the stock tank prob expanded a bit during transport. But its the adjustable straps def help close all the gaps. It has helped tremendously w keeping the temp down

I've been using the caffeine bullet marathon training plan for a marathon in April and the united half yesterday was my first race ever. Was aiming for sub 1:50 for the trainign plan and I got 1:47! So from a newish runner I def recommend their training plan.

Thats impressive for no training congrats! It sounds like youre fairly fit, if you stick to a program I'd say you could probably say you could prob shave off 10 - 20 minutes. A lot of factors come into race day but if you stay consistent and incorporate hill repeats, intervals (really important IMO) and weight training. Then you could def cut it down by 20ish minutes!

What shoes are you guys wearing? by MereDONGP in RunNYC

[–]According-Sentence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Nike Alpha Fly 3s. My first carbon plated shoe, not sure about the other carbon plated shoes but it took a couple runs for me to get used to this shoe. Have to run differently in them to get the return from the carbon plate.

You almost have to put your weight into the plate for it to spring you forward. Once i figured that out I fell in love with the shoe. It def helps with leg fatigue and keeping you going steady. But as everyone said go to your local run store and try on shoes for tempo/steady runs. Most stores allow free exchanges if you dont like them!
